In the DXSceneryFixer Controller application, you'll see a button called "Legacy" under Shaders. Click on this, and move the slider all the way to the left (towards favor Scenery).

There was a thread a while back where someone was getting a huge micro pause stutter every time they landed, and thought it was a sound file playback issue (the touchdown sound causing the pause), but it ended up being related to a touchdown smoke effect........

-------------------------------------------

Dave, I have a question,  if you are landing and hear the tires squeal, but are in the cockpit looking forward, and not viewed to see the touchdown smoke, would that not cause a stutter, in that the program did have the call to visually render the particle effect?

Also, whenever I have start up smoke coming out of the back of any jet engine, I am not of course moving, in having just been pushed back, and cleared for engine start. How is the engine smoke affecting your DX10 FPS performance, or causing an animation stutter?  You folks are not moving in that 777, or so I'd imagine?  How is this affecting animation FPS performance?  I must be missing something here.....

The effect system doesn't know that there isn't a window in the bottom of the plane allowing the pilot to see the wheels!

Can spray be seen from the cockpit? Yes e.g in The Maule If you accelerate in rain and brake you can see it.

The effect system just knows the effect to run and where its attached

Good questions - Not sure in my honest answer. [EDIT: Steve's reply above sounds logical].   There appears to be something going on with regards to some effects, and their resource intensity, but it's hard to nail what is happening. Perhaps it's a Red Herring; not sure.   Perhaps some effects are somehow sitting on standby ready to go, and use some resources.  As you can tell I haven't a clue what is really happening, except that when I disabled one particular PMDG smoke effect, I saw a noticeable frame rate increase in the NGS under DX9.

Crazy stuff this FSX business!

Ah...ok...so FSX knows when the undercarriage touches the ground, no matter..and creates the particle effect. Gotcha!  Thanks.

Yes, too bad that each and every system, and its components within...will ultimately dictate to the user, the end result... On another thread, I just posted to 'Ray', and included my FSX.cfg. I suggested that he parse my 27-30 FPS-producing .cfg file, line by line and compare to his settings.  Perhaps try some of mine, where there is a difference and see what happens....  No baloney....you will see what is on, and at what settings in my .cfg file...and that gives me no drop below my bottom of 27 FPS...and that is with Opus driving the 70 mile setting inside FSX!!!!  It's been cloudy for the most part, around Bar Harbor, Maine..and that is where I have been flying, until this evening...a switch to West Virginia (KMRB).

You simmers that are complaining about Steve Parsons fixer should thank god that there is a programmer out there and I will say an excellent programmer that has taken his time to fix what Microsoft should long time ago. You would not have DX10 running the way it is running today with his fixes. I had paid the price and because of the new fixes I have purchased FTXG and I have not looked back. And if it wasn't for his fixes I would not have proper shadows in my A2A C-172 trainer and the great looking scenery in the Orbx global scenery. So please let the man get what wants for his program and quit whining.

Hi, I didn't look at VAS with any degree of depth, but from a quick glance it does appear that DX10 is using less VAS on 'like for like' rendering.    And thus, even though FPS and smoothness may not always be superior to DX9, it does seem the case that running the DX10 Fixer will make OOMs a lot less likely.

To be honest I don't see many OOMs at all in DX9, mainly because, as a TrackIR user, I rate fluidity, smoothness and good frames very highly, and I lower my visual settings accordingly.   When flying complex airliners for example, I usually have autogen at sparse, AI airline traffic at 10%, and road traffic at around 7%.   Just enough to see some of the candy.   But I rarely see OOMs, as I'm not maxed out, and I don't tend to use hyper memory intensive packages like Drzewiecki New York X, etc.

But for those plagued by OOMs, DX10 offers a good solution.

Hi Dave!

Thank You vey much again for Your comment here!

+1 Indeed!

Enjoy flying and happy landings.

Ah yes that's right - I renamed that one some time ago, as that was causing the micropause when landing wasn't it? (that people thought was audio related).     You've got a better memory than me Julian!

Hi Guys,

Just a quick question....   Since I installed the DX10 fixer, I can't see my traffic 2013 aircrafts at airports....   is this a known issue ?

thank you

Greg

too much, too soon....

Working for me.  One thing - if you let FSX rebuild the fsx.cfg as part of your move to DX10, did you copy over the SimObjects path entry for My Traffic?  It needs its own line in the cfg, otherwise the traffic won't show up.  Not sure if that's your issue but it just comes to mind as something quick to check.

Oups my fault.....  Mytraffic was out of my scenery library.....

too much, too soon....

So I jumped in this afternoon and bought it..... I very nervously hit the buy button... alas honour is due.  UK2000 looks great, ultimate traffic works great.  No grey textures. A good 20 English pounds well spent, frames up by 10 to 15. So far so good
