Carenado C90 released

Featured Replies

Unlikely that this will happen. The Duke is just too good and the C90 looks to be typical Carenado - visually pleasing but buggy and broken in many little details.

I have not bought the C90 but the Jetprop and I've shelved her because of all the little issues and inaccuracies. And now the C90 is even more expensive and only 8 bucks away from a Turbine Duke that even offers engine damage simulation? I think Carenado is getting a bit optimistic here.It gets really frustrating that Carenado commits the same errors again and again in every new addon and relies on the users to fix them.

Here's a pic of our cockpit in flight at 21000'. It might be interesting to see the correlation of various engine guages there.....I apologise as I can't recall the OAT when the pic was taken. You are temp limited (ITT) though sometimes we may hit the N1 limit of 101.5 first on one engine depeending on the day.

I thought the 2000FPM figure was a bit steep! (literally ).

I echo the concern as to why a moderator has moved this topic, (which is clearly general discussion, not a specific support issue), out of the FSX Discussion forum.

I have reported the 'move' to SpiritFlyer, and have asked if he could consider moving this thread back to the FSX Discussion section.

Having owned other Carenados, I have to admit that while I appreciate the detail and realism of their aircraft, I can't help feeling that many of them lack that 'something' that makes me feel I'm flying a real aircraft. Maybe it's just me, dunno, but with the Realair Duke, I just can't stop flying her!! So to buy the C90, it would have to surpass Dukey by quite a margin, simply 'cos it's another twin.

I can entirely understand that 'they're all a bit the same' notion, which even the world's biggest Carenado fan would have to admit is something they have been guilty of on occasion. But I have to say that I find the C90 innocent of that charge, it definitely does have something about it, hard to say exactly what it is, but belting it around the circuit last night, I knew that certain something was indeed there.

As previously noted on this thread, like many, I was a huge fan of the FS9 Aeroworx B200, and have felt the lack of a decent King Air for FSX rather keenly, so I'm pleasantly surprised to find that, in spite of being the little sister, this one has actually filled the gap. I can only hope that they have plans to bang out a 200, even if that is getting a bit near airliner territory for Carenado, because I would buy that in a heartbeat if this C90 is anything to go by. The C90 is a little light on cargo capacity for my preferences, but I was nevertheless pleased to find it a slot in my Air Hauler fleet, and I can assure you that crappy FS add-ons simply don't make that cut, because as most people know, any misfortunes with aeroplanes in Air Hauler can get damn expensive, even if only virtually.

I've been able to exceed redline by using the mouse to move the throttle levers... which means there's something wrong with my throttles (Saitek).... so, I retract my concerns regarding exceeding redline.

Have you checked the null zone and sensitivity settings for your throttle axis in FSX?

Regards,

Tom

That's a fairly common issue with Saitek throttles, every one I've ever had has topped out at 99 percent (and that is quite a few over the years), so much so that I am used to giving the throttles a nudge forward in the VC when I want to firewall them LOL

Hm, my Saitek throttle is resting in a cardboard box at the moment, so I can't verify this. But have you tried to add a little bit of deadzone on the top end of the axis? I mean in the Saitek driver settings, not in FSX.

Tom

Nice work. Many people only ever visit the FSX forum and would have no idea that this unofficial Carenado one exists and the link to this thread is already sinking fast over there.

Spending my extended Easter break treating myself to some sim products (Orbx Sale especially!!!) andI have just done some testing FPS rates with her at Orbx Diamond Point, Concrete and UK2000 EGNX (East Midlands) and have drawn the following conclusion...

The C90 is great on frame rates, actually I tested it at all these airports in lite and normal versions of the "silver/blue" variant and she was great at all, averaging between 24-30fps (i am locked at 30fos in the sim) at Concrete and EGNX and losing a couple of frames at Diamond point due to me having all my texture flow, vehicle flow, people flow, cat..dog and mother in law flow activated :-)

Actually in lite mode I only gained about 2 frames when under intensive texture load when on the ground, the only difference I see between lite and normal mode is that the sliding cockpit doors are locked on the lite and on the full variant they slide open at the click of the mouse to reveal the rear, a very small drop noticed when doors open but as I said only when at a high end airport/field and even then not enough to give my i7 [email protected] and gtx480 anything to worry about.

Every time I purchase a new aircraft I hope to utter the words " oh my god, this is awesome!" (like first time in NGX VC) but on this occassion I was not initially gobsmacked by the quality of the instruments, although after a couple of hours flying I am getting to like the avidyne and also have to say the rest of the instruments and throttles/trim areas are sharp and detailed, its just the main display looks a little soulless if you know what I mean,...although I still rate this highly within my current collection.

I have tested their PA46T Malibu at the same time as the C90 for FPS and have to say the C90 is better by 4-5 frames in most places (must be all the glass instruments in the Mailibu dragging it down a tad)

So for me I would give it a 8 out of 10, and I will be using this baby between many Orbx aiports and grass strips, she is perfectly suited to hopping around the PNW

Final words would be...buy it and enjoy another progression within our fast moving hobby and look forwards to the next and the next and the next small progression...guess that is our biggest issue, we all want NGX standards of realism within every purchase we now make and I have to say Carenado are progressively getting us there!

Happy flying guys...

Rgds, Shaun

Hello guys,

one short question. On my C90 is the startup sound missing on the right engine when i engage the starter button.

When i put the condition lever to low idle the turbine sound comes up.

On the left side is everthing ok. I just reinstalled the C90 but with no success.

Can anybody confirm this issue?

thanks in advance

sorry about the question. just read about it in another thread

Few sound issues for me here.

What I do not like:

The startup sound loops too quickly, ie before you reach 12%, it starts looping around the 10% mark.

If you pull the props into reverse when you pull the condition levers to cutoff you get the reverse sound at full blast until the props stop spinning. (not a biggie this one)

I get a oscillation like someone is stepping on the rudder on final when I lower the gear. (Not an axis problem since there is zero spiking and it's working fine in everything else I use it with)

The VC is too clean, it needs some dust and nicks and scratches ala the NGX.

What I do like:

The woah woah sound when the props are out of sync. I think it's the first time someone captured this in FSX.

External model is to die for, as expected from Carenado.
