New Petition Against Microsoft

Featured Replies

Just so. You don't like the figures because they conflict with your preconceived ideas, despite having no idea yourself what they should be.

Of course I have no idea what they actually are, No one does. What I do see is a company posting strong numbers but also has an expensive F-35 program with partners backing out of commitments and shrinking government budgets. Just as in the past I've seen that sort of thing as well. That would have an effect on the bottom line somewhere you would think.

The numbers posted today are from a strong LM involvement in supplying NATO in recent global conflicts which has also come to an end at this point. wait another year and I don't believe you will see numbers increasing from them anymore.

A mere handful of signatures on a petition will confirm the companies in their view that there's no serious demand.

+1.

Someone at Microsoft probably keeps them in a folder so whenever a meeting about resurrecting FS happens, they pull out the petitions, note the number of signatures, and downhill it goes.

Lockheed gets its $$$$ from the taxpayer. and think they should give P3d free of charge to the taxpayer

Lockheed already gives the taxpayer real aeroplanes, missiles, etc, etc, in exchange for those $$$. Every police officer also gets his dollars from the tax payer, does that mean police officers should give you free stuff?

Lockheed gets its $$$$ from the taxpayer.

So do restaurants, car dealers, airlines, office supply companies, construction companies and thousands of other public and private businesses like Lockheed Martin.

Don't be silly. Microsoft also gets $$$$ from the tax payer but Flight Simulator was never free  of charge.

Pointless petition.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Pointless petition.

Indeed.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.

Hi all,

My names is James and I am the author of this petition. There was no intention for it to be anonymous, it doesn't show the author's name for some reason in the post page.

For those concerned about how it has been written, I take your points on board and would be happy to receive any suggestions from you. Feel free to message me or point me in the direction of someone who may wish to provide an edit of the text.

For those concerned about donations, these appear at random it seems and can be totally ignored. I believe it is the ipetitions site asking for donations but you can cancel out. It certainly isn't me!

For those making comments about how pointless it all is, that's fine too. I am a flight sim enthusiast along with the rest of you. I'm passionate and keen for our hobby to have a future and I thought this may be a good way for people to show that there is a demand for an updated sim. Whether Microsoft or LM take notice (and I'm fully aware that it is a long shot) time will tell.

I happen to think that LM do care about the FS community as a whole. In their interactions through their forums, and in response to requests for features/feedback, they have shown that they are willing to listen to suggestions and ideas from anyone who gets in touch. It was my hope, however misguided it may be, that this may give the petition a chance of being looked at and considered. If that is a mistake, as many of you on here seem to believe, then it is an innocent one by me.

I am a user of FSX, P3D and X-Plane 10. I am excited about P3d V2.0 the most as it will still allow a huge number of legacy add-ons to work. I think it has the best chance to be the next gen sim until someone else comes up with something totally new. Therefore trying to petition Microsoft and LM to make it available to the widest audience of users and developers seemed like something worth trying.

My intentions are for this to be a positive thing but appreciate there will be many who disagree. To those that think this is a waste of time, there is no obligation to sign up. I don't know whether a few hundred or many thousand signatures will make any difference but wanted to give it a go.

Just wanted to clarify a bit of background and also not appear anonymous!

The specific people / team involved with P3D is something very different to LM as a whole. Just because the P3D people care about their users (and one would hope they would if LM is any good at hiring people) doesn't mean that LM as a company does.

Companies exist to make money and selling just 1 JSF will make LM more revenue than selling 1,000,000 academic licenses. Any petition that doesn't take that reality into account doesn't have much chance of success in my view, but best of luck to you all the same.

John-Alan Pascoe

James, the reason I think your efforts are futile are:

1) Lockheed Martin isn't an entertainment company, and unless heII freezes over, that is not a segment they are going to venture into.

2) Lockheed Martin has said loud and clear that ANYONE can use Prepar3D to LEARN about aviation and flying. If people don't want to treat P3D as a learning tool, then too bad for them.

It's great that you stand up for the community, but an entertainment license isn't going to make any difference whatsoever as long as LM isn't entering that market. Rather we should just be happy that there is someone out there taking simulation and aviation seriously and don't feel the need to make dumbed down versions of their products for consoles or tablets.

For the first time in history we have a real aircraft manufacturer making us a simulator. Let's just celebrate that and hope they keep making a professional product. I'd rather have Boeing enter this market than yet another half hearted attempt from Microsoft.

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

Microsoft will never reenter the Flight sim business, there's no money in it. There's been plenty of talk (not rumors either) of Microsoft focusing on its core business and releasing ventures that are mere distractions.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/microsoft-ceo-candidate-may-consider-selling-xbox-killing-bing-report/1100-6416052/

As lucrative as the xbox franchise is, there's a possibility of that being released from the MS umbrella. Xbox has and always will be a more lucrative venture than flightsim ever was. The whole idea behind flight Sim was never really a smart business decision. For a company to make a platform and then allow everyone else to build on it and they make the money is not really a sound business model.

In my opinion, LR is making the same mistake Microsoft did. You cannot really build an organization without recurring revenue/repeat business; however, once you buy the software how does LR make any more money? The reality is that many simmers are not smart consumers. An example of that is they continue to invest money in a platform that is no longer being developed and believe that by that minor action some resurrection is going to occur.

The P3D franchises are doing things a bit different, they are targeting a specific market (the training market). Simulation training has proven to be a viable and cost-effective solution as opposed to real on the ground, in the air, and on the water exercises. Compared to the industry as a whole, most flight simmers at home are not training under some formal curriculum. We will never be a major consideration for P3D.

The only real options for the flight Sim entertainment market are XP and flight gear. As making money becomes more of an issue I would continue to keep an eye on the validity of XP (in my opinion).
