Just purchased Opus weather engine and tested it with a flight to Innsbruck.

This will now replace AS2012.

Very nice, do you use textures from AS here? I guess you mean that you will change the WX to be using Opus? I will do the same tonight, just bought Opus and it will replace WX in REX Essential, I will keep the REXE textures though ;-)

I did the same last night, finally broke down and bought my first program for weather, Opus, all I can say is that I have been missing out. I have always used REX for textures, and due to the issues with REX WX, default real world weather from FSX. Wow is all I can say.

Now that is how weather should look! I shall be buying this when i have built a new rig.

Opus speaks for itself. When they add winds aloft and finish the engine, it will truly be heaven.

There are two types of Flight Simmers. Those who are currently using OPUS, and those who will.

You guys are making it extremely difficult to stay with REX. Incredible pics. Thanks for posting

Two questions if someone would be kind enough...

If there are no winds aloft what happens now for us tube-liner jockeys when we are way up yonder; calm air at all times?

Second, does it download VatSim weather data for flying online?

Thanks in advance.

There are winds aloft. I don't remember now how Opus determines what they are, but you do have winds aloft. I believe it's based on what the prevailing wind direction/speeds usually are for a given area. So they're not real or current but an average of what is usually in that area. But, don't quote me on that. It's been a long time since I remember reading how they do it for now. Again, this will be going away soon as they will be working on true winds aloft very soon.

Jamie,

You don't have to get rid of REX. Keep it for the textures. You're going to want to use Opus for the weather engine. It's as good as I've seen and I own REX and AS2012.

I use Rex textures, they work well for me, and yes I will be changing from Activesky to Opus :-).

I had a cruise wind 40 degrees left of the nose at about 61kts.

Thanks for the comments

As already mentioned, there are winds aloft, just not accurate yet.
