Baytower RV7 released -- Any feedback?

Featured Replies

I'm tempted to get this after reading all of the positive posts. I usually fly the SF260 around the OZx Aussie airfields. I see some similarities between the two (similar top speeds, glass canopy, aerobatics, spinning, etc) and was wondering how they compare, particularly from those who own both. Thanks

I do own both the SF260 and the RV7, and while I enjoyed the SF260 alot in its day, I now prefer the Baytower offering. It has a great GPS solution (particularly with the RealityXP Garmin 530 GNS integration) and more finished feel in terms of the flight characteristics, sounds, and visuals. And as Bert said above, everything in the 'pit works.

Hey guys, the plane is very hard to slow down in real life, I can vouch for this. It's a Van's thing, they get alot of performance out of small engines and thus make very slippery planes. My little 9a has a 150 hp engine and will do 155 knots.

Thanks for the great feedback. The last months of collaborating with the beta group and partners have really been a lot of fun. That’s helped a lot, because it’s been a lot of hard work too :) My main comment, if you’re considering the RV, is to know what sort of FS users you are now; and, get to know what the real RV7 is about. If you know you’re interested in RV’s it’ll make a decision easier. In my own head the project is best for prospective-RV-builders, RV-builders, and RV-owners. It’s been a way to make choices, prototype, and think about the RV I'd like to build someday ;) Part of that's been exploring just how far FS could take a virtual RV. In a sense for me the build was real. But for sure, you should be using the RV however you like :smile:Danny

It is, in my opinion, destined to become one of the legendary FS addons....one that people will talk about and recommend for years to come

Yes, the SF260 is something I compared it to when I flew it this afternoon. Obviously the newer RV has better graphics... but the SF260 is a bit faster. The visibility from the cockpit is very similar and the FDE's are both excellent. The SF260 lacks an in-panel GPS and doesn't integrate with RXP's (speaking of that I seriously need to get the 530W argh!) They both feel pretty "snappy" and both can make good use of foot work, especially with xwinds.

Please please, someone compare the slip performance between the sf260 and this RV. Common, don't you guys like crosswinds? ;)

I did lol.... I said both make good use of foot work, especially with crosswinds...

And now all the guys praise the RV7, which renders the problem even worse
CoolP. 2 words. buy-it. :(

I also own the SF260 but when it comes to looks and options (GPS, AP, config tool) the RV-7 blows the SF260 out of the water. Imho of course. The RV has everything I need, really everything, and I love the extra options you get. The SF260 was great is its days but it's an old addon by now, really. The RV feels and looks more real to life too: the SF260 always felt like a 'abbreviated computer edition' of the real thing (I don't know how to put that in good Englsih... :( ) The RV simply feels real. The SF260 flies great too, though, don't get me wrong there.

Ok fair 'nuff, I missed that Ryan. Thanks! -G

Am I reading this right? The manual on the digiflight II system says it won't track a VOR only a GPS flight plan? Pressing mode button doesn't do anything....

Hi Ryan, You're right the Digiflight autopilot links to the GPS navigator, and not to radio nav.To put the DF-II into GPSS (GPS steer) mode you need three things.1) AP Engauged ;)2) GPS Nav target entered (flight plan or direct to target)3) CDI mode set to GPSChances are if the AP will not go into GPSS mode it's because the GNS530's CDI mode is set to VLOC.I'd say, commit that to memory ;) and make it the first thing you check before engaging GPSS.FYI using the DF autopilot with an EFIS potentially opens up new possibilities...like radio nav.The BTS RV has a steam-style Century HSI, so GPSS has a limitation.DannyThe DFII manual is a quick read...anyone that want's to master the AP should start here ;)http://www.trutrakfl...atingManual.pdfAs well, you really need to setup a CWS button for your AP to use it properly.
