April 1, 201313 yr My dad Is a former United 747-400 captain with over 2000 hours in that type would PMDG let him beta test the V2? ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170
April 1, 201313 yr My dad Is a former United 747-400 captain with over 2000 hours in that type would PMDG let him beta test the V2? Perhaps. Though I remember reading in one of the intro manuals (the MD-11 I think) their standards are stricter than most airlines. Just being a 744 captain might not be enough. Though what do I know? Maybe you could send a ticket via the support desk (I think that's the only way to contact them) and see what they have to say? Kenny Lee"Keep climbing"
April 1, 201313 yr Author Well hes got about 30k hours total time I don't see what else they'd want lol ATP MEL,CFI,CFII,MEI. Type Ratings B-737, ERJ-190,ERJ-170
April 1, 201313 yr SO YOU WANT TO BE A PMDG TESTER? ================================== We get quite a bit of email from folks asking if they can join our beta team- so I thought I would put this comment out here in the open for everyone to see… First, please understand that we are not currently recruiting beta testers… On those rare occasions where we do have an opening, we generally approach someone from inside this forum who is known to us and who has a long history of participating in the forum in a manner that makes this forum a beneficial place for other simmers. Next, we are always looking for technical advisors. Right now we are still interested to add 777 or DC-6 qualified pilots and mechanics to the Technical Advisors team which will be up and running during the next few weeks. If you have verifiable qualification to fly the 777 or DC-6, or if you have verifiable work history maintaining them- then please reach out to us via our support portal at http://support.precisionmanuals.com Was from Rob in an upload a while back. Maybe contact them via that? I remember them putting out the exact hours needed a year ago - just not the numbers, sorry! - Luke Pabari
April 1, 201313 yr Well hes got about 30k hours total time I don't see what else they'd want lol He actually has to sign a paper where stands he cannot allow you to take a glance at beta product. Beside that, I guess PMDG beta testers are volunteers. Why would anyone want to do something for free, or even to pay to beta test (some other developers practice this policy) Lj. April 1, 201313 yr Not just Airline/Type credentials - but scenario testing skills, PC skills, organizational skills, and a meticulous nature - and someone they can trust with a non-disclosure agreement. I've been through situational testing and final acceptance testing for several software roll-outs (in work), and it's quite tedious work. The scenario lists are long and take a lot of time for each. Maybe a little more fun for flightsim, but it's more fun to be patient and wait for the finished product and lock myself away for a few weeks. I can't see this happening for someone outside PMDG's inner circle. But if your Uncle is a 744 pilot, he would add a lot of value to the forums here. And that's a good start to the relationship with PMDG. Bob Donovan - KBOS
April 1, 201313 yr If your name is Luke Pabari, it automatically disqualifies you from ever becoming a PMDG beta tester  Sorry, had to get that in Luke lol cuz I know how much you love PMDG goodies. Shoot 2000 hours in a 744?? I'd think he'd be a shoo-in if they have an opening. Chris Sunseri

April 1, 201313 yr What exactly am I doing here? You want to see his logs? I dont really like what I think you ment by that comment! I think you should chill out a little. It was a light jab intended to surmise that you were trying to get the 747 early via your dad. Let's not all wear our feelings on our shoulder here. Matt L.
April 1, 201313 yr When I joined, it was done by reality TV show - "Survivor" style. The hardest bit was answering deep technical questions about the MD11 Hydraulic system while lying in a muddy bog, being shot at with paintball guns, we lost a lot of good men that day... Seriously though, while understanding the specific systems and operating techniques for a given airplane are important, PMDG doesn't generally use us to validate the accuracy of the simulation, rather they are looking for people who can do disciplined, repeatable testing to trap any errors or bugs, and ideally to identify the root cause. Asides from my aviation experience I have a background in software development and testing, and that was far more use to me in beta than any particular deep technical knowledge. If your Dad has that sort of background, and is prepared to put in a significant amount of hours chasing down obscure anomalies, then I'm sure PMDG would love to hear from him. Mark Adeane - NZWN
April 2, 201313 yr Commercial Member I always love the hours argument... ...but, but, but...BIG NUMBER! Man, by that metric, with the years and amount of games of baseball I played, I should be in MLB. Kyle Rodgers
