Flight Environment X...?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I already have REX-Essential and I stumbled upon this product today in the Flight1 marketplace.

Does anyone around here have it? How does it compare to REX? Performance? Quality?

I think it's pretty old and no longer supported.

Randy is right, at least about the old part. It really was a great product when it first came out. It has been replaced by REX and ActiveSky. It was a forerunner in its day...which really wasn't all that long ago. :(

Best for cloud textures, nothing else. Has no build-in WX Engine

It's a bit more than just clouds, it's also sky, water and water animation, actually everything except weather, and fully customizable

It's there, it works, it never complains and doesn't want out too often. What more can you ask?? It is old but continues to work well.

I know its a bit more than that. What I said was: 'Best for clouds'. Since Ben already has REX-E its all he would need for should he consider buying it.

However, I wouldn't.

It's my favorite cloud/water texture program.

Yes it's originally older than the others, so what? Flight1 took over from the MIA developers, did some front end work. It's also a about style and marketing. FEX is highly customizable and appears to me to be softer and more realistic in most cases than the super hyper sharp edged REX. Having said that, most seem to love REX but I have seen no compelling reason to switch and if you have REX probably no compelling reason to switch either.

Have it, REX and AS2012. Always preferred FEX over REX for quality and performance. After AS2012, I decided that AS2012 was the best of the three.

One feature of FEX, which as far as I know is unique with these types of packages, is the ability to design your own clouds.

So you can choose not only resolution which is pretty standard but also definition, this is from memory I don't have the product installed at the moment.

Very happy with FEX here. Never needed to consider replacing it.

+1 Same here. Have gone back to using FEX, with Nick Needhams weather theme. Using with Opus weather engine is truly superb. Even better when winds aloft is implemented.

I just got FEX last night after doing a bit of research as I was considering getting REX for textures. I already use AS2012 and didn't really want to shell out on another weather program.

It's an amazing add-on even though it's been around for a while, really feel as though it's breathed new life into my sim. I was using the AS2012 textures before and the ones you get with FEX are a lot nicer especially all the custom ones you can get.
