January 22, 201313 yr I find that your autogen never needs to go past the "Normal" setting. With the Autogen Complexity setting, setting that to 'max' is fine, and combined with the Normal setting, and the "Extremely Dense" setting of the "autogen complexity" will still offer you very realistic simming, with fewer erros and (for me) atleast, no OOM's whatsoever.
January 22, 201313 yr I use one cfg for low&slow and a different one for fast&complex. That is how FSX was intended to be used and why you can save different settings. For the last type of flying I turn down setting one or two notches from max, for low&slow I crank almost everything to maximum, even increasing tree density to 6000. January 22, 201313 yr My system is tuned in the way that my VAS never exceeds 3.8. It took me days of testing and tweaking. As long as I keep my LOD to 5.5 max and autogen to dense I can fly the 737NGX or CS767 with all addon scenery without hitting an OOM. Word Not Allowed pointed me to the very big VAS hit by the value of LOD. Eg : The difference between 4.5 and 5.0 is enormeous on a 3 monitor view setup. As also between 5.0 and 5.5 . January 23, 201313 yr Commercial Member Take it to the edge, baby!!! LOL nice, Derek! It's a flock of geese away from an OOM! lol Regards, Efrain RuizLiveDISPATCH @ http://www.livedispatch.org (CLOSED) ☹️
January 23, 201313 yr Take it to the edge, baby!!! ROFL!!! Haha even if there was no VAS limit I'd say from those 7 FPS that those settings are a lost cause =P. Looks awesome though! And this why FSX causes me so much frustration. On the one hand it could have been so much more but...well, it's like the Titanic.

January 23, 201313 yr +1 christopher I read it a few times , got a headache and gave up  steve ps I'm sure i went to a Laurel and Hardy museum in Ulverston a few years ago REX SKYFORCE 3D steve howlett
January 23, 201313 yr Yep, there is a Laurel and Hardy museum in Ulverston. I live a few hundred yards away from it. Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
January 23, 201313 yr Can you please explain what you mean here? I mean, there is no need to have your "Autogen Density" setting to be any higher than "Normal". If you turn up your "Autogen Complexity" to "Ultra High", it will still offer realism without the FPS loss, and the constant OOM's.
January 23, 201313 yr I agree, I usually leave "Autogen Density" at Dense, but normal is more than adequate. January 23, 201313 yr A couple of related questions here if I may....? 1) When flying in large photo scenery areas, like SoCal or the like, then do any of the settings have any performance impact? I know LOD does, but what about the others? 2) What's the application I need to measure the VAS in use while FSX is running? Thanks Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
January 23, 201313 yr 1) When flying in large photo scenery areas, like SoCal or the like, then do any of the settings have any performance impact? I know LOD does, but what about the others? Which SoCal scenery do you use? If it's MegasceneryX then it includes autogen, so the autgen settings will still make a difference. If it's something like Blue Sky that's pure photo, then autogen settings are irrelevant. 2) What's the application I need to measure the VAS in use while FSX is running? I use Process Explorer. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx Scott
January 23, 201313 yr LOL nice, Derek! It's a flock of geese away from an OOM! lol LOL, funny and sad cause it can be true. I know I've mentioned this before in another thread but think its worth mentioning again.. FSUIPC has a feature where it starts sounding off a Windows chime every 10 sec or so when the VAS level gets very near crash point. And I'm using the free version of it so very nice of them to put that in there. Comes in handy if you need to Save quickly.
