February 28, 201214 yr Actually I can't file IFR at all without a clock right? And to clarify the timer on the GTX327 isn't a clock?Correct, Ryan! And according to Charlotte FSDO, the GTX327 does not suffice. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

February 28, 201214 yr LOLz.... please tell me there's a story behind this ^Oh, there's a story... Fortunately it's not my story, so I've got no tales of grief and strife brought on by an over zealous FAA inspector. Sorry for the topic derailment! My mistake. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
February 28, 201214 yr Hey guys, the plane is very hard to slow down in real life, I can vouch for this. It's a Van's thing, they get alot of performance out of small engines and thus make very slippery planes. My little 9a has a 150 hp engine and will do 155 knots. With a constant speed prop, which my 6A (180hp) had......................it's very easy to slow down, even when dropping down hill. The 9's with a C/S will do it too. Flight sims have never done well with the effects of C/S, and since I don't "yet" have a final version of this one, I don't know how it does. IMO, just the look of the aluminum sheet between the ribs on the wings, sells the product for me..A few other notes. My plane had a Garmin 696 (portable, but hard mounted), which was tied to the auto-pilot & fuel computer. I used "both" a lot, for many cross country flights across the western USA. And for the person who prefers airliners, I know of many airliner pilots for fly RV's on their off time. Lot's & lots of them!L.Adamson
February 28, 201214 yr I'm not one either but am a controller. We issue time checks for example you depart uncontrolled field and you get a clearance void time... you'd check our time against your time... so I think you're right about the zulu thing.Ever consider a wrist watch. A Timex will do.RayHere is the nitty gritty for the Homebuilts.http://www.bluemountainavionics.com/pdf/IFR%20equipment.pdf'RayFebruary 25, 2011 at 12:57 pm"I presume you are putting a Garmin panel mount GPS in this plane? If that is the case, you don’t need this clock as the 430/530 series has a legal clock built in." When Pigs Fly . Ray Marshall .
February 28, 201214 yr Commercial Member It's good the clock is beign discussed. The panel clock/timer was also discussed in the early days of beta, at the time it meant re-rendering four interiors (x3 maps) and finding space on already used-up texture maps. The modeling and scripting are trivial. But re-rendering and uv'ing added up to the sort of change that really isn’t practical in beta. It’s more likely a project for an SP when there’s less pressure. The GTX327 timers (up and down) are an option for procedure turns and such, even if not certifiable. But the alternative we discussed was a 2D clock. There may be a freeware IFR clock gauge out there already for pilots to consider. This would be a very quick PANEL.CFG edit. I did want to write a BTS clock but the schedule just didn’t allow for it :)Larry -glad when you post- the drag effect of a constant speed prop was a big priority. As you say the FSX model breaks down when you try to define the negative effects of a prop - with spectacular acceleration BTW :) The RV uses a solution some other dev's have used which is a scripted drag device. The gauge watches the prop's advance ratio and applies a portional drag as req’d. This gauge is configured in configTool and is adjustable. For those who flew beta4, it could brake like an F1 car (not everyone was as impressed as me :( ). The effect has been set to a more realistic level. It’s intended to get the declaration from high speed down to pattern speed just about right. I'd love comments on refining the settings further.I think, most pilots flying an RV with a CS prop have respect for its effects on engine out performance. It reduces further a trait that isn’t exactly one of the airframe’s strengths (a bit of compromise). The prop-drag gauge includes another scalar that's used during engine out. The hope is with some tuning the sim can give pilots some impression of just how that scenario might play out.Cheers, Danny
February 28, 201214 yr I presume you are putting a Garmin panel mount GPS in this plane? If that is the case, you don’t need this clock as the 430/530 series has a legal clock built in.Doesn't count. I mean it's dandy that you found a post somewhere that says "it's legal", but FSDOs won't all agree. At least not the two I reside near.Nit-pick, I know. But we are on that topic. February 28, 201214 yr So let me elaborate a bit deeper...Let's say the GPS is VFR only, can I file /A without DME but use GPS to show distance?(as long as I'm not flying a DME approach)Ryan, do you perhaps have a link that explains the equipment codes? Thanks. Frank Olaf Sem-Jacobsen

February 28, 201214 yr Nice edit!
