Mr. Howell,

Your shot looks fantastic and I am setting up the fix as I type, but I am wondering if you got external AA to work and how? By just flipping the DX10 switch on, the in game AA looks better but it could still be refined by some more antialiasing. Your shot looks really sharp.

im using nvidiaInspector

When I switched to DX10 preview mode, I had to tick AA and select Anisotropic filtering again. However, the rotating plane on the startup menu did not exhibit any AA or AF, but these were active in the simulator itself. I use Nvidia Inspector.

As for Ultimate Traffic 2, I have added quite a few airlines via the WoAI packages, and now my large airports are suitably busy. I counted over 70 AI planes at Heathrow when I checked a while ago (that was early in the morning). I have the Daedalus textures disabled.

Thats correct, as of right now, AA and AF work in the sim, but the aircraft preview screen on the startup menu will not show them enabled. I believe there are efforts going on to fix this that are related to the DX10 shader fix.

While i do think UT2 has the nicest interface and some wonderful options, i chose My Traffic 5.4a Pro for more airlines, no default paints, and military flights. Another thing that swung my vote is MYTraffic's planes are not injected into the sim a certain time before departure like UT2 does. They stay overnight at airports if need be. Minor issue i know, but just a factor in my determination of which addon to use.

Im excited to go flying now, as my specs are CLOSE to the ops and everyone else in this thread. :) MAYBE I can get it where it needs to be again! :)

my specs:

Other then my video card, pretty close to everyone else! :) Thanks in advance! :)

Fsx doesn't request any antialiasing from the gpu for the rotating plane view hence it shouldnt really be antialiased in dx9 or dx10.

Nvidia can override this and force anti alias on to it in dx9 whereas ati cannot. Neither can force aa it in dx10 and there is no way to influence this via shaders.

For lights there are third party payware lights that work in dx10 and I posted a free workaround which is linked from my signature.

I should add, that I am trying to find a better fix for nav lights. If I cannot then I will try and write some kind of per plane converter script. For now I would treat it as an experiment for a single plane.

good to know stevejp..the AA not working in the startup menu is no big deal for me, and im really enjoying your fix nontheless. Anything you add is just more icing on this cupcake!

I do not have any default colour scheme airliners flying around, although I do have Learjets and KingAirs! I also have plenty of military aircraft in my FSX skies, because I painstakingly added them myself

Don't take my comments as criticism, Steve. The fact that you have got this far is a real achievement. It would be interesting to know why I did not get an OOM error in my "heavy duty" test with DX10, because that is an extremely important discovery for me.

you sir have more patience than i do...i figured that id pay for a package to do it for me

Am I the only one that doesn't have the option to choose DX10 preview in the graphics page?

I used to have it, but its gone. And I'm really curious to try this new fix. I'd hate to have to re-install everything just to try this.

I re-installed SP2 on the suggestion that it was the culprit, to no avail.

What to do now?

Tom

Sorry about the underlining......

Are you running WinXP? If so that is your problem, as XP does not support DX10!

Edit: Just noticed you are using Vista, which should work! I'm on Vista as well!!

You can try forcing it by putting the following line in the FSX.CFG file in the Graphics section.

D3D10=1

Thanks

Eemer, can you run dxdiag and post the output?

Also there are some other old threads from people with a similar issue e.g

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/247564-directx-10-preview-has-gone-missing/

I haven't looked at them all but the one above was related to some 3d drivers, looking back through them might throw up an idea.

My question is will this fix work for payware aircraft such as PMDG , quality wings, etc because reading in some manual it stated to leave DirectX 10 preview mode out of the picture? Will this fix be an issue for any other payware ?

None of the nav lights work on my Flight1 Cessna Citation Mustang, but the plane flies just fine. However, I do not use any of the IFR systems like autopilot, ILS etc, so I do not know if these are OK.

Systems should be fine. Any issues should be graphical in nature.
