October 22, 201213 yr I sense alot of unease in the FS9 croud. ...oh, and I agree about the beer B) i9 9900k - 32 gb RAM @ 3200mhz - 2070 RTX 8gb
October 22, 201213 yr Any poll such as this one is likly to be distorted anyway because we do not know how many of those people who visit Avsim took part in the poll and we do not know the views of those who never visit Avsim. Distorted? Okay. There are over 94,000 registered users in the AVSIM Forums. Only Registered users can vote. At last glance from me, there were a total of 500 some votes taken (the number is publicly visible at the top of the poll). That means that 0.0053 percent of our user base has taken the poll as of my last glance at it. How can less than one half of one percent of the member base "distort" the poll? And yes, if they don't visit AVSIM, or are not registered, they cannot take the poll. The point of the poll is to take the measure of those that DO take it. Not those that haven't.
October 23, 201213 yr This flies in the face of conventional wisdom wherein FS9 (having greater frame rates) is good for complicated tubeliners flying high whereas the low and slow benefit from FSX's higher ground/scenery definition and, generally, lower frame rates. Yep, that's how I do it. FS9 for flying tubes into dense cities, FSX for bush/GA flying. Though for the poll I ticked FS9, 'cause I've been flying it a lot more, and I still do use it for sometimes for GA even. For Alaska and Orbx areas though, gotta be FSX.

OK then, but it's too small a sample for the results to be taken as meaningful and truly representative. David

October 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member Can't argue that, but I suspect that's as good as it is going to get. Hey Tom, I can't remember because it's been such a long time since I became a member, but does the registration process ask what is your sim of choice? Perhaps if this question is mandatory during the registration process, you can get a better sample of what people are using. And make it multiple choice, so that we can account for those that use more then one. Regards, Efrain RuizLiveDISPATCH @ http://www.livedispatch.org (CLOSED) ☹️

October 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member Who's to say what determines an accurate pole? Current political poles for the current US elections are usually less than 1,000 people. That is to represent a country of 300 milllion? Ha! That's it Tom. You just want to get AVSIM in the pollster band-wagon what with so many polls out these days . We need another poll! On a tad more serious side, I would have had FS2004 as a separate entry and 'FS2002 and Earlier' a lump some selection. But really who cares.... it's just to see what is trending right now in our hobby. You must run another one after P3D v2.0 is released. Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11), EVGA 1300W PSUNetgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displaysFull array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.
October 23, 201213 yr Man dating? Pole dancing? Whew, and this is just a flightsim forum! Actually, I'd be interested to know if there are any new users of FS9? Many (myself included) came with FS9 from its beginnings, and beyond. I looked at FSX and others, and came back, although I'd still dabble in them for interest. To be honest, if you were 15 or so, and wanted to get into flight simulation, why would you not buy the apparent "latest and best"? Can one even buy FS2004 new any more? We probably should promote FS9.5 outside of the hobby if it is to survive...
October 23, 201213 yr ....dare mention FS 2004 on a FSX Forum, and all the new Flight Simmers will assume that your are 150 years old, wrinkled, grey-haired, and wear woolly jumpers and bedroom slippers....and are partially deaf, and short-sighted, with an occasional cough... :Cuppa: ...! Just about fits me!... :Big Grin: ...! Paul...Guess!...>>>FS 2004... ...! An accurate Pole is a person from an Eastern Bloc country who is deft at mathematics? ..or a very straight length of wood supporting a flag? .... ...!
October 23, 201213 yr I made a quick search at Amazon (Germany) and yes, it is possible to buy a new copy of FS2004. Even the american (english) metal box edition. Some minutes ago, I couldn't resist and bought it (I own the german version already, in a stock plastic box). Myself, I used FS2002 until FSX was out; although: I was not 15, but 30 then. Then I looked at FS2004 and FSX and decided for FS2004, after I had heard that FSX would hardly run on my PC at this times - and especially after I read Calclassic's propliner tutorial. After years, my PC may now run FSX smoothly, but I decided to stay with FS2004, at least when I heard that there will no development of MSFS after FSX. Now I have v 9.3 or 9.4 I think. H. Edit: of course I polled. Harald Geyer Gründer der Messerschmitt Freunde Dresden v. V.
October 24, 201213 yr If we have a Polish woman joining AVSIM, why not have a Pole Man-Date? We could even have a compulsory Czech-list to make sure that nobody tries to land without their pants errr I mean gear down. Sorry - I'll stop now. Must have been something in the water I just drank....
October 24, 201213 yr I bought a new backup copy of FS9 a few weeks ago from Amazon U.S., along with FSX Gold (six years after release, guess I'm a little late). FS9 came in a proper plastic game case, unlike the cardboard version I originally bought for $22 in 2005. A glance at Amazon tonight shows they're still selling the version in the retro tin for $14. Old FS9 will continue to have a lot of entertainment value for years to come, poll or no poll. John G.
