Heads Up to AS2012 Users

Featured Replies

A new "beta" version of SP2 has been released to the public. I've been flying with it and have to say it introduces some nifty features. My favorite of which is how overcast can be handled now and the new direct wind control (DWC) mode feature that lowers visibilty based on the cloud layer you're in. DWC has been Active Sky's strong point, and this new visibilty reduction in clouds makes for some true IMC experience. I'm still playing around with it, but this patch is a winner so far.

AS2012 has offered the most realistic turbulence and wind effects, in my opinion. Now flying through clouds (IMC) feels much better.

Downloaded it. Gonna read up a bit and give it a go.

Isn't this the same SP2 build released a week ago, nothing new on the front for now, the build is still 4696!

I'm leary of beta's, but I have found AS2012 to be a fantastic weather program for FSX.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

I've observed that on my first flight after the installation of SP2. I like this feature, too. It looks really real when flying in clouds.

Does anybody know if AS2012 free to get for Active Sky Evolution users?

I have been using ASE with REX textures for long time, but as OPUSFSX is still lacking proper turbulence effects and such I wonder if I should give AS2012 a go.

Nope, AS2012 is not free to ASE users.

You can update from ASE to AS2012, at the moment I think they have a reduced price sale, check out their website, maybe it is still being offered.

I got latest Rex+ Overdrive upgrade, but was getting heavy stutters during weather update, was not that bad for me in previous versions of Rex.

So tried the As2012 SP2, very nice, since then rex is back to textures only.. Yet to try as2012 sp2 textures. Original as2012 textures was a joke compared to rex.

A big improvement i must say. Now the overcast is overcast. Back to AS2012 as weather engine. But i'll keep Opus for the cameras.

OMG, I will be glad when Weather Wars is over! I'm losing my mind. AS2012 is the only one I don't own yet and all these updates keep pulling me in.

Weather Wars..... Good stuff and a good way to put it.

Yeah bought it, those new features added in SP2 make it worth buying.

Though I still like OPUSFSX very much, but I don't want to use its camera (and without it I have no turbulence effect) and without proper turbulence & winds aloft airliner flights become a bit too boring. I think I will continue using AS2012 until OPUS adds proper turbulence and winds aloft to their product.

Have to disagree with you to an extent. Some of the AS2012 cumulous clouds are fantastic. ENB Series amplifies that.

Of course this argument is totally subjective, but I feel the cloud textures are worth mentioning.

I installed the AS2012sp beta to my system. A couple of days ago I flew into JFK when the weather was really poor in NYC. The new beta had me in solid clouds and a true overcast very impressive and immersive. Yesterday I flew from JFK to LAX and again the weather textures were spot on going across the US. AS's sp beta is a real winner with their new textures.
