Is default ATC ok with you?

Featured Replies

I wrote a question for LM about the fact that both airspace and ground movements are completely free and that nobody will call you even if your 172 is invading a runway or entering a final approach path at JFK. I remember a sim from a long time ago, must have been the Flight Unlimited series, where they had a clear notion of what you can and what you can't do in the air. I found it much more immersive.

Now, since 4 people have already voted against that question, I'd like to ask: is everyone satisfied with current FSX/P3D ATC system? Even more so when LM are (correctly) stressing the "simulation scenario" side.

Am I the only one to think that it needs some major revamping?

Thanks

If P3D's ATC is the same as FSX ... NO, it is not good enough for me.

I "up voted" a question on opening up the ATC SDK. Would be great if we can get a 3rd party developer to do a bang-up job of transforming the default ATC.

Upgraded ATC is one of the features that will determine whether or not I make the switch. The default FSX ATC is OK for VFR because it just leaves you alone, but the ATC for IFR is hopeless.

"Left a bit, now right a bit...no...make that left...OK now go right...now left again...hey, can you see the runway from up there? I haven't a clue..."

I bet $199 that its exactly the same. We've lived with it for 7years. I also bet another $199 that it would be in their best interest to open up the ATC SDK and let someone else fix it.

VoxATC is PrePar3D compatible.

P3D when its freezing in Quebec....well, that's most of the time...
C-GDXL based at CYQB for real flying when its warming up...

It looks like I'm going to need to purchase a 3rd party ATC addon.

At this point I'm not interested in a Live type (as in communicating with real people on the internet), so I'm wondering what others might recommend here.

Secondly, is there anything that both improves the ATC and adds Real Weather (as it looks like this is not included in P3D)?  If not, I need to know which addons work well together.

It's pretty hard to simulate effectively.  Radar Contact was pretty good, but it's dead and the default voices are terrible, they sound like Say from Workbench 1.3.

Perhaps somebody like Bryan from FS2Crew would like a shot at it.

It would be nice if LM could provide more freedom for AFCADS to determine active runways, so that AI traffic at complex airports is more realistic.

As far as I understand it, P3D v2 is still the same except for tweaks to the graphic engine to make it truly DX11 and getting dynamic shadows and such.

No mention of adressing ATC or flight models, right?

So better ATC is one of the three items at the top of my wishlist for future updates together with better weather and flight model.
