Carenado, what's my problem?

Featured Replies

Yesterday I pondered about a new aircraft for my hangar, I more or less felt like a little retail therapy to be honest. So off the back of reading a few opinions about the Carenado Commander, I decided to part with some dosh. Hmm, I thought after installing... something is missing. But no, everything is there. Ezdok works, LINDA works fine... sounds not too bad, but hey what is it? I don't know, I cannot fathom it at all. In fact I have the same feeling of emptyness with virtually all my Carenado planes. Now don't get me wrong, I know they are a very popular producer of aircraft and very competent, but for some reason, something is missing and I don't know what. Now, all my Realair planes and Sibwings, A2A etc, all have that 'something' but what is it. It must be something subconscious, is it the sound set, the flight dynamics? I don't know, all I know is that I have a plane which wil probably reside at the back of my hangar for quite some time. A shame... does anyone else share this strange phenomenon with me?

Its not strange Howard, RealAir are the only GA in my hanger now, I Deleted all my Carenado and everything else. I might add back the BirdDog. A2A coming GA's will be up there as are there war birds.

Carenado imo look amazing but are not "alive" like the above.

I share the same "phenomenon" as you Howard!

All I fly now are the A2A offerings, and the Real Air birds.

They certainly have that "oomph" factor, with regards to realism and flight dynamics.

Thanks fellas, I should have stayed with my original thoughts... BTW, talking of which, I see the Realair guys are producing a 172! Now that will be worth waiting for...

Nice to know! What about the Milviz products, namely the b55 and c310? They look good, and I've read god reviews (?)

I'll definitely buy the RealAir Dukes though :-)

Yeah, in my GA hangar I have Realair Duke + turbine, Realair Lancair, A2A Cub, Sibwings BirdDog, Flight 1 B2Islander and Aerosoft Katana all of which have great flight dynamics and a lot of soul IMO. Then I have the Carenado C185 and Grand Caravan which I don't fly very much and the C340, Seneca and Mentor which I've uninstalled!

+1

Another one that deleted all carenado stuff and a lot more (yes even Milviz stuff).

Only have the following installed

-Realair

-A2A stuff

-pmdg

-KatanaX

-Anthony Eaglet and Siera

-VRS superbug

..and believe me this is already a lot to keep me busy with..! so no need to have anything more as this cover basically all my different flying criteria from very smal to very large. and everything inbetween.

If I now buy a product it really have to be in the upper etchelon. Days are gone when we didnt have a huge selection and anything average was accepted because we were to glad we got something. Now that scenario is thankfully gone for ever.

Just seeing what can be done and is available for not much more then what carenado charge, you can get so much more and so much more realism.

and with people willing to listen and actually do something about a problem without the relentless begging "fix this" "fix that" "need to fix" reports, SP after SP after SP..

yes they look good. up to latest standards?, sorry afraid not.

At least Milviz B55 is up to latest standards in my opinion... Feels great to fly, best GA flight dynamics I have ever seen, at least nothing made by Carenado comes even close. Sounds are also great. Graphically it's beautiful too, not that graphical quality would be really important to me, I enjoy even some Flight 1 ancient propliners from early years of FSX as long as they have decent flight dynamics.

Yeah I have never found Carenado to have their flight dynamics anything particularly good, they just feel kind of dead to fly, lack dynamic and alive feel. However I still fly them sometimes as certain bush planes haven't been modeled by anyone else.

The FDE dev for the latest Carenado planes and the ones from Milviz is the same guy, Bernt Stolle.

Agreed on the B55, great plane. But I also love my JetProp and C337, so I guess we may end up between preferences, subjective impressions and, most of all, a lot of good planes for FSX. B)

Ah ok, I think all Carenado products I own aren't exactly the latest ones, newest ones I have are from 2010 I think.

Make sure to check for optional updates then. Bernt has released some rework of the FDE for the Bonanza, C208 and C185. All for free.

I'm with the OP on this. I have the RealAir Duke twins as well as the Lancair Legacy and they all seem to have what I can only term as "Character". This "character" is no more apparent than in the Legacy as all you need to do is start it up and "feel" it start shaking from the big engine. It also "feels" like its coming apart when the gear is being retracted. The Turbine Duke is similar though more subtle but the "feeling" is still there.

In contrast, my Carenado C90 "feels" a little antiseptic. I love flying it when I'm in the mood for flying a bus but its not a plane I get excited about like the Turbine Duke or the B60. I do love the textures of the cockpit though and the fact that everything works but it still doesn't excite me.

If you don't have it already and want a plane with lots of character, have a look at Mario Noriega's freeware P-180 at http://forum.avsim.net/topic/381369-freeware-p180/. That little beauty has ton's of character, especially since you need to watch ITT's like a hawk or it'll bite you. Best freeware turboprop on AVSIM I think B)

I also love my JetProp . B)

I'm tempted by this plane (was recently disappointed by the older PC12). Could you elaborate a littlle bit why you love it in a thread not too friendly to Carenado  (I haven't yet got any of their planes ) ? Is it frame rate friendly in spite of the glass cockpit ? What about the luminosity of the electronic display screens in a darker environment before FSX switches on the night textures ? FDE ? Thanks !
