October 7, 201213 yr Hi, i recently foundd some great addon scenery that i would love to buy but as you all know you need a good comp to have good scenery. So i was wandering which is the better graphics card for fsx as i currently has a i5 core processor and its asus with ddr3 16gb ram and a gtx550 ti if any of those details help. Thanks, Connor Jones

October 7, 201213 yr I would advise against going to gtx560... from what you have.... but that's just me... save your money and get at least GTX580 i run EVGA-GTX570HD with 4GB RAM if i am not mistaken and i am very happy with performance, but i kinda wish i gotten the 580 but i will not upgrade to 580 if anything i would choose a leap up all the way to 680. I also have i5 CPU the 2500K and wish i gotten the i7-2600K well maybe if i sell the i5 then i get the i7, but to upgrade nah... yet this CPU upgrade prabobally would do more good then video card upgrade you talking about... I just think you will not be happy going from 550 to 560.... and over the years i played it i would have to vote for Nvidia over ATI if the main game you play is FSX, not to say that ATi cant run FSX but just soemthing about nvidia and FS they always on all my systems ever built since FS2002 worked better less problems etc... Hope this helps Andy Andy Home Cockpit B737
October 7, 201213 yr Go to 660 or 660ti - best FSX cards for the money. Is that a good upgrade from the 470GTX ?
October 7, 201213 yr Is that a good upgrade from the 470GTX ? Yes... You will see a significant increase in performance in clouds and SGSS. (with the 660Ti) To the OP: Get a GTX660 not a 560.
October 8, 201213 yr I got a 660 Ti......this card : http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/GTX660_TIDC2O2GD5/ I built a new PC and upgraded from an XFX 5850 that I had for three years. I can tell you the 660 Ti blows away kmy old card! I am getting 50 FPS in the Level D with clear weather...all my sliders at 75% and no fsx.cfg tweaks yet. I still need to install Nvidia Inspector and my PMDG 737NGX. If you can wait until Black Friday when the prices will fall. The 660 (Non- Ti) is also very good, but slightly less performance but it is $70 to $80 cheaper than a 660 Ti. I was considering a 670 but I didn't want to spend $400 on a GPU.
October 11, 201213 yr Don't see a reason to get 5xx card. They are lower value for the price compared to 6xx. I think a GTX 660Ti will give you a good performance boost. GTX 670 or 680 aren't much better than a GTX 660Ti (in FSX), so a 660Ti should be a great and fairly cheap choice. Arjen Vandervelde
October 11, 201213 yr Go for the Nvidia 680, this allows you to expand to a triple screen/projector on one video card via Nvidia surround if you want to later on down the line. Soarbywire - Avionics Engineering
October 11, 201213 yr I would love to read/see someone with some conclusive proof about the benefits of a 660ti over a 580... October 11, 201213 yr I would love to read/see someone with some conclusive proof about the benefits of a 660ti over a 580... ++. Fair and unbiased. One thing for sure, I will not run out and buy a 660ti because its supposedly better than a GTX 580. IMO, the GTX 580 is as good as its going to get FOR FSX (for the money) and there will be nouthing better, past, present or future! Specially for those whom don't care about 3 monitors.
October 11, 201213 yr I would love to read/see someone with some conclusive proof about the benefits of a 660ti over a 580... 1. Why in the world would anyone go and buy a card that runs much hotter, louder, is larger, sucks more power, and is slower? 2.Benchmarks are right HERE directly against the 580... IMO, the GTX 580 is as good as its going to get FOR FSX (for the money) and there will be nouthing better, past, present or future! The 580 is not a good bang for buck anymore.. They have them on Newegg Refurbished for $350. The 660Ti is now dropping below $300. Go to the GPUMark11 thread and you can clearly see that the new Kepler cards are significantly faster than the 580 with SGSS. - I am baffled by the fact that so many users still seem to think that the 580 is still king of the hill in the GPU world. Here is a chart made by SAAB340 in regard to GFLOPS and performance with SGSS. Let the numbers speak for themselves. -The GTX580 pushes out about 1,700 GFLOPS. -The GTX660Ti pushes out about 2,200 GFLOPS... -The 680 does about 3,000GFLOPS. - Nearly twice that of the 580...
