Carenado, what's my problem?

Featured Replies

well, contrary to what everyone has said about the frames, certainly on my system they are appalling!

Well thats not good!

I have heard that using the RXP GPS units is better for the FPS in this aircraft. Are you using the standard FSX GPS units?

Hi Glenn, well, I've just installed RXP530 and yes, the frames have improved! Unsure why that is the case, but they are now showing about the same as the Realair Lancair, so a happy man. BTW I was so eager to get into the cockpit and take her for a spin, I forgot to configure the RXP!

EDIT: Actually while the frames have improved a tiny bit, they are still only about 23/24 and the duke is about 26/27! So although a nice AC it seems to be very heavy on frames... well, at least on my system.

Did you change your max texture load? (le from 1k to 4K)....

I enjoy the Carenado planes, mostly, and Flight 1's mostly, and others. But to stick with the OP, it seems to me that immersion in flight sim is to do with the complete package, not just the aircraft.

Last night I flew into Bergen (addon scenery) in FS9 with GEPro and using ASE (rain, overcast, 14 knot crosswind). I was hand flying the old Carenado Dakota (PA-235) on non-precision approach. I can tell you that my knuckles were white. I've hand flown the Piper Dakota many times in the real world in IFR so it was an interesting comparison. The experience on approach on the sim was totally immersive and not far off the real world - of course it was minus the buffetting, movement, noise, and real fear! It was pretty close to the real thing, though, and the PA-235 responded with just the right amount of kick - it's no Warrior!

Just lately, I bought the Carenado's newly created Beech F33A for FS9. This is an excellent plane which flies as well as it looks - lots of candy - wheel chocks, bags etc. And there are no less than four .pdf manuals, for those who like to delve into these things.

Sometimes it is said that the industry fails to listen to its customers. It seems to me that Carenado is listening - sometimes it responds, sometimes it doesn't. It is a business after all so compromises must be made. There is no use them making an expensive, near-perfect plane if they can't sell it at a profit.

Hi MilViz, let me say what great aircraft you have designed, it flies beautifully. My Texture Max Load is set at 1024 in the cfg. I don't run any graphics with a higher seting anywhere.

Also I noticed one thing that really increased the immersion of the C337 for me was A2A's RealFeel addon, the addition of all the little sounds during taxi, takeoff, landing and the wind has really made that plane come alive for me.

Sometimes it is hard to put my finger on what it takes, to make me feel

I am actually sitting in the cockpit, but some aircraft have it and others do not..

I still very much enjoy my favorite Carenado aircraft, so in spite of the critical opinions,

I'll stand up for them as producing some awesome aircraft - the F33, C182Q, and C337 being the ones

I fly most.

How is the FDE on the 182Q?

Did Bernt ever do a mod for this?

He is in the process of incorporating the T182T FDE into the 182Q (taking out the turbo and making some adjustments). He just sent me another tweaked update this morning which I will be testing. I'll try it out in a couple of hours (just got my rear-end kicked by his C310 and I'm tired...LOL.) I do love the 182 and have flown it for years and years despite the old IDE which is okay. (I have a few hours in the real 182 and just loved the way it handled.) The new one is much more fluid, very weighty (if you know what I mean). You get the sways like the real airplane. I'll check it out. If you PM your email to me I'll forward it along.

You mean AccuFeel right?

Yep indeed!

I love the Carenado C185 Bush. Great sound, great visuals (not HD but for me it's a plus performance-wise), great worn VC, great models (tundra-amphibian-ski). Combined with the Bernt Stolle FDE is a pleasure to fly in and out of any kind of airstrip. Add A2A AccuFeel to the mix and you are really immersed into Alaska bush flying.

The C208 Grand Caravan is another gem, again with the Bernt Stolle FDE. Great HD textures and VC. But it suffers from poor performance on my system so it doesn't get used much. Many times I prefer to fly the default fsx Caravan (also Bernt Stolle modified), especially in performance demanding areas/weather. It will have a bright future though when I upgrade my hardware. :P

I tried to like their CT210 but as nice the HD visuals are, I couldn't be thrilled by the flight dynamics, especially in approaches and landings. Something didn't feel right and it's off the hangar now.

The C337 is a plane with lots of character IMHO! Exceptional visuals with negligible impact on performance, atmospheric and detailed VC, high wing, twin engine, great visibility, great FDE. Cannot really find any flaw on this plane.

For the record, the best in my hangar are:

RealAir Legacy

RealAir Turbine Duke

Aerosoft Katana 4X

Carenado C337

Carenado C185 Bush

VRS FA-18

Dodosim 206B

Cera Bell 222B

I dont have the 182Q, but if Bernt is working on an FDE, I may consider it.

Let me know how the final version works out and then I will decide!

Thanks for the offer.

+1 - brilliant aircraft with the mods.

Same here. Such a shame. The 210 is one of the best looking aircraft I have, but the FDE (especially the over sensitive pitch) just spoils it. I was hoping Bernt was going to be able to work his magic on this one but it was not meant to be................
