All is not totally lost. There was a new aerocache of the day, in an interesting location, and I flew for an hour in the new deluxe Cub to get it, then land at a different airport. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, with the demise of Flight, but all in all it's not as bad as I expected.

Hello

Not really gone, just getting stronger.

Some great products about to be released for FSX including this new multiplayer environment for FSX from A2A

Thanks for the link Mad.

Will keep FSX installed and all my addons, but just don't see myself staying on board.Time for me to move on,can't handle the 2005/6 visuals any more,FSX with modern graphics and I would have been happy as a pig in.

As I stated before, have spent a long many hours trying to like XP but just not happening.

4 or 5 years time maybe there will be something to get me back flying,at least my wife is happy now lol.

Hello

Combat Pilot. FTO is the killer DLC addon that might just have saved Flight!, but once again MS lacked the vision.

Pretty much the end of flight simming for me as I think Xplane is terrible and don't really understand the nuances of prepar3d.

I'm agreeing so far that right now Prepar3D is 'just' an out of the box optimized version of FSX, it has some viable new features that are not of much interest for the FlightSim community, BUT there will be a completely overhauled engine in v2 at some point. For now I'm sticking to this. So do not fear the end of PC flight simulation, it's not here!

i know it sounds terrible, but they got what they deserved. it hurts you, yeah, hurts here too, but this is what happens when you try to make a flight SIM available to the general public, and merge it more into a video game, as opposed to a flight sim.

EDIT: All of that was pretty hostile to FSX users and I am not going to let it stand. Post another one like this one, and you won't be posting at all.

OK buddy, what you asked...

I couldn't care less.

Seriously? I suspect there may be a handful of folks maybe out of a job, that may disagree with that statement.

Flight was certainly not what many would call a complete flight sim, but it did many things very, very well!

This will be the 2nd time the ACES team was killed off, because their product was not financially viable; and this is after they were getting 100% of the cut off the DLC. For people who think that a phoenix will rise from the ashes of FLIGHT or that somehow Microsoft will go back to their "roots" and make FS11 the way it was intended, need to come to the realization that there will be no 3rd time.

I have to laugh when I read people talking about this clearing the way for FS11. The MS management would have to have a lobotomy in order to go ahead with another Flight Sim, after the trashing they got regarding Flight from the community. MS flight sims are history, period.

The major thing that if did well, which no other PC sim I ever flew did, was to fly like a real aircraft. I never had that sensation from any other PC sim, and I have flown them all.

This +100. The core of Flight is amazing. I wish I could say more, but I cant. Many many REAL WORLD pilots who fly GA aircraft said over and over that Flight nailed it. I have flown small aircraft from the right seat myself, and I think Flight nailed it. The only thing that has come close was XP10, but configuring that thing is a nightmare. Iike I said, the things the team did, they did very very well.

In a way I think it was kind of set up to fail. As it's been mentioned, it was trying to cater to a much wider audience. If Flight had geared itself up to release all 'deluxe' aircrafts from the start, I think it would have been a much greater success, and probably wouldn't have ceased active development. The pre-planning with all the world war themed aircraft wasn't the best idea. I think that's what ultimately lead to its demise. There was obviously a lot of thought put into Flight, as the potential awards included transporting an insane number of passengers and cargo, and SAR missions. Only mentioning that because it must have been planned that Flight would have years of life in it, which is odd that they made such a hasty decision to end it so quickly. I guess the number$ just weren't there.

I am very sorry for the people who developed this, i hope that they will continue to work at M$ or find alternative employment.

I guess that this is the end of the Flight Sim francise, M$ aren't going to venture here again, perhaps they will release the source or a fully featured SDK, i would have to confess that this is unlikely.

While i was never a fan, having been on the beta, i am sorry to see the francise end this way, better M$ had bowed out at FSX.
