I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Well Tom, you can  experiment all you want, but SOMETHING is slowing down the response of your site since the last few days when you made some changes by a temporary shutdown. It takes me 10 seconds or more to change pages here or to log in (auto), and it doesn't do that for other sites. So may I suggest that you get on the ball and find out WHAT is causing the slowdown and get it fixed. I will not insult you by making suggestions on how to do that (and anyway I have no idea how to do it....).

Henri

Edit: OK I just saved this message  and it took only 5 seconds for it to appear.

Very slow for a while even before the last update

I also wonder if the software selected to run the forum is not entirely suited for the purpose.

Well, it has been for more than 10 years, so I will leave it to your assessment to say otherwise. Please tell me how it is not suited for purpose.

As for user counts, take a look at our user counts now. There is a point to be made here and if you ask the right questions of the appropriate forum owners, you might be surprised (if they are honest).

Our user count is based upon the guests and users who have been active on our forums for the previous 15 minutes. If you look at the user count now, it is based upon the users who have been active in the last 10 hours. Get my drift? Yes, forum owners can set that window to whatever they like, but does a ten hour window reflect reality? No, of course not. As forum operators to set their windows to 15 minutes like we do, and then report back here with the results.

Everything now seems back to normal. Must have been heavy traffic earlier on in the evening. Now able to load pages pretty quickly.

My examples showed current users online.

I also notice at the bottom of the main forum which I use everytime to have all forums marked as read that

we now have (users online in the last 600minutes - 3820). Which is it? The figure you used 800 in post 19 of this thread

I believe were the users currently accessing the forums at Avsim.

No member who has posted in this thread has criticised you personally. Merely pointed out that Avsim forum is very slow to slow.

I agree that you should not keep putting your hand in your pockets to fund the purchase of more hardware. There are enough

members of Avsim that would donate to that end I am sure.

While I appreciate that Avsim is your baby, there are times to step back and accept help from those willing to contribute.

You will suffer no loss of face life will go on with everyone the much happier.

Best regards

Over the past hour I been on here at home on my Acer laptop and my FSX machine. Now I just got to work on the PC we have here. It works fine for me on all those machines.

I think people on here have a wee case of FPS-itus that is spilling over to the performance of AVSIM.....You've got a fever, and the only cure, is more performance

Cheers Guys

Not as slow as before but till slow, IE10 or Firefox with same result, other site are fast.

Ping: 5 ms

Download: 24.09 Mb/s

Latency: 5 ms

Edit: it's getting better....the pages are loading faster, will see later.

My examples showed current users online.

And my point is that you do not know that. I set the time for ours to 600 minutes, up from 15. You see the number count now, as opposed to the 800 or so BEFORE I opened the window. Are your reading my posts?

I guess you missed this one from Henri5; "So may I suggest that you get on the ball and find out WHAT is causing the slowdown and get it fixed."... Nice.

I just want to conclude this discussion, for me anyway, by saying that at the end of the day this site is flying fast and furious for the hardware we can afford and provide as a FREE website with large bandwidth bills.  Please keep that in mind when you percieve the site is running slow. I suggest that before anyone states that the site is "slow", that they quantify it with a PING and TRACERT and post the results in a SUPPORT ticket request. Without that, the use of the word "slow" is meaningless.

Sorry Tom, I did not know what other word to use beside "slow" to express what I was experiencing.

The site is faster as I am typing, don't know if you did something at your end to make it faster but I can see a difference compare to before.

If nothing was done at your end I'll ask brother Bill if he can come to my house and exorcise what took control of my PC...I just wanted to make sure that I was not the only one experiencing a less performing as before wonderful site like yours (talk to me about sucking up).

You all be safe flying.

As I said earlier Alain, we have not changed anything with regard to hardware, software or back end systems in over 24 hours. The last thing done was to update TapaTalk and that was long before that. I get real cynical with some of these claims and that is why I posted the message above about reporting "slow" performance accompanied with TRACERT and PING test results appended to the TROUBLE ticket. We are not going to respond to forums posts like this one again and will only respond to the trouble ticket system.

"Slow" can mean a lot of different things, and as we have seen, once again, in this topic, "slow" has been a result of net delays, number of folks on the system, node bottlenecks, etc. Believe me... If WE (the AVSIM staff) were seeing slow downs not attributable to load, we would be on it in a heart beat.

Try using fiddler, a simply web proxy, where it will show you how long every image, js, css is taking.  It was slow for me yesterday, but I didn't think of Fiddler.
