March 3, 201214 yr Hello allAs much as we love and admire our NGXs, I'm wondering if many of you take time out to do any VFR flying? The reason for asking is with all the great scenery I have installed, there are times when I feel that, from 35,000ft, I'm not making the most of them - and start thinking how they would look from a lot lower down.I never really do VFR flying, so I'm not too sure what the best options are in the way of available a/c are. What I would really like is a GA equivalent of the NGX. I've noticed that Aerosoft are currently offering their Diamond DA20-100 Katana 4X with a 20% discount. This looks rather nice and seems to get some good reviews...So, I guess my question is can anyone recommend a suitable GA for an NGX pilot to fly on his days off ?Many thanksGary
March 3, 201214 yr Well the often compared as equivalent to PMDG for GA is Carenado, i noticed some of their products also have 20% on aerosofts shop.
March 3, 201214 yr I think the top "PMDG of GA" is the RealAir Turbine Duke, although as mentioned Carenado also does a very good job. I have both the RealAir Turbine Duke and the Carenado C377 Skymaster. Together they round out the hanger nicely for GA and exploring the ORBX sceneries. I also have Aerosoft's OV-10 that has both great visibility and short field performance that may be nice for exploring the smaller strips. It looks to be very good, but I still need to learn the systems on this one. Eric Szczesniak Eric Szczesniak
March 3, 201214 yr I love the new P46T from Carenado. Its fun, looks good and sounds good and I also have the RealityXP430/530 gps installed as both IFR and VFR it excels. I have the Katana as well and for VFR its spot on, I would say its got the most features in one package, being an aircraft that needs care and maintainence to run well. I love Persistant aircraft like the Katana/PMDG737NGX and all of the A2A aircraft. It means if you dont look after it will break hehe. March 4, 201214 yr The PMDG of GA is a fairly wide range of developers in my book.Real Air, A2A (if you like warbirds as GA, or their legendary Cub), Katana 4X, BayTower Vans RV7/7A... all candidates for that title. As well they all look, I wouldn't say Carenado are on PMDG's level yet. The flight models are a lot better thanks to Bernt and a couple of others with tweaks and improvements, but the functionality of some of the instruments, the Tx to say the least, leaves a little to be desired. They are good for firing up and cruising, but do not fit any where near into the bracket of the NGX or MD11...Andrew Andrew Entwistle
March 4, 201214 yr Commercial Member I actually do quite a bit of GA flying in FSX just because it's different from my usual airliner testing and stuff - my favs: Carenado Bonanza F33A and Cessna 210MRealAir Duke (both piston and turboprop)All the A2A stuffAerosoft/Marcel Felde Katana 4XI have the Reality XP GNS units and their FlightLine T and N gauges as well, which are awesome for the Carenado and RealAir stuff. March 4, 201214 yr I've taken a real liking to the Accusim P-40. Granted the only navigation tools are the two compasses but that's all you need for pure VFR. Alex Jevdic --- KORD A<380-----Love at first flight
March 5, 201214 yr I also would suggest the Eaglesoft Cirrus 22 with a well made Avydine Entegra Glascockpit usefull for VFR and IFR as well.Additional to the others i can advise the DO-27X, in realistic mode really a challange (engine, avionics and other failures,if you don't work accurate) and as an older stuff the Catalina from Aerosoft with a nice enginesound, where manuall work on flying is needed. And often i use the Lockheed Constellation flying with a mix of VOR Navigation and VFR Rules, but in this case i will/would waiting for the PMDGs secret stuff #1 :good:sorry i forgot something, the Katana from Marcel is also a Diva, if you are maintenance bi#ch... try it! March 5, 201214 yr I'm currently doing a VFR tour with my VA Thomson and really enjoying it.I recently purchased some scenery from Horizon for the UK..It's excellent stuff (IMO)Check out my gallery to see some shots of the tour. Chris Howard
March 5, 201214 yr A2A Piper Cub! The only one for a pure VFR. It has lots of windows and whiskey compass - all what's needed. You have to provide a clock and a map.. Bartłomiej Ender
March 5, 201214 yr Anything from RealAir is top notch, especially if you are into great flight dynamics. Their Duke also looks as good as she flies. Personally I fly the RealAir Decathlon (part of the Scout package) the most. While the graphics arent at say PMDG level, the flight dynamics are better, they are in fact the best in the business. Its so much fun to fly! Johan Pettersen
March 5, 201214 yr surprised I haven't seen Dreamfleet mentioned! They have a few products that have Reality-xp instruments and GPS already installed! I have their Archer, Dakota, and Baron. They are a dream to fly! ~William Genovese~
March 6, 201214 yr Commercial Member Most of the DF RXP stuff doesn't work on Win7 x64 though because all the gauges are old 16-bit ones from before RXP made their modern product line. DF's staff seems to have disappeared from the FS world many years ago. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com

I flew the NGX (600 model) VFR last night and never went above 5000 feet. That's a great way to get time hand flying and doing touch-and-go's. I was actually talking about short flights with my pilot father-in-law the other day, and he told me a story the other day about flying a 747-400 from San Francisco (KSFO) to Oakland (KOAK) for maintenance. It was a VFR flight plan and it was so short they almost didn't even raise the gear. There are some other really short VFR routes he has flown in the 757/767, such as from Los Angeles, CA to Victorville. Shane Gavin
