November 30, 201312 yr Please advise on this when you've tried it out. Thanks! I'm sorry to report that the fps fluctuations are still present, both turning the plane when taxing and when banking in air. It would be interesting if someone else could test this as well. November 30, 201312 yr Updated maybe, but where is the "update"? I also still have that wierd stutter/framdrop after takeoff and turning left/right... Didnt notice any big improvment at all from the "original" installer... (ofcourse there is an update in some way, and maybe noticable for others but not for me!) I had really hopes for this SP1... but sad to say. Disapointed. P.
November 30, 201312 yr Still have the long texture loads and sometime stutters others have mentioned. I posted on the support forum also. I REALLY believe the texture sheets are too large and we really do not need a cabin modeled. Waste of polys and texture loading IMHO. 2048x2048 texture sheets for the wings, nacelles, engines etc is too much and I believe this is the main problem for load times if you are in external view. probably the casue of stutters on some level also. The default texture folder is 367MB and each individual paint is on the order of 40 MB. That is a lot for an aircraft.
November 30, 201312 yr Commercial Member Thanks and I'll report this. Remember the second SP might be the one that will resolve the FR issues and any existing FDE issues to a more satisfactory level.
December 6, 201312 yr In an interest to make this excellent DC-8 the very best it can be, I've created a new airfile plus cfg for the -32 series. With the help of AirEd and AirWrench I believe I've corrected the FDE issues that I noted and added as much feel and realism to the aircraft that I can. The aircraft will no longer lift the nose at 70kts, at typical operating weights with one notch of flaps - V Rotate at 138 kts and the aircraft will fly cleanly away by 150kts. Modified Flap Angles Corrected high pitch angles at approach speeds that were making it hard to see over the nose. Modified CoG Modified stall behavior- the aircraft will now drop a wing and pitch down in an aggravated stall but will recover forgivingly. Added "feel" to the airfile eliminating the "on rails" feeling we see in many FS aircraft. Add some turbulence for a good time! I've tested these files extensively but I'm sure there are improvements that can be made. I welcome any feedback. These files are for the latest full release of the JustFlight DC-8. If anyone is interested in testing them, feel free to download and let me know what you think. Please backup your original cfg and airfile the -32 series. I could not see where Justflight has restricted anyone from modifying their airfiles (as they allow repaints) but if there is an issue just let me know. December 11, 201312 yr Commercial Member If you encountered issues with the FDE (pre or post service pack), please drop me a PM. Thanks Martyn - Just Flight Martyn - Just Flight
December 12, 201312 yr Maybe not directly related to the sp, but I now have mainly a radar altimeter display on the MCP and little else. I have tried a total delete and reinstall of the original, but no joy. I have submitted a ticket but have not yet received a reply. Any help appreciated. Ron Ron Service .
January 8, 201412 yr Commercial Member A quick update - Service pack 2 is still undergoing testing hence it not seeing the light of day just yet. Fairly confident it will resolve the major outstanding issues and there's other stuff too in there but just need to ask for a bit of patience on it - couple of weeks maximum I believe. Thank you

Fairly confident it will resolve the major outstanding issues and there's other stuff too in there but just need to ask for a bit of patience on it - couple of weeks maximum I believe. Thank you Thanks Scott! Any plans to port this beauty over to X-Plane? Any plans at all by JF to develop anything for X-Plane?
January 8, 201412 yr About X-Plane, I was wondering what happened to the 800XP port to X-Plane. Alexander Colka
January 15, 201412 yr Commercial Member We have Air Hauler for X-Plane Skully. No immediate plans for this and others for X-Plane just yet but never say never of course Alex, it's still In Dev but we had to divert resource away to the DC-8 (same developer you see). Ideally they'd be done simultaneously but that's not a luxury we're able to entertain at present.
January 15, 201412 yr Thank you for the reply Scott! Please consider taking a serious look at developing for X-Plane. JF could position themselves quite well at this early stage in the game.
February 14, 201412 yr Commercial Member It's been a while coming so thanks for your patience but I'm pleased to be able to tell you that the Service Pack 2 for the DC-8 is now available. Full details of this major update are on the Support page (link below). We have incorporated Service Pack 2 into a new build of the aircraft, so you will need to re-download and install the whole DC-8 product again. PLEASE READ THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. http://www.justflight.com/supportfaq/dc-8-jetliner#cc17ae0 If you log in to your Just Flight Account and click on 'Your Orders' you will be able to download the new software. We believe most if not everything has been covered in this pack, here's a brief summary of what to expect: Reported bugs have been addressed and, wherever possible, requested features from owners of the Just Flight DC-8 aircraft have been incorporated New texture/model swapper tool to allow frames to be increased where required Users who have installed or created additional liveries will have them preserved during the Service Pack installation Cockpit upgrade ranging from improved detail and texture resolution to completely new code for the autopilot Notable additions to the cockpit are sound for all switches and knobs and various warning sirens, fire bells and so on to increase the immersive quality of the cockpit The general layout of the instrument panels has changed and now replicates actual cockpits in the early series of the DC-8 rather than the more generic composition of the previous cockpit Operation of most knobs and dial controls now simplified and standardised Third party radar – with the increasing amount of third-party radar add-ons available, we have placed a placeholder gauge tile in the centre screen of the weather radar (WXR) unit to allow third party radars to be installed Autopilot unit now simulates the exact operation of this unit type as fitted to early DC-8s in United Airlines service (and others) GPS – following customer requests we have added a 2D GPS panel. The autopilot is configured to fly GPS or NAV coordinates and will follow a flight plan set in the GPS if the GPS/NAV switch is switched to the GPS position Engineer’s panel – significant changes have been made to this area in the the electrical and Hydraulics and fuel systems Thanks and I hope this leads to an even better experience with your DC-8 and you find this update to your satisfaction.
February 14, 201412 yr Sounds good to me Scott! I'll re-download and check it out when I get the chance. Very good to see you guys going back and updating/improving stuff based on customer feedback. I just pre-ordered the Canberra this morning, very much looking forward to it. Nick
