December 4, 201213 yr I vote that DCS does a civilian flight sim.. I think that would be just AMAZING! Ciao!
December 4, 201213 yr I have faith something will come along. Might take longer than we'd like but it will come. Randy Swofford
December 4, 201213 yr I think there are always exceptions. By your formulation, for instance, Xplane is nothing short of a miracle.......... ^_^ On another point, I think the ROF engine is very neglected, and that they are slowly building a little empire while the world is otherwise occupied. I never fully agreed with Aerosofts (technical) reasoning for rejecting them as a base for a possible Aerosoft sim effort. I always wondered if it might have been more of a control issue. What were the reasons? I can imagine ROF neglects the curvature of the earth for example, which is fine for a WWI sim, but not nice for people that want to do long haul properly. Not something you can just trivially fix. John-Alan Pascoe
December 4, 201213 yr Why the hell Cascade Game Foundry makes a scuba diving simulator ? Nobody is interested about scuba diving, and nobody will buy this ... They are talented in simulation, these guys made FSX and FS2004, why are they making a scuba diving simulator instead of a Train simulator or Flight Simulator knowing that these ones are more interesting ??? This is so sad ..

It turns out that a round earth is not-so-common (yet another under-appreciated accomplishment of FSX) hard enough that some privately expected MSFlight to be on a flat earth. Also things like 100 mile visibility, which they deemed very very important. I always thought that as new as ROF was at the time, that was the moment to start looking into the round earth issue before things became set in stone. And of course, Outerra does both of those with no problem, but like the hypothetical "every-sim" previously mentioned, it needs expansion and optimization in other areas to be suitable. If an "every-sim" ever does appear though, I suspect it will be on an Outerra-type engine. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... December 4, 201213 yr Why the hell Cascade Game Foundry makes a scuba diving simulator ? Nobody is interested about scuba diving, and nobody will buy this ... Probably taking them longer to develop the world then they thought it would, so the Scuba is just buying time as that would be much smaller areas to model. Also they maybe looking to release something to start making money to be able to continue as a company. It does sound boring to me but I would probably buy it just to support them (and something new to play around with for a day or two). Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

December 4, 201213 yr CGF still shows Trains in their marketing so I don't think they are getting away from their original concept of a 3D sandbox world. Scuba diving and underwater was also part of their original concept so it looks like they are just launching that side of things first. The Train images they have shown look fantastic. They were never really commited to Flight Sim as they have said they wanted to build a 3D World to be used for various different things. Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Round earth is set in stone as soon as you specify how you're going to encode and render your scenery. If you don't at least build in the option for round earth right from the start you're going to have to completely rebuild that, right down to the level of the pieces of paper that describe how your scenery database works. December 5, 201213 yr They maybe going to make a Flight sim and train sim, but knowing that they are developping scuba diving simulator since 3 years and it isn't even finished, we will not have a CGF Flight Sim before 2017-2020.

ROF had not even been released at the time I was talking about, but you are right it was likely too late even then to do some sort of conversion/translation. I read once about the military "augmenting" some old simulation systems from flat to round world to more realistically depict target visibility due to earth curvature, but it was probably a beast. December 5, 201213 yr Infinite Scuba's not even finished. From the official website . I looked at that a few days ago and decided to reserve any judgement. Factors not now apparent might make it groundbreaking......... maybe. But the screenshots on the site are notably bland, and based on their stated partners the program seems aimed pretty squarely at the educational space... Or perhaps guilty pleasure cult status. December 5, 201213 yr I'm left with a vital question. Is there something like a scuba sim enthusiast?
December 5, 201213 yr Commercial Member I'm gonna build a pool in my backyard and set it up as a scuba simulator. Regards, Efrain RuizLiveDISPATCH @ http://www.livedispatch.org (CLOSED) ☹️
