I never had Acceleration before, but yet had the DX10 preview up until now when this new topic came up. Thats when I realized, hey something is missing here.

Oops, I don't have acceleration installed. I thought that DX10 preview was all there was to it, and you don't need acceleration for that. Am I mistaken?

I tried this fix and am mostly happy with the results on my mediocre system. I no longer have any stuttering or any artifacts when panning around planes on external views and the textures seem much smoother. I haven't seen much of a FPS increase though but at least its smoother. My system still doesn't like going anywhere near KSEA or KPAE though but its better than it was before.

My system is substantially more stable than before which is huge as it means I can finish a flight in the -NGX or CX 2.0 without worrying about the system crashing.

I'm not sure if running DX10 Preview has anything to do with that but if it does, great work!!

i have run 2 hour flights in dx10 and no crashes with many instances of panning around different planes, and airport switching, no crashes. and i find that fsx in dx10 mode doesnt mind if you alt-tab out to the desktop to check on a map or fscommander. fsx in dx9 mode would throw a fit if i did something like that

Well I caught this thread and said what the heck I'll give 'er a go. So I clicked on DX10 Preview for the very first time since owning FSX just to see what it looks like without any fixes. And it look HORRIBLE! Ok, so I d/l the batch file with all the DX10 fixes. Fired up FSX again and it still looked HORRIBLE!

Running the Trike at dusk - default flight. The water looked gastly, the runways and distance all shimmered worst than FS2004. The light hitting the Trike's guidewires all sparkled like twinkling stars. So did all the auto AI traffic headlights. I went over to Phoenix to check out the new KPHX. The tarmac was all a solid gray color.

So I take it there is more tweaking to do than just running the fixes? Ha, I sure hope so!

Quite so B)

FSX is actually enjoyable now that I don't need worry so much about stability.

I built a new computer this last May. Installed Windows 7. Currently I am running DX11. Not to ask a stupid question, but does the DX10 shader fix apply to me? Currently, my system is running silky smooth and I am happy with the visuals.

If you have dx11 then you should be able to run dx10. everyone will need the shader fix if you want to run in dx10 preview, because this fixes a texture issue on runways and taxiways and some other graphical issues

I have been suffering from OOM/CTD/screen freeze problems when flying in extremely detailed areas (lots of models/autogen/AI planes) in DX9 mode. However, I was amazed when I tried my standard "stress test" in DX10 Preview mode. Not a single problem! :o I have tried it twice more, and still no crashes. Does DX10 have vastly superior memory management routines?

I'm going to try this. I wonder if Steve would be able to have a crack at fixing the much maligned issue of cloud draw orders in FSX - the problem that causes a cloud behind another to be rendered through the cloud in front of it. Looks ghastly when you are flying through a thick layer of grey and can see the layer above bleeding through. If he could fix this it would make FSX so much better.

I think there are only two of us who cannot benefit from this tweak for some reason. Is there anything we can do to join the happy bandwagon ?

Thanks

Well, I wouldn't say that DX10 Preview mode is perfect at the moment, but it is the only way that I can fly around London with absolutely everything enabled, and at maximum detail. That alone is sufficient for me to accept the few minor disadvantages when flying around that part of the UK. It should also be useful when flying over ES Shawbury Fields at maximum scenery complexity and autogen density, because that was another area where I was suffering problems.

I wouldn't say I'm 100% happy as I still can't go anywhere near Seattle with my Orbx scenery running in anything other than my Turbine Duke and not get low FPS but at least the artifacts I used to see are gone and I haven't had anymore CTD's which is blooming fantastic.
