December 3, 201213 yr I still don't own any ORBX products, so with their release of FTX England, I figured I'd go ahead and finally get some of their products. I'm going to get England, of course, but I want to get either a North American region or airport from them, too. However, there are a ton of airports, so I'm at a complete loss as to what to get. I'll probably be flying a twin-engine GA aircraft a lot, and I like to do city flying, so what would be the best airport to get? And how much are the airports in the FTX regions upgraded? Thanks, boeing247 P.S. When is FTX Northern California supposed to come out? -Bram Osterhout

Thanks, boeing247 P.S. When is FTX Northern California supposed to come out? I'm w/ you on FTX Nor Cal. Pretty hard to beat the PNW for scenery since you're in GA twins you can have a ball w/ their default airports, which I guess is default FSX airports, but the scenery is very nice. If you can get out of the city, KJAC is fabulous in the CRM region. I ordered England on a DVD which has been shipped--can't wait! December 3, 201213 yr Believe me, only getting one of their area addons already enables a ton of locations to explore. So if you get their latest England release, you may find more than enough places to head the twin engine to. Concerning the overall level of upgraded airports. Well, they've always had reworked default airports since releasing NA PNW. With that one being an older title, you can expect proper layouts, elevations and added details like houses, cars and lights. Their NZ releases also featured the People Flow elements (moving people), so maybe those later get added to older addons. I guess England also features those. But, back to NA, what's their best? Difficult question. I guess PNW still is the most dense and detailed one as the other regions offered more remote airports. On the addon airports, I'd head for the bigger ones as they may offer locations for small GA and jet planes. The small ones, with names you've never heard, are the icing on the cake but may feature a limited selection of planes actually being able to land there. Well, if you are flying one of those agriculture planes, those should be great though. Or take things like a Cessna Caravan. For those planes, any of the Orbx airports should be fine. So perhaps start with PNW and see in which direction you later wish to expand. For instance, going up to Alaska makes sense and PAKT may be a really nice spot to land smaller and bigger planes. Also check their freeware offerings, e.g. enhancing Portland. Ozx also offers some freeware within the NA regions, mainly PNW.
December 3, 201213 yr Hands down its PNW. Plenty of airports to fly to from GA flying. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
December 3, 201213 yr Actually you will get along fine with freeware stuff, especially in their US parts. If I should name any individual airports it would be KORS. You'll get an island with the airport. For the price of two orbx airports you'll get Tongass Fjords which is vfr heaven and fully compatible with orbx.
December 3, 201213 yr My vote is also for PNW; highest concentration of airports with beautiful terrain. Since you say you want to fly the bigger GA aircraft, I'd suggest Anacortes, Skagit or Jefferson County. These are a bit bigger than the others, making it easier to land bigger airports over there. Of these three, my favorite would be Anacortes. December 3, 201213 yr but I want to get either a North American region or airport from them Seems no one read that 'either' part. ^_^ Do NOT buy an airport WITHOUT a region!!! Those airports are designed to fit into their regions! They may look odd in default scenery and they won't fit in! So if you really want to do 'either' definitely go for a region!!! I would also advice to get PNW: it's the best NA region by far imho and specially when you like city flying. All airports are enhanced so they are fine enough for me. In fact, I own about 12 addon airports from Orbx for PNW but I don't have them installed at all...!!! The thing is: they look great but they make all other airports look less nice... I noticed that I only flew between those addon airports because I got used to that specific quality. So when I reinstalled FSX some time ago I decided to NOT install any of those addon airports anymore and I LOVE it. I now fly everywhere I want to fly. ^_^ I also bought England but I will NOT buy any addon airports for it. BTW The airports in England are even more enhanced then those in PNW. (Another reason for not buying addon airports anymore is 1. they are becoming more and more heavy on resources and 2. they are made by different teams and they clearly have different quality standards, which I don't like. Apart from that I think they cost too much. So I am done with Orbx addon airports. ^_^ Their regions can't be beat however and I have been flying above Orbx scenery ONLY for years now!)
December 3, 201213 yr I second that advice on PNW. You can fly over cities (ORBX freeware Portland cityscape offers a great detail), flat terrain as well as into mountains and across the sea to the San Juan Islands. And another plus is, it's well covered with sceneries, both pay- and freeware ones. Just check out the ORBX freeware sites. I also recommend not buying only an airport without the surrounding ORBX area, because you'll lose some great features, such as 3D grass, and the scenery doesn't blend in that well in the default FSX. Regards, Flo Florian
December 3, 201213 yr Commercial Member Don't forget that KSFF Felts Field is just around the corner for NRM and Bella Coola is coming soon for PFJ. If you want the latest & greatest it won't be happening in the PNW. Jim

Bram, Get ready to experience FSXI. You can download the PNW demo and see for yourself how wonderful FSX will be with ORBX regions. I have all the regions and most (not all) of the add-on airports. I love lying from airport to airport and since some airports do reduce performance I've had to compromise and lower the AG and the control panel settings. Each airport has a control panel setting so that you can reduce the options and increase performance. I can recommend PNW and 3 airports that I know will make you a believer: 1S2, 3WS, and KORS. You need the PNW region, but there are many free airports and even a Portland City that can be downloaded. Enjoy! Jose MSFS
December 3, 201213 yr I'd wait for england to be sorted out before buying it. There a few problems with it. The most recent (to my knowledge) is that it is blocking out autogen scenery in Germany.........?......strange. http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/59578-problems-after-installing-orbx-uk/ Thought id mention it as i personally havnt seen anything about it mentioned here. Unable to check the ftx forum, but i bet there isnt alot mentioned about it there... Regards Luke M
December 3, 201213 yr yes it is being mentioned at the orbox forum theres 2 pages now so hopefully it should have a update on the fix soon I7-8700k,Corsair h1101 cooler ,Asus Strix Gaming Intel Z370 S11 motherboard, Corsair 32gb ramDD4,, gtx 1080ti Card, RM850 power supply Peter kelberg
December 3, 201213 yr In a manner of speaking, I'm going to take you to task here, but in the happiest, best possible way. Why do you want others to decide what is right for you?? That's kind of like asking mom & dad to arrange your marriage and career path. Study the reading material at Orbx as to the features the scenery products offer. Check out the screenshots (plan on spending a long time just taking them in--they're wonderful). Then think about what type of flying you really do. There's a big difference between GA flying in a King Air and in a Cessna 310 from 1965. Be assured that whatever Orbx products you buy, you will be simply stunned by the scenery. Even the Orbx default airports are interesting. Forget flying at some flight level. This is scenery for 1000-2000 ft agl. Have fun!! December 7, 201213 yr Author Thanks for all the replies--I suppose this is what happens when you admit to not owning any ORBX products. All right, it sounds like the general consensus is PNW and Orcas Island to go along with it. What are the thoughts then on Jackson Hole (KJAC) or Concrete Municipal? -Bram Osterhout
