June 21, 201213 yr I noticed single engine controls only... Apparently there will be no multi-engine aircraft comming with Alaska... Most probably only for a future DLC (?) That does pretty much confirm that we aren't getting a twin. I was hoping to see the existing Throttle/Prop/Mixture controls replaced by numbered sets. I am on Steam...no update yet. Are you guys on Steam? is Steam just a bit late with this? Wedge said the Steam update will be up later this morning. Valve already has it.
June 21, 201213 yr New trims? Are the trims button-only, or can they have axis assignments? They're unassigned by default. I presume you can set them to any key-combo or joystick button you desire. The new action of the R key is a nice feature! Before, it was that "like a radio controlled plane" thing. Now, when you press the 'R' key, it swings over to look at your next waypoint/destination. Release the key, and it slews back to the previous view. It works in cockpit view, chase view, etc. This is a major nice thing to have when doing missions, especially for those who have the waypoints turned off. There's no place like this place, so this must be the place.
June 21, 201213 yr They're unassigned by default. I presume you can set them to any key-combo or joystick button you desire. But are trims now assignable to an axis control (knobs and levers), not just keys and buttons like they have been in the past? The new action of the R key is a nice feature! Release the key, and it slews back to the previous view. It works in cockpit view, chase view, etc. This is a major nice thing to have when doing missions, especially for those who have the waypoints turned off. If it works with the Destination Markers turned off, it will be very handy indeed! That would pretty much solve the "can't find the tiny airstrip," the "don't know which runway I should probably use" and the "don't know where to park" problems.
June 21, 201213 yr Thinking more about a Super Cub... It does kind of make sense for it to be bundled with the Alaska scenery. It is, of course, the iconic small bush-plane. It's about the best there is at what it does. It's also a very fun plane to fly (or so I've been told), so it can be used recreationally (sightseeing and aerocaches) or for "work" (running Jobs.) The RV-6 bundled with Hawaii is a great, fun plane to fly, but it just can't do a lot of the Jobs. Giving the default plane bundled with Alaska some limited cargo and passenger space gets people who might not buy an add-on plane (like the Maule) a taste of running transport Jobs. But it's low load capacity means they are likely to want to upgrade it to a bigger plane, like the Maule or another even larger plane that may become available separately with Alaska. Everyone wins.
June 21, 201213 yr TrackIR is working great, looking forward to revisiting Flight now that situational awareness will not be such a chore. Big thanks Microsoft Flight team. --John near KPAE
June 21, 201213 yr For me it even feels even smoother... It's probably my lover eyes.... While I do not have rudder to use the new available toe brake axis, i think this, together with TrackIR (which I also do not have...) support are great additions... Now waiting for Alsaka release :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

June 21, 201213 yr I just love how when I start updating my GFWL version of Flight, Steam starts updating the steam version of Flight. Alex Leung Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate Glider & Private Pilot via Royal Canadian Air Cadets
June 21, 201213 yr Author ... I just tried the mixed weather theme. Looks interesting. Missed that one! I also didn't pick up on the cub in the intro video. I'll have to check these out again later!
June 21, 201213 yr I hope they add a snow theme. Plus to that when its snowing, the snow actually piles. Alex Leung Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate Glider & Private Pilot via Royal Canadian Air Cadets
June 21, 201213 yr Ooh! My very bestist favourite new bit is pressing 'R' on the top down view. No more waiting for a destination to come into view on minimum zoom. Wonderful. ... and I've just ordered TrackIR 5 IT'S CHRISTMAS [shouted in a Noddy Holder voice] Blackrat
June 21, 201213 yr Yes! Yes yes yes!!! Just gave the game a try with TrackIR! Awesome!!! Freedom!!! This is great!!! Just read about that new R feature. I will give that a try now with a mission (I have markers off)! Sounds cool too! See EDIT below. One question though: I am completely confused about the toe brakes... I assigned the Saitek Combat Rudder toe brakes to the left (axis) and right (axis) brakes, but as soon as I apply them, the parking brake is set...? I get the message I have to press Shift-X to release the parking brakes, but nothing happens...! Only when I hold down BOTH toe brakes, the plane starts to move... and when I let go again, the parking brake is on again. I never ever used toe brakes before so er... maybe someone can explain me what's happening here...??? As it is now I will delete the assignements and forget all about toe brakes. (I can't really see what's so great about them anyway... but that's me being ignorant... ) EDIT If it works with the Destination Markers turned off, it will be very handy indeed! That would pretty much solve the "can't find the tiny airstrip," the "don't know which runway I should probably use" and the "don't know where to park" problems. It does! It works like a charm!!! Great! And what Blackrat100 said: it works in topdown view too! You get an awesome view on your destination, even from miles and miles away!!! How cool is that! (I just got closer to my destination and the R key clearly points to where you have to land (which end of the runway), specially very clearly visible in top down view.) Obviously the R-key has no effect in free flight. Now if we could only turn off those freakin' messages in the middle of the screen... BTW I just had a look at what happened when I use my toebrakes, but when I use them the brakes in the VC come towards me... instead of being pushed back. Seems the axis is reversed...? So when I don't use the brakes, they are applied and hence the constant 'parking brake' message... Anyone else here with Saitek Combat rudders having the same problem?
June 21, 201213 yr Only when I hold down BOTH toe brakes, the plane starts to move... and when I let go again, the parking brake is on again Hello You need to tick the reverse axis box when you assign the axis, by default they are on all the time (reversed). Just have a look at the rudder pedal animation in the cockpit to see what I mean. (I can't really see what's so great about them anyway... but that's me being ignorant... ) They really help while taxiing around
