Is this good or bad?

I ask because Avsim is still slower than most sites i visit. I also conclude with the comments that this only happened recently.

The other day when something was being changed, all the adverts plastered everywhere on every page was gone. Load times for me at that time were extreamly fast.

Not that i give a rats &@($* how long it takes to load...but the adds could be less intrusive and in your face on every page, and just remain on front pages.

And anyway...What the adds advertise is a long way a way from anything new...seen the same adds since i became a member here.

Tom,

It took 25 sec's for AVSIM to come up.

Hi Folks

For a first-time visitor, or a full refresh,
this page is taking up to 60 seconds

from request to being fully rendered.

Its taking > 30 seconds just to deliver the html.

Thats consistent across multiple independent website testing services

tested across various requestor countries.

Example - Pingdom Tools - Test for this AVSIM page.

Additionally,

all have indicated avsim's host-server is sometimes dropping connections.

but in Fiddler I'm getting 404 /. not found

"If I were a rich man... Yubby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dum..."

I find AVSIM to be one of the slower loading websites I visit, but it is consistent. I haven't noticed it faster or slower in any distinguishable matter of time (I try not to dwell on microseconds).

I'm anything but tech savvy, so in my ignorance, I attribute it to the call-up time over the internet from the moment I click in the browser, to the time the page opens. I consider it normal, and just accept it for what it is.

And really, who the heck am I to complain about a free site on the internet, that offers free downloadable content for my enjoyment, along with a forum where I can ramble on to express my thoughts for the world to see?

Click, launch, enjoy...perhaps not as fast as other places in the web world, but whatever! It work's and I don't have a solution to make it any better. See you on the inside...some sooner than others!

Do not judge people until you've walked a mile in their shoes. Then at least you are a mile ahead of them when you ###### them off...

I found the Avsim forum slow to pull up pages both yesterday morning and this morning. 20 secs to change pages after each click. Frustrating enough that I opened another tab and read another website while waiting for the Avsim pages to load. At 1:30 Mountain time I was reading the latest comments on this thread and just about to do a TRACERT per Tom's suggestion when the response time went back to normal. If this occurs again tomorrow morning I will do a TRACERT and post.

Frequently when trying to connect to AVSIM this is where it hangs for me:

ajax.googleapis.com

It will sometimes sit there forever if I don't cancel the connection attempt and restart it. Lately even that doesn't consistently get me connected.

In fairness to AVSIM, I've also seen another site occasionally bog down at that exact same place in the loading.

My hops don't use ajax.googleapis.com

I noticed the forum slow down after the last forum software update. We're not talking about milliseconds, but seconds. I'm now doing what Ted is doing. I Keep the forum home page up, then open any new topics in a new tab and go read something else or wait 20+ seconds for the page to load. In the lower left hand corner of Firefox you see "Waiting for forum.avsim.net".

I did a tracert on "forum.avsim.net" and no one time was higher then the mid 50's (ms). Ping yielded about 145ms.
I did a tracert on "library.avsim.net" and the highest number I saw was in the mid 60's (ms). Ping yielded the same, about 150ms.
The hops to the forum server and library server are exactly the same.
The library loads instantly and the forums take 20+ seconds to load (never used too).

I also tried this:
Opened up a command prompt and typed in: ping forum.avsim.net -t
The minus -t switch will ping Avsim continuously until you stop it.
I then opened Firefox and tried to open the Avsim forums while watching the ping times. Average times varied from 139ms to 156ms with zero timeouts yet it takes 20+ seconds to load the forum in Firefox or IE.

I'm glad the OP posted his concerns, because I thought it was just me.

My hops don't use ajax.googleapis.com

I didn't suggest a tracert to AVSIM goes through ajax.googleapis.com. When connecting to AVSIM with a browser (Firefox, Chrome) the stall occurs at that point. Try a tracert to ajax.googleapis.com and see if you get the same timeout.

 buy the man a beer..

I just went from page 3 of this thread to page 2 and back to page 3. It took 45 and 43 seconds respectively. My tracert and ping reports are below.

I also tried the pingdom test Paul linked to. It reported 60 seconds to load the page.

I don't know what the problems is doctors, just reporting the symtoms. Firefox, XP SP3, Comcast cable. Not having any problems with any of my other regular websites.

Hi Guys,

Sometimes I am having a similar problem with loading from 10 to 60 seconds, which is far too wide a spread. We are pursuing a number of ideas and talking to members who understand this more than I do. Please bear with us as we try to get to the bottom of this and correct it.

Kind regards,
