Flight cancelled, Flight Simulator X remains strong

Featured Replies

This news will only make FSX even better and stronger. Thanks to all the devs who continue to improve FSX. I'm thrilled with my FSX!

Yes, FSX out of the box is , well, YUK!

True. New entrants to the community inspired by Flight would certainly see boxed FSX as a poor substitute. I really want them to stick around so I just hope they are aware of how far the FSX community has taken the sim in terms of visuals, flight dynamics and systems.

Still, the whole process of bringing the boxed version up to spec is fairly involved. I'm a regular gamer but FSX was my first experience of tweaking config files, installing external frame rate limiters, tweaking video card settings, overclocking CPUs, etc. Is there a post kicking around that lists the top X things to consider doing after installing Acceleration? Eg, *******' or Word Not Allowed's performance tweaks, new meshes & textures, new airports, new pay/free planes, lighting tweaks, etc. Anything we can do to ease the transition from Flight to FSX for anyone who's interested really..

I wish MS would release the code for FSX so third party devs could improve simconnect, night lighting, etc...

Okay..so where do I start with FSX? Where do I find the yuk box?

Is this really a 32bit system not 64?

How disappointed will I be with the graphics and bugs compared to Flight?

What LM should do is snap up all those newly unemployed Flight developers and put them to work on P3Dv2.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

This news has changed nothing for me... and I'm sure there's plenty others out there that will continue to use FSX for years to come.

Good riddance to Flight.

It was an arcade game, and I'm glad to see MS reevaluating their position.

I don't have high hopes for any successor coming from MS, so all we can do is wait and see.

Okay..so where do I start with FSX?

1: You start by getting your credit card handy

Is this really a 32bit system not 64?

2: Flight! was 32bit with limited expansion possibilities, FSX is 32bit with massive amounts of expansion possibilities.

Well that sounds promising!

People can knock Flight till the cows come home, but because of it I'm here looking for more.

I'm all ears point me in the right direction. Maybe someone can start a thread for us newbies wanting to start running FSX.

Flight was something you could (sort of) enjoy fresh out of the box... err internet.. The addons lacked soul...

For FSX, your enjoyment will increase over time, as you accumulate addons that are most important to you. And many of these addons are better than the retail box of FSX :)

For starters, what sort of system do you have?

Presently running Flight on a Windows 7 64bit, I7 quad core. Plenty of RAM GT540M..3GHZ max. 27in external monitor.

I plan on replacing my current desktop in the near future .

Never even downloaded that *game* anyhow. I use a simulator.

I will stay / go where ever pmdg is
