DX10 Fixer released!

Featured Replies

*Smoother* it definitely is ... no micro stutters etc. Framerates aren't the Holy Grail. What's the point of high framerates when your scenery looks like porridge? DX10 gives us the best of both worlds, IMHO.

Adam.

You can easily try all of Steve's earlier freeware fixes.

Arguable Adam :). No matter how good your scenery looks or how realistic the shadows are ..... having 10fps on approach will not make your simming experience better.

......and neither will a shimmering mass of textured garbage in front of you. That problem first reared its ugly head in FS5 (easily the worst graphics that I have ever seen in a flight simulator), and it persisted in MSFS for quite some time.

I'll bite! ;)

As an inveterate screenshotter, I work backwards to most people I know. I crank every slider or cfg value to the maximum, then gradually work my way towards something marginally faster than the slide show I like to have for my "art".

Very often, I keep the same settings for general flying - so I fly in the region of 10-20fps a lot. If the sim doesn't pause, stutter or give horrific redraws then it really *IS* OK (for me at least) - and approaches are slow-ish but *steady* with no "catch-ups" that suddenly bang you into the runway . I suppose it really depends on where you spend most of your time - inside the cockpit or watching the world go by.

One of the reasons this DX10 thing works well for me is that it really does allow me to do both forms of flying without changing any settings.

Understandable, but I'm kind of skeptical about throwing 35 bucks away into the air. I could spend that money on some scenery that works, rather than praying that something might or might not work.

I agree the sim is smoother, meaning that the micro stutters are gone...however it is not a cure all for heavy sceneries, with crazy slider settings, and 100% AI, and expect 30 locked constantly.

Well my DX9 with almost all sliders to the right hovers around 30fps. Only some sceneries like Anchorage or Honk Kong I get drops to 22-24

Do you run AI addons?

I think I'm doing away with all AI addons...I get such super smooth flights everywhere (I run 40fps locked for trackIR, even Unlimited at times), even with Orbx, and heavy weather situations without them.  I just hate seeing those airports so bare.

I fly mostly online, so my only AI is other traffic.

I've ran few tests with freeware fix (3.2.2) and FPS seemed to be lower, but a tad more smoother, now if I get the Fixer will I need to uninstall the 3.2.2. or it will do it on its own?

I think the general view is to find the default shaders archive file (Stock_ShadersHLSL.zip : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/52676345/DX10_Fix/Stock_ShadersHLSL.zip) and manually install/overwrite your old experimental ones. Then install the payware Fixer over these fresh shaders.

At least you know you've started with a clean sheet.

Sounds good. Thanks Adam :)
Gonna run a few more tests and then conclude whether to buy or not to buy, that is the question :)

Those observations are relevant to his rig and may, or may not, pertain to all other users. Unfortionately the only way to really know, is to give it a shot.

Rayz...a most excellent comment...and this pertains to really the whole hobby.  We all have different CPU's GPU's, PSU's, and memory configs and all of the aforementioned, by any number of different supplier combos.  Too many variants to just read that someone had an issue with any hardware and or software. As you say, you need to feel if there is an interest/need to run it..and like Las Vegas...drop in the coin, and pull down the lever. I held that viewpoint in buying Steve's DX10 Fixer...and I struck gold with that one!

Again, a very good comment! This  view on things, should be pinned to the top of every forum, before anyone can read a post from within....

If you are getting those FPS rates with Bloom, Flare, and Airplane casts shadows upon itself, with clouds set to at least 70 miles with Opus driving them (DX9 mode)...if you can do that...then I don't think you are a candidate for DX10.  Running with DX9 gives you 100 percent compatibility with feature sets as delivered by the 3PD's.  Most go to DX10, because they need more FPS performance and less chance of a CDT/OOM as a result of their flight requirements.  You can still get an OOM with DX10, but very much reduced if DX9 is also compared. Trade off,in all things.

I do get OOM @ Anchorage (AS), LAX and YVR (FSDT).

Plus...if you are running bloom in dx9 ok...then stick with dx9. Maybe someone else can chime in here, but, imo bloom looks far better in dx9, especially with REX lighting effects. Those effects don't seem to work in dx10 and VASI lights with bloom enabled just looks like a blob of lights versus beautiful refracted star patterns in dx9. Plus you don't get sun reflections off the canopy and guages in dx10.

So far....so bad lol. Im getting amazing performance by looking around VC (PMDG 777) nice shadows and water looks sick, but.....a BIG BUT as soon as I look @ clouds (512 resolution) my frames drop dramatically, and by dramatically I mean......I got a drop of 10-15fps. So instead of steady 30, im flying with a laggy 15. Kind of annoying considering I just took off, I hope no clouds at my destination airport, or I'll be seeing FPS in single digits.

Edit. I noticed it only happening in Full Screen, on windowed mode, steady 30 fps. Any suggestions?

Here's the screenshot, some help could be appreciated.

I noticed it has nothing to do with clouds, only when I look @ water.

Edit 2:
While looking anywhere but the bottom of my seat, outside, water, ski ..... my CPU usage is unbearable, I cannot do anything outside of sim, takes me 5 seconds to press the button.
