December 3, 201213 yr Moderator And didn't some ex-Aces people actually band together for a while before dropping completely from sight? Yeah I think it was something like the Cascade Game Foundry. I wonder what ever happened with that? I guess they didnt have the funding they needef to make it. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 3, 201213 yr It's sad that all the bright heads don't put their heads together and work on a new sim, but creating a new sim is a monumental task. Add to the equation a grumpy and egosentric customer base (us) complaining about everything under the sun, why would anyone bother. Just look at how the ACES guys were treated in these forums after creating one of the most amazing pieces of software in history. Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!
December 3, 201213 yr Yeah that was them. They had some blurbs about all sorts of weird simulation ideas then just disappeared. Randy Swofford

Just look at how the ACES guys were treated in these forums after creating one of the most amazing pieces of software in history. I was reading something on the forum recently about how the fans made fsx (no thanks to the Poopie-heads from Microsoft) and I just rolled my eyes and moved on to the next post. Comforting communal fictions, and I bump into them fairly often, usually followed by an "Amen brother" Bleah. FS11 will be out next month. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... December 3, 201213 yr  to the over 6 million bucks for Star Citizen. And they've only had a 2 million target. That was a refreshing exception on a market which looks like being bound to casual games and publishers not taking any risks. Well, the few indie games form up a nice island of hope though. I'd still say that there are modern alternatives and possible successors of FSX (not speaking about P3D) available, rendering no need for re-inventing the wheel. But, for whatever reason, the flight sim gaming area seems as boring as it is nerdy to outsiders. Try a you next party and state openly that you are a flight sim enthusiast. The guy with the World of Warcraft addiction will easily win that fight. Just saying.
December 3, 201213 yr Try a you next party and state openly that you are a flight sim enthusiast. The guy with the World of Warcraft addiction will easily win that fight. Just saying. Barriers to entry to this hobby are way too high. We have climbed a mountain of lore, trial and error, and aviation techno-babble and then (effectively) locked the door behind us with a sign saying "RTFM!" The shrinking number of super-specialized users can often sound like this to noobs. No, people probably wont be beating down the door until we can make it a bit more enticing than that! And that means catering to users at all knowledge levels (Like Microsoft did) not just to real pilot wannabes. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... December 3, 201213 yr I totally lol'ed to that video. That must be how my gf sees me when I explain.. anything on the sim. Even the double click on the exe. So, here's the warning. Whatever you do, if it includes simming, make sure that you have a second hobby or people will forget about you. Or think you are working on Picard's Enterprise. But an open question remains if all those other games including flying, may it be at war times or in a more arcade style, not already serve the purpose of helping folks to come to the sim flying in general. Agreed, if they then start with FSX, a whole bunch of details, config files, trouble on modern OS and 'us' will hit them. I wonder which is the worst. ^_^
December 3, 201213 yr Isnt this why LM has jumped into the fray? Because their market base is not just X FSX simmers learning on the academic or development, but they have an expanded base where the money is... Professional training, Corporate, and business. I think that is the intention. Make FSX much better to the sim we would all want and expect but marketed to a broad range. Having developers from FSX addons and all their own fans and buyers is just a side bonus. Thats my humble opinion and 2c worth anyhow. December 3, 201213 yr Microsoft covered an even broader market than LM does. I'm pretty sure thy scrapped it because ROI was dissapointing. The problem is that we've reached a point where the level of fidelity in computer games cost more to develop than there are customers to buy it - in the case of flight sims. December 3, 201213 yr Moderator Cascade Game Foundryhas announced new ghame - Infinite Scuba. This is a Gerry, you and I may well have been among the only three people here at AVSIM who even noticed that announcement... Since the principles at Cascade Game Foundry were heavily invested in the still-born Train Sim 2, I'm flabbergasted that they'd choose "scuba diving" for their first game release. Fr.
