Can PMDG enable FMC control via Internet IP address?

Really hope PMDG can get into an agreement with this fellow App creator. This is the best Flight Simulator App I have ever seen! It would make my 777 simulation totally awesome as well if this CDU was implemented there as well.

I concur with your feelings!  If PMDG is uncomfortable with a public embrace, perhaps a "use at your own risk, not supported by PMDG" statement would cover them without a lot of additional fuss and bother to either party.  Since the product is designed for products OTHER than PMDG as well as the NGX, there might be a little 'wiggle room' if PMDG is feeling magnanimous.  They  certainly should feel so, they are 'the go-to' company for payware aircraft in FSX.  Can't tell you about the pent-up demand over on the darkside (x-Plane).  So many of the x-Plane pilots are drooling at the thought of a PMDG product for their platform, it's mind-boggling.

All this speculation is of course just a guessing game, until and unless PMDG puts out an official position statement on the product.
hm, let me bring this up before it drowns between all those requests for a 787. honestly, would be pleased to hear something from PMDG after Tabs brought this on the table. thanks

well, to those who say that its not bad..

i am developing as well (take FS2Crew RAAS for example) and i worked a lot of hours on it. If I would write an SDK for it so people can use messages and display them on their displays, it would be one thing but if someone would decompile my files to see my source code,... well, I wouldnt like it. I wouldnt like it at all. If someone would write me a mail, that he needs a special feature, then okay, maybe i would develop just that (if i could) but not if someone breaks into any of my products and trys to do it that way. No matter how "good" the reasons are. And I can tell you one thing, at this point, if I would be PMDG (i am not, so this is just my opinion), I wouldnt even like any kind of "cooperation". Why? Because how can i trust someone who broke into my product in the first place.

Without reading the code for Virtual CDU- all we can do is "guess" at how the guy is implementing.  I want to make sure you recognize that the competing products from VRInsight and FlightDeckSolutions DO write data back to the virtual CDU in NGX, just like this bad boy does.  What's different is that they drag the virtual screen out to a mini monitor.  Point is, you press a key on their hardware and you see the response both on their aftermarket CDU -and- the FSX 'virtual' CDU.

So while I certainly agree that "it's possible" something seems to be not exactly kosher, we can trust that PMDG at some point will determine an appropriate response, whatever that might be.  It might be private, for any number of reasons.  Once you 'go public' with something, there is a ripple effect, sometimes with intended but oft times unintended further impact.  I imagine they want to protect their product as a primary goal, but there are other considerations of the marketplace of which I have no doubt they will discuss as well.  From a PR standpoint, I think silence may indeed be golden.

Many of us who enjoy the added immersion and greatly-improved flight flows this product provides would be distraught if we had to fly this wonderful aircraft without the Virtual CDU on our tablet or smartphone.

It looks like the app has been pulled from both the App Store and Google Play store.

I, like others probably, was waiting for PMDG and the developer to sort things out before buying it.

It's a shame, really. Seemed like a great app to me!

Sigh, what a big dissappointment. :( Anyone know why this got pulled?

Thanks for coming to an agreement with the dev on that app PMDG. It was a lot better using it (which I still will) than using the in-sim one. I imagine PMDG got one their lawyers to threaten rather than come to an agreement with the dev. So much for end user wishes. So nice of pmdg to explain their position to us.

I imagine the NGX SP2 will likely have code to break the application as well. User beware.

Ridiculous !

It is/was . I really hope pmdg gave them a chance to work with them and not just sent the lawyers in. I received an email from the developer saying they also wanted to support the 777 once the SDK came out, but I guess that's not going to happen now... Sad day.

Let's not start to imagine things without facts! Let's wait to hear what both sides has to say before making accusations!

The SDK does not support reading or writing to the CDU (with very good reason)

With all due respect, I think this information about SDK capability is not entirely accurate.

I'm a developer as well and I have some C++ background. Just for curiosity checked the header file (PMDG_NGX_SDK.h) available on SDK, actually anyone can check it on PMDG installation folder.

I'm not saying what is or not possible, but for sure there are several references to CDU on this file (147 matches), IMHO read and write variables to CDU inside SDK.

Sigh.  We are all victims of our imaginations!  As someone else said, let's wait for "official word" from one or both sides.  For all we know, the suspension of sales may have been voluntary on the part of the dev while the 'details' are worked out.  All we can do is hope.  I'm sure we will eventually get the facts placed before us.  Meanwhile, I'm sad though.  I really think this product has legs and perceived value.  I regard it as one of the very most important add-on products I've ever purchased for simming.

I am not sure if this is fitting thing to tell one of the developers.

There is something like 71 or so buttons on each SDK, every one of those can be sent to the sim via SDK. That makes 140+ buttons between two CDUs, plus maybe some control variables (I don't have SDK at hand). None of these allow for reading CDU screen or FMC variables (take it from a fellow developer who was quite interesting in FMC integration for one of his projects)

hope to get something real soon from either side.

Disappointed. Lets hope we hear from either party soon.

You're forgetting the software also works with iFly, so hopefully the application will at least live on with that vendor. iFly BTW also has a P3D version.
