Checking in from the real airplane ;)

Yea about the flightaware aircraft type displayed...

It must be a website error on a/c type because for ERJ 145 flights for example (for Chautauqua Airlines anyway)....all the time it seems they show up as E135 but I know for a fact they are E145 aircraft so not sure whats happening there!

We're equipped with wifi and in-flight internet, which I still think is the coolest thing ever hehe.

I can imagine pilots skyping with ATC.

ATC: "Da hell you've landed on 25R when you were cleared for 26?!? Didn't you see that plane ready to taxi into position. Umad bro?!?"

Captizzle - "For teh lulz."

Co-jo: "lol."

ATC: "You guys are idiots."

---ATC has left the chat conference---

Captizzle: "pwnd"

Co-jo: "lol."

Flightaware is actually really seriously delayed - I estimate the position shown was about 150nm from where we really were. When we made the turn south on the arrival, FA still showed us as abeam Albuquerque, which wasn't right at all, we'd passed over it quite a while back.

I think all the flight tracking websites have a delay, not sure how long the delay is, but they have to have it bay FAA law. Maybe for anti-terrorism purposes, to prevent any interference from loonies on the ground with a laptop. Does LiveATC have a delay as well?

Cmon guys, I know the difference between an NG and a classic lol... N790SW was my aircraft - a verified -700 on the FAA's site. Also, look at the altitude plot - we were at FL400 up from our filed FL380 trying to get out of the continuous light chop we were in for most of the flight. Classics are limited to FL370, so there's no way we were at either 380 or 400 in a -300.

Here's a pic from right around when I posted.

Great shot ! you should add it to jetphotos.net

I think the delay is required and is at least 10+ mins on FlightAware and FlightStats.

I am not super familiar with flightaware but flightradar24 only uses the private ADS-B receivers. This means that some aircraft aren't seen on the screen. But it really is super accurate. I sometimes kill time by looking at flightradar24 and listening to liveATC, LSZH and EHAM are very good for that purpose. Does anybody know how flightaware works?

Ships are cooler that you think.

Mandfred: In a recent update Flightradar24 started to use some non ADS-B data. Mainly the same source flightaware uses, so USA suddenly got a major boost in coverage. But the non ADS-B data has a 1 minute delay and are therefore showed in orange. But it's nice to finally see some real good coverage of USA.

Not to mention most of europe and pretty much the world.

I don't trust very much, sometime they show wrong cruise altitude on RSVN airspace.

Yes LiveAtc is buffered. Not sure how long it is. It says some where on the site.

I sometimes use the LiveATC App on my iPhone when plane spotting at CLT. No noticeable delay between takeoff clearance and the pilot's reactions. Speaking of which: It also scans multiple frequencies (combines all tower sector frequencies)-- my transceiver can't do that and it cost $350 :(

This is a lot better than flightaware, minus no FPL data:

I subscribe to Airnav systems flight tracker. 60 bucks every six months for 60hrs a month. Cant beat it and it is in real time as far as I can tell....

According to the sites FAQ it's about 20 seconds give or take.

Zach, do you take that as a good thing? I find it pretty distractive that on LiveATC when you are listening to Delta XXXX landing you also hear American XXX requesting clearance.
