Is Flight Development Moving Fast Enough for You?

Featured Replies

I've completed all the missions, challenges, and aerocaches, purchased all the DLC, and have done jobs and multiplayer. Now, I'm left with what I had in previous simulators in that I pretty much have to "make up" my next adventure. Since it's release, I have thoroughly enjoyed having a 'purpose' in my flights. Whether it be hauling passengers, shooting an ILS, or practicing pinpoint landings in varying conditions, each time I started Flight I would have purpose. Now that everything is 'done', I'm left really wanting more and know more is coming, just not at a pace I would like.I'm waiting on Alaska and new planes (hopefully faster, more complex). I'm waiting on AP, AI traffic, more missions, toe brakes, more challenges, ATC, and better MP room design. Basically, I want more content, more features, more everything and it's not coming fast enough.Besides the all trumping flight model (for me, the absolute, most important advancement that Flight offers and ruins me for all existing competition), the second best thing about Flight has been the 'purpose' it presents. The challenges, missions, and jobs have given me purpose to load, play, and most importantly, buy. Now that those are all done, I want and need more. I played feverishly for the last 3 weeks and now find myself waiting for new content, really *anything* (could just be simple toe brake support) to rekindle my interest. If I were to get nothing new, I still love Flight, I'll just fall back to my occasional diversion like I did before Flight came along - once a month or so, fire it up and lose myself for a couple hours.I know Alaska will be an instant purchase, but if includes a dozen landing challenges, and handfull of missions, and repetitive jobs with the next scenery pack being months away, I think the development schedule is going to be too slow to keep my interest. Also, if Alaska is more of the same, just in a different area, I can't see myself staying on the DLC bandwagon to much longer as 6 or 7 hundred thousand square miles is plenty for me to satisfy my 'free flight' needs. I kinda thought that by now, at least the toe brake axis fix would be pushed or an AP added - ya know, some kinda update to fix something somewhere. Heck, even an update to fix the inability to purchase stuff from within Flight or a fix for corrupt installation issues for those with those problems. . .some sign of life somewhere. What are your thoughts concerning the speed of development? Maybe most of you haven't "finished" the content yet and haven't reached the point of "wanting more". . .

100% agreeNeed more different jobs or mission. In general more content.

You may need to pace yourself. Anyone who puts in a bunch of hours per day to burn through content will grow bored with the title, or wish the developers pushed content out faster. This is especially true in MMO's which I also play. Development schedules will tend to cater to the largest consumer base, and rarely cater to the elite.

I think some kind of career shoud be great. Start with few bucks and one old plane, make jobs for money, pay for fuel and repairs. Then buy better planes and finish with A380 or Dreamliner :P.

If you want a new challenge, see how many landmarks you can visit on a single biplane sightseeing tour. My record so far is 25. I had 27 on another but hit a tree on final approach and lost it. If you know where a landmark is, you can visit it and get credit. The landmarks are worth 65 points each, including the two you are directed to visit. The directed landmarks are worth 200 additional points each. If you start at dawn, it's 500 more points. 100 points for the mission. There's a 1000 point bonus for landing to let the passenger pee, -400 if you don't. My highest score is 3625, I think. Not much score, but a lot of fun.I've requested on the beta forum awards for the number of sightseeing landmarks discovered, plus a few other goodies.Hook

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

The only problem with an MMO comparison is that usually in an MMO at launch, there is alot of stuff to do. This isn't the case with Flight, 4 airplanes 1 island chain and a bunch of missions / challenges is not going to last long. I think the Flight team should have had more content ready or very close to ready before they launched.

Well I would say you are probably right in the assesment that most of us have not finished the content as of yet. I have spent a lot of time in Flight, certainly what would be considered a lot of time for me, and I have yet much ahead of me to do and accomplish regarding the missions, challenges, jobs, and aerocaches. Heck I have not even started on any of the last two as of yet...For me putting any more time into it than I have since I got it, would be way too much for me - but to each their own, I certainly recognize there are some really dedicated gamers/simmers than spend way more hours doing so, than I would even think about. I have too much life going on I guess, not even counting my job, to allow me to do so.But I would say yes, with the category you fall into , you will probably always find yourself " on the waiting end" for the next big DLC announcment/release. Hopefully you will have other games/sims that you enjoy to fullfill your need in the meantime.

Well, to make development go faster, stop sending emails to the Dev team. Time spent reading and answering emails equals less time for developing Flight.

I'm gonna go out on a very sturdy limb and assume they have a person hired specifically to deal with this.. It's not like the lead of graphics design closes 3DS Max to go read some emails and click like a few times on Facebook.

My opinion is they have to release more airplanes and more maps. Flight can die because of the lack of content.

Free mind, young attitude.

Don't some of you people have anything else to do? I am retired and I still only have a couple houres a day for FLIGHT. That is like 11:00 at night! I have been waiting on flight sims to develop for 30 years. Give it a rest!!!!!!!!!!Have a little patience, it will come.

I need ATC and AI traffic before i buy anything at all, the multiplayer is the so bad its redicoulus, actually its the worst i seen in a game for many many years. Lets hope they get their act together before its too late.

First off, since the game is only 3 weeks old, I think being upset over the pace of development is a personal problem. :)That being said, it would have been nice to have more content available at launch, the game launched pretty slim content-wise. However it is a double edged sword, if they would have launched with even 2 large content packs, people would have been even more up in arms about being "nickled and dimed". So they had to balance these factors with this business model. In the mean time, work on those badges and achievements. Rerun the missions. Get gold on all challenges. Lots of stuff to do, but yes you will have to make your own fun until the next set of stuff is out.

I am sorry but I would have to very respectfully disagree with that sentiment. They want - as they have publically stated - and they need, our feedback to help give them direction for this newborn baby of theirs. I mean really think about that - we, the flight sim community , have an opportunity to play a part in how Flight will develop into the future. And as styckx mentioned, I am confident they have the mechanisms/procedure in place to deal with the incoming feedback, that they have asked for.My guess - items that they hear the most about repeatedly from different users, have the better chance of getting implemented into Flight at some point in the future. So I would take the opposite opinion - alwasy respectfully - and encourage all who have an opinion of what they woud like to see, that is strong enough they will take the time out of their day to write a few words and send via email, to send the Flight team just what you would like to see. Make sure it is something very important to you - not little trivial things - something that makes sense - like not having toe brakes at this time - like not having Track IR support at this time - not having ATC, or AI craft at this time...

Depends on what you mean by fast enough. Before I make further investments in MSF by purchasing Alsaka or other DLC, beyond the current Hawaii offering, I need to have some assurance from MSF that it intends to add DLC in the future that will allow users to turn MSF into a full fledged sim (real world weather, ATC, AI traffic etc.). I purchased the Hawawi content and this is good enough for me to enjoy MSF in its current state, but I can't justify further investment unless I have some indication from MS that they are going o add full functionality and depth. If I had some indication that this is the direction MSF is going to take, then I might buy Alaska to play around and be willing to wait for the added functionality down the road. I understand why MSF may not have wanted to discuss "sim" type DLC at launch of Hawaii, in order to keep the message simple and attract newcommers, but I believe they now have to give some assurance regarding future support for "sim" type DLC if people are going to invest fruther in MSF. Otherwise, I already have FSX with about four or five hundred dollars worth of DLC added that I can fly. So given that the game is out only a few weeks, I don't think the speed of content release is too slow. However, MSF needs to announce its longer term intentions soon or it will be too slow with respect to providing information.
