I received an email yesterday from The FlightSim Store about an error in the fixers installation routine.

Hopefully they are just fixing this and have withdrawn the product temporarily.

"This is an important message regarding your purchase of SteveFX - DX10 Scenery Fixer. Please take note of the information in this email.

It has come to our attention that the Install Location screen for the installer of this product indicated that you should select the main FSX folder location on your computer as the destination folder for installation. This is incorrect and can lead to a situation where the selected folder would be deleted upon uninstallation.

If you installed to the default location given by the installer there is no need to be concerned. The default location that the installer uses is C:\Program Files\DX10SceneryFixer on 32bit machines, and C:\Program Files (x86)\DX10SceneryFixer on 64bit machines.

However, if you selected you main FSX folder during installation of this product, or any other folder shared with other applications, we advise that you download the latest version of the installer from your download files page in your account at The FlightSim Store and re-install the product without uninstalling the existing files. This will allow you to install the files into a location other than your FSX folder (it is best to accept the default location), so that if you ever need to uninstall the product you will not have this issue.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused ......"

The product has been withdrawn at Steve's request, until further notice. A new fix for the uninstaller has been made and is with Steve for testing. With the exception of one terrible incident the issue has for the most part been quite a non-event and we here at FSS are hopeful that the product will make a return, but the decision is ultimately with the developer.

Cheers, Adrian

Adrian, thanks for that update. We look forward to hearing from Steve that he is ready for an updated release.

A little pricey don't you think?? considering I read it doesn't really fix ALL sceneries, just most. Will it fix imaginesim KATL 2012?

I'm gong to wait - Prepar3d is just around the corner with DX11

We've been waiting all these years, what more is a few months? :)

You'll be back.

Talk about timing, I knew I should have bought it when it came out.  I was waiting to do a reinstall of all my FSX stuff which I just finished over 4 nights.  Now that I'm all ready to enjoy FTX Global night lighting in all its glory in DX10, the fixer is gone :(  Really hope this comes back quick.  I'm sure it will be back, the question is for how long will it be gone.

Thanks for this notice. Yikes. I would have easily been among the uninstaller casualties.

If I don't plan to uninstall the fixer, should I even bother re-downloading it from the flight sim store?

I installed mine in my FSX folder.

If you want to be completely safe, you can do what I did - download the Fixer again and install it in its default path (C:\Program Files (x86), then go to the FSX directory and delete (don't uninstall) the Fixer folder.  Then there's no chance of damage even from an accidental uninstall (Murphy says it's possible you could uninstall the fixer by mistake).

The only other thing you'll need to do is relaunch the Fixer dialogue and restore your settings.  All the buttons will have reverted to default settings.  Your actual Fixer install won't have changed - all the libraries and shader settings will still be there.  But the newly-installed setup dialogue won't know that.  So, once again for safety's sake, re-enter your Fixer settings (took me about half a minute, maybe less).

And then you're free and clear to navigate.

Thanks Alan.  I don't plan to ever uninstall the DX10 Fixer.  I'm hooked.

I will take your advice and re-download it from FSS, BUT, not yet.  It's the weekend and I just want to fly B) .  I will re-download next week.

Thanks again.

Am not planning to uninstall it either. But after the kind of week I've had, I could easily see myself clicking on it by mistake while trying to uninstall something else. Seems implausible, I know. But then, so did the idea of a Fixer uninstall wiping out the whole FSX folder.

I hear you about the flying. Using FSX to fly airplanes... seems like a real novelty. And kind of nice...

Fortunately for me, I am most careful when it comes to installing/uninstalling due to my light/moderate OCD (not exactly a good thing to have lol).

I feel bad for the poor guy that discovered this the very hard way when he uninstalled the fixer.

Looks like you just went through one of those long hard week.  I hate those.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.  And don't try to uninstall anything until you're fully rested  .

You don't have to re-download it: you can simply reinstall the addon using the installer you have but make sure you install it into the default folder or any other dedicated folder that's not shared with another program.

What happened in the "terrible incident"? Did some guy at NASA wipe out the entire technical database whilst trying to get his REX wave animation to work?
