Original - wait for the Milviz -200 (not far off now)

Classic - wait for the Enigma Sim one, assuming it lives up to expectations

NG - as above

Depends on what 737 you want, and what exactly you want it to do:

737 Original (100, 200): Either the freeware Tinmouse (no VC, can't talk about the systems), or the CS, or the Milviz (only 737-200ADV, still in the works, though). I think the Milviz one will be the best, when it's finally going to be released.

737 Classic (300, 400, 500): Currently only the Wilco one, which I don't recommend, mainly because the modelling is not up to today's standard, and also because the Wilco installer have always messed up my dll.xml. But Enigma Sim are working on it, and that one looks very promising.

737 NG (600, 700, 800, 900): Posky has them as freeware, and with a little work you can merge it with the default 737 VC or you can also find a few packages where the planes already come whit a VC - but that's actually only default systems, though the exterior model is nicer. Then there's the iFly 737, which offers all the NG variants in one package, including the  BBJ models, at the price of the PMDG base package, which is only the 738 and 739. The advantage of the iFly is that it can be bought from Flight1, which gives you the opportunity to test it and return it within 30 days if you don't like it.

The iFly, while modelling (nearly) all the systems does not have failures as teh PMDG NGX does, and maybe the flight dynamics aren't as good, but I still regard the iFly one of the best airliners in my virtual hanger, but then again I don't have the NGX.

With 737NG i can recomend both Ifly and PMDG NGX. Maybe if you want more value for your money it is Ifly cause you get all the variant´s while PMDG only give´s you 800 and 900 series. System wise they both are fine. With graphics PMDG is the winner thoug Ifly doesn´t look bad either. With flight dynamics i think PMDG feels bit more realistic. There might be other opininion´s to that.

I have them both and if i now have to choose one i would go with PMDG one. After all i only use the 800 series.

The best NG is from PMDG. For FS9 the IFly is a good alternate.

At the moment, I think the JF 737 is best.

Milviz (only 737-200ADV, still in the works, though).

Milviz will not be doing the advanced model, only basic 200 with an upgraded cockpit.

If it is just "737" you are looking for, then the PMDG NGX blows the wings off the competition.

Only the 800 and 900 series? You're talking about PMDG?

Looking  for a 737, what's the best, payware or freeware?

I can agree with most of what has been said and I would like to add that the NGX from PMDG is the most demanding on your flight sim hardware, you will need a robust and tuned system to get any kind of satisfactory performance from it, the ifly in my opinion is more forgiving in modest systems which should be factored in to people's evaluation.

The way some of the posts referring to PMDG are written, it leaves one with the impression that they only market the 738 & 739 when in fact they also have the 736 & 737. The latter are marketed I believe, as an add on to the 738/739 base package and if they are as good as the 738/739 (which I have), they are superb and well worth spending the extra over and above the base package.
