[RESOLVED] Avsim slow?

Featured Replies

It was fine before the recent software update and its not the first time this has happened after an update.

There are currently only 806 users on the site, there have been many more than this before without issue.

AVSIM was slow for me before and after the update ... the reason I think it's user demand -- not just quantity of users but what those users doing, downloading files, uploading files, images, or some server bot extracting ALL AVSIM files from their library ... hard to say but my vote is high traffic demands. Given that it seems to make no difference in what time of day (in terms of performance) I access AVSIM, it could indeed be 24/7 server BOTs trying to extract as much as they can.

Data is golden.

Extremely, super frustrating slow. I guess something is wrong somewhere.

Very slow for me too.

I have a 50mb connection and 99% of websites are lightning fast.

I am showing execution times of less than 3 seconds guys. With over 800 folks on the site, that's not bad. Have you done a ping and tracert?

EDIT: and there is a way that we can cut that number down.. Don't allow Guests. Last time we thought about that, we were accused of being #####. So, anyone have about $40K so we can go buy new hardware?

17 seconds from when the browser shows waiting for avsim till the main page loads.. Ping or no ping  it's 17 seconds..

I just got a server execution time of 1.3 seconds. That  is not the same as a PING response. If you have a 17 second ping response, you have an issue between you and AVSIM. I just did a ping and here are my results were 4 millseconds low and 56 milliseconds high.

I was just reading a forum and clicked to go back To the main page and real time was 21 seconds. Hmm. I guess I will check with my I provider.

You should do a TRACERT. That will show the total time between hops between your PC and AVSIM. With the TRACERT you can immediately pin down where the delays are between you and AVSIM's servers. With response times of 17 seconds +, I can assure you that that is not AVSIM's response time. If it were, our systems would be broke and getting our maximum attention. That is not the case.

EDIT: Also, if you are posting messages and not seeing a response, or it is timing out entirely, you are most likely running Internet Explorer.

For some reason, the speed is back to normal for me AND I can now log in via my PC in addition to Tapatalk (which for some reason was never slow today).

Nothing has changed in the last 24 hours with the system, software or our back end systems. Execution time responding to your post; 1.9 seconds.

I never really notice things slow at AVSIM. I mostly surf on an Acer Aspire which is junk in the first place. So if anything my machine is a bottleneck and I am a very cheap man to replace it (got this one for free)

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Just tried to refresh this page: total time until whole page loaded - 18 seconds.

Tried with tracert, the biggest delay is at conncetion between DE-CIX Frankfurt IXP server in Frankfurt, Germany, and www.avsim.com server it Herndon, Virginia

Tom,

It is pretty slow

With the greatest respect, this thread confirms what I have been experiencing when browsing the Avsim forum

for some considerable time. It is slow and the continual tweaking/adding extra options for the vocal small minority

I believe contributes to the current problem.

May I respectfully ask that you visit a couple of sites mentioned below and using those fora, please note members/guests

logged on. I get instantaneous access to the forums and sub-forums with no lag as many are experiencing here on Avsim :

Windows 7 forum  -  http://www.sevenforums.com/ Currently Active Users: 13069 (245 members and 12824 guests)

                                 usually approx ave users 17000

FlightSim.com    - http://www.flightsim.com/ - There are currently 2222 users online. 872 members and 1350 guests

I repeat, the access I get when visiting those forums and their sub-forums is in my opinion super quick.

I can if required supply other examples.

I also wonder if the software selected to run the forum is not entirely suited for the purpose.

Respectfully

Here's my TRACERT showing the last 4 hops to our COLO site:

  6    17 ms    22 ms    16 ms  be-99-cr01.ashburn.va.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.95.21]

  7    15 ms    30 ms    17 ms  be-11-pe04.ashburn.va.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.84.206]

  8    96 ms    26 ms    14 ms  as3491.ashburn.va.ibone.comcast.net [75.149.228.78]

  9    47 ms    21 ms    20 ms  www.avsim.com [205.252.249.58]

So, the message is that you have some serious lags on your way to AVSIM. We are certainly not contributing significantly to your 18 second response time.
