June 8, 201213 yr Thinking of supplementing my collection with one of the above widebodies. I have FSX. Which is the best?
June 8, 201213 yr Personally, I'll choose the MD-11 because it's different :) Chris Ferguson PC Specs(Rebuilt 1/11/19): i7-9700K - Non-OC'd, EVGA RTX 2080ti, G.Skillz 16GB Ram 3000mhz, EVGA SuperNOVA 1000w PSU, Cooler Master ML360R, ASRock Phantom Gaming 4 MoBo, 2x 2TB HDD, 1x 1TB Samsung EVO SSD, 1x 220GB WD SSD
June 8, 201213 yr Another vote for the MD11. Looks good, sounds good, and is good on fps. Matt Wilson
June 8, 201213 yr Both Level-D and Pmdg 747 fly great and are worth having but their cockpits are looking a bit dated graphically The md-11 still looks very good and flies well, the best buy in my opinion. It doesn't operate like a Boeing but once you learn how to use its system, you will love it. Actually I prefer it over the PMDG 737ngx! Gerard Marley
June 8, 201213 yr I have a soft spot for Level D 767 as this was my first addon back in the FS2002 days and I have upgraded every since with this addon. The others are very good but if I were you I would suggest you get two of them. The LDS767 and the MD-11. The 67 and 47 are very similar in terms of systems the FMC programming etc. while the MD11 is very a very different approach so you get a great taste of Boeing and McDonnel Douglas philosphy by getting both of these. The other advantage of these two is the 767 is commonly used on short haul flights in addition to long haul while the MD11 (pax) is more of a long haul beast. Good luck. Mark CYYZ
June 8, 201213 yr Go MD-11 if you want a different kind of challenge, as it falls into a class of itself. I don't have the Level-D but apparently it's quite good. I have the 747X and it's quite fun to fly, and holds the mystique the 747 has. If it means much to you, there are HD Mcphat paints for all 3 of them.
June 9, 201213 yr The LVD is a stand out performer in FSX. Is only $15 if you own the FS9 version and is also great on frames too. You can fly her into any payware airport anywhere to boot. The MD11 is my next choice only because it is the newest of the bunch. I also love all three so save up and buy them all.... Al Stiff
June 9, 201213 yr I think it depends on what you are looking for... Best 2d? Best VC? Newest? Best Config manager? Favorite airline or VA fly the type? The MD11 has the best VC and is unique as it isn't quite a Boeing and it isn't an Airbus. (Based upon system logic and FMC programming) If simulated "prestige" is for you, then the older 747 might be a great choice (please note that PMDG will be making a newer version of the 747) The 767 is old and it looks its age. It is a very nice simulation, but if VC looks are important I'd pass. Simulate passenger flights? Then I'd suggest the 747 then 767 (Not sure if there are too many MD11 PAX flights in the real world) Simulate frieght? MD11 then the 747. (Even tho FedEx will soon be using 767s) Long haul? 747 MD11 767 Short Haul? 767 747 (Asia) MD11 (Freight) Depends on what your criteria are. However, you are in a win-win-win situation and if you have the $$$ get all three. "I am the Master of the Fist!" -Akuma
June 9, 201213 yr MD-11 because it is pretty much every bit as good as the 767 but is newer and has a nicer VC. I wouldn't buy the 747 right now because PMDG is working on a 747 v2, so I would wait for that. Shane Gavin
June 9, 201213 yr Another vote for the MD-11. The other 2 won't disappoint though so you can't go wrong. Like many have said, buy all three :)
June 9, 201213 yr I guess I am just "old school" I only fly the LDS 767, its easy on frames, systems are still just above everyone else and yes its graphics are "long in the tooth". The original 767 was done by a real airline pilot prior to 9/11, some media outlets in the US said the terrorist use it to train, what ever. It was the best plane 10 years ago and still is now. The team is working on a 757 with improved graphics that will be ported over to the 76 also, can't wait for that. There are a ton of real world airlines that fly the 767 today. My concern with the MD11 unless you are into freighters its not used for almost no mainline airlines for passengers today. The 747 when PMDG upgrades it for the 747-8i will be just great also. One other thing, these are very complex planes, in the real world almost no pilot would be rated in all three. I know the 767 inside and out my checklist is so detailed that a friend of mine new to FSX eye's rolled back in his head as he watched me preflight it. As and old USAF aviator doing things by the book is SOP for me. Just getting something in the air cause it looks good is not how I roll.I take my 767 all over the world on real routes and SIDS/STARS which can be a real challenge. As I said I am "old school" I love flying by the book. I am looking forward to the PMDG 777, but its going to be a real challenge for me to get fully qualified on all its systems and procedures, but looking forward to that.. Someone on the forums made a statement that if you fly for real, its as long to plan, load weather, ATC activation and preflight as its to fly the bird. I love it, knowing how to anticipate weather, pick the right airport arrivals is just why I sped so much time with FSX. Cheers Bob
June 9, 201213 yr Both Level-D and Pmdg 747 fly great and are worth having but their cockpits are looking a bit dated graphically I agree with you on this in regards to the LDS-767, since it is not a 3D panel, but I never understood this statement with the 744. It is the most realistic cockpit graphically for the 744 available. All the controls are 3D. There are some systems that are not functional mostly on the main panel and are not critical to flight, but graphically it's just a level or 2 below the NGX/MD-11, but I would hardly call it dated!
