AES 2.26 is released

Wasnt disagreeing with you. Just with the poster that claimed it was "Not a classy move". I would say giving GEX for free at all their airports is pretty classy and shows they are not "forcing" people to buy their software.

Oh, my bad. I think giving GSX free with their products is quite classy and nice of them, but I'd just prefer if they'd work with Oliver to also let their newer airports have AES.

It does bother me sometimes when a nice big payware airport doesn't have moving jetways unless you have AES. Maybe I should invest in AES to have alongside GSX

Best move I made. Its a whole lot better to know that when I go to an airport, I'm going to have ground services courtesy of GSX as well as moving jetways (if provided) through AES. Now, if only there were wing walkers!

I wish I was on my FSX PC to try out the new de-icing effects and that isn't happening for another month so I'd really appreciate it if someone could throw a screenshot of the new effects AES has to offer.

Did you two used to be married?? :shok:

Yeah too bad FSDT decided to ditch AES to force people to buy their competing product. Not a classy move IMO.

Considering that FSDT GSX works for free on any of their FSDT sceneries, I fail to see how this isn't classy. You only have to pay the one time fee if you want it to work on virtually eveyr airport in the FSX world.

You can stop posting your worthless assumptions here anytime now.

Do you have an endless supply of money to spend on AES "Credits"?

Do you have an endless supply of money to spend on AES "Credits"?

I don't mind paying for AES credits, Oliver has to put work in to each release to get every stand customised for how the aircraft is pushed back in real life, that takes time, and for me it's certainly worth the €15 every once in a while...

I'd like to think of GSX being like FSX, great for covering many airports across the globe in a pretty accurate way, but then AES is like add-on airports, modelled exactly as it's done at that airport in real life, but you have to pay for every airport, you don't get all of them in one quick pack for €35.

You make it sounds as if GSX worked only in a "default" or "automatic" mode, which is not the case. This is just how it works on an unknown airport.

But on the supported airports, GSX can be entirely customized to them, with custom vehicle placement, custom docking systems, custom pushback with custom labels more informative than just "left/right", custom airport gates regrouping so you can select a gate in a more logical way than what the AFCAD naming rules allows.

On top of that, most of these customization options are even accessible to users, so you can fix an unsupported scenery yourself.

So, GSX really has 3 different modes of operations:

1) Default mode, when an airport is entirely unknown. This is how GSX works when there's no information about an airport other than its AFCAD.

2) Custom mode, for airports included with GSX, which right now are all the FSDT sceneries + Flightbeam KSFO and KPHX. This mode is entirely FREE to use, on top of that.

3) User-customization mode, which is another thing that only GSX allows. User customization also means that a 3rd party scenery developer can just include a GSX scenery .INI file together with the scenery .BGLs in the scenery folder, and GSX will use it. The developer can use the 3d editor provided with GSX, and create a customized GSX airport in a couple of hours, without having to ask anything to us, paying anything and offering their users more value. Clever developers like UK2000 are already doing that...

I would also like to remind you that GSX has hundreds of different liveries for ground operators that are very easily customizable both in appearance and in location strategies, it supports visible luggage with human characters handling them, it supports visible ULD pallets appropriate for the airplane, in multiple liveries too, it has a realistic looking pushback that moves your airplane wheels too so, your parallel with the FSX default airports it's a bit out of place, the more correct comparison would be between similar products, one paying more attention to some features and another to other features.

Considering that FSDT GSX works for free on any of their FSDT sceneries, I fail to see how this isn't classy. You only have to pay the one time fee if you want it to work on virtually eveyr airport in the FSX world.

It's purposely sabotaging a competitor to get more people to use your product. It's like giving out credit cards to people and if they use them at your stores they get a 10% discount. So of course people will start shopping at your store more. Predatory behavior was never part of the FS community. For years developers worked together, stopped working on an airplane if another developer was working on it, etc.

Why not give users a choice?

The only thing needed from our side to add AES support to an airport, is to provide Mr. Pabst with Gmax/Max source files for the jetways.

As already explained on our forum when people asked about this, jetways models in CYVR are the same as in KLAX, which means there wasn't any need for our help to add AES support for CYVR, it can be added anytime without our intervention.

The real issue is, with CYVR already providing animated jetways and docking systems as standard, and with GSX being entirely free to use there, how many people would want to pay extra credits just to have slightly better jetways, when the same amount of credits spent on another airport, would gain animated jetways in place of static ones, and (for those that don't have GSX already) the whole ground services ?

I would pay to have AES jetways at CYVR because as it stands now when the gate comes up to say the NGX thr wheels and support structure sink into the ground. You don't get that with AES.

I think it's a bit harsh to label FSDT's decision to no longer make their products AES-ready as "sabotage" or "predatory." They didn't intentionally insert code designed to crash AES into their sceneries...they just don't make the extra effort to make it AES-ready since they provide many of the same capabilities in the GSX functionality included in the scenery. I do wish they would, though, as they have in the past.

Edit: Actually, it appears that FSDT's CYVR can be AESed if Oliver decides to.

That said, I have AES activated on every add-on for which it's available (which includes every FSDT scenery except CYVR). A proper moving jetway that doesn't sink into the ground, customized pushbacks already done for every parking position in the AFCAD, and follow-me vehicles that don't "break dance" at taxiway intersections are worth a couple bucks to me. I also have the full version of GSX for non-AES airports and for cargo ops at some AESed add-ons as well.

A proper moving jetway that doesn't sink into the ground

For our airports, we will eventually replace the jetways someday, of course keeping GSX free to use there.

customized pushbacks already done for every parking position in the AFCAD

As I've said, GSX on internally supported does custom pushback too, if needed.

and follow-me vehicles that don't "break dance" at taxiway intersections

You make it sound as if the follow-me vehicle always does that, which surely is not the case.

Something like this seems like an AFCAD problem like to overlapping nodes, and it would be best if you reported this problem on our forum, indicating were this happens, since GSX already has lots of code to defends itself against errors in AFCAD files, but we can't possibly test every scenery out there so, even a single report (because GSX is global) could improve the behavior maybe at hundreds other places that have similar issues.

This new version changed the sounds of the gate movements and also changed the De-Icing spray to look like real de-icing agent ( green ).
