September 20, 201213 yr I don't know if this should be posted on the "Hardware & Operating Systems Discussions", but in any case Please read this, and take appropriate action if necessary. “Microsoft is investigating public reports of a vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8, and Internet Explorer 9. Internet Explorer 10 is not affected. Microsoft is aware of targeted attacks that attempt to exploit this vulnerability. Applying the Microsoft Fix it solution, "Prevent Memory Corruption via ExecCommand in Internet Explorer," prevents the exploitation of this issue. See the Suggested Actions section of this advisory for more information.” Microsoft: Microsoft Security Advisory (2757760) Microsoft Releases Security Advisory 2757760 Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit v3.0 Symantec: New Internet Explorer Zero-Day Vulnerability Exploited in the Wild Cheers. September 20, 201213 yr Author And people wonder why I use Firefox... So am I, Yes, many experts are advising to use Firefox or Google Chrome, at least for the meantime. Ramón. Time, is the one thing no one can buy.
September 20, 201213 yr MS and another security issue? Just tell me it isn't so, can't be true can it? The sarcasm isn't working is it. Nice that they tell the world including the low life types first then worry about a fix! FIREFOX in use here, BTW are we not still required by MS to use IE to get our OS updates, Kind of like shooting yourself in the foot to see if the gun is still loaded. Mel
September 20, 201213 yr And people wonder why I use Firefox... I don't wonder why you use Firefox. No, not at all.
September 21, 201213 yr And people wonder why I use Firefox... Firefox is nice, but over the years, they have started to copy Chrome so that is why I don't use them. (Not like copying is bad, :LMAO: , but the way the back button and the home button which are essential for me are arranged is kinda unpleasing) i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
September 21, 201213 yr Wouldn't surprise me if they are still fixing holes in Windows 95 and ME :LMAO:
September 21, 201213 yr but the way the back button and the home button which are essential for me are arranged is kinda unpleasing Hello You do realise you can move them ?
September 21, 201213 yr I don't know that Firefox & Chrome (both of which I use) are any less intrinsically vulnerable than IE to these attacks: most likely IE is targeted by cyber-rogues because, being installed along with Windows, it's the default browser for naive internet users. Owners of Apple machines often boast about how their systems are more 'secure' than PCs, but that's mostly because they're a small minority in the broader home computer user-base, and the malware creators can't be bothered.
September 21, 201213 yr Hello You do realise you can move them ? Yeah I know, but then it looks ugly and adds a unnecessary extra line to the toolbar. I don't like it. i7-6700K @ 4.5 GHz, 16 GB DDR4-2400 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB
September 21, 201213 yr I used IE forever until a couple of weeks ago and something broke my ability to use Flash to view videos. I went through all kinds of routines to get it to work, uninstalls, reinstalls, reboots, error reports, etc... and never could. So I loaded Chrome and haven't had any problems. Based on this topic I guess my timing was good. Thank you. September 21, 201213 yr I am very close to putting out a position statement from AVSIM to our users, especially after the last couple of days where we have found IE9 to be a big problem using the AVSIM forums. That position would be; use any of the other browsers, just don't use IE here. I too have migrated away from IE. I hesitated to use any of the others because the fonts did not look quite right. I finally figured out that the "clear text" function and tuning the video out put via the MS control panel took care of the problem. Now, FF, Safari, Chrome, and Opera all have reasonable font quality and smoothing. Obviously, I need to use IE to check out the site from time to time, but that's it. Chrome is my 1st choice followe by Firefox.

It's amazing how many e-retailers are advising their customers to do the same or to accept extra charges for the cost of making a website usable to IE users Chris Miller
September 21, 201213 yr Commercial Member This is one of the reasons why I stopped using IE long time ago, it's full of security holes and is a bad browser just every way. Currently I use Chrome as my main browser as I have found it to be reliable and fast, then as secondary browsers I sometimes use Mozilla and Opera.
