Baron Comparison

BTW I like them both, never thought about compering cuz one is 55 the other is 58 ..apple to apple, no

Well, while the comparison may not be exactly Red Delicious to Red Delicious, I don't think it is apples to oranges.  More like Red Delicious to Granny Smith perhaps?

The Carenado Baron does not feature FDE's by Bernt Stolle like their Bonanzas. I own the MilViz Baron and the Carenado Bonanza F33 and I think they're the perfect combination since you get one single and one twin, both with very smooth FDE's.

The Carenado A36 is supposed to be more detailed and up to date than their F33, but from what I've read, most seem to prefer the older F33 or the V-Tail version (V35?).

ahh just installed SP2, and suddenly I remember why I uninstalled this otherwise brilliant plane. at idle/taxi speed there is this annoying "click" sound at end of some engine sound loop (sorry english is not my first langauge, so sorry if I use wrong term "click") it is definately a loop sound as it make this little sound every so many seconds. When flying with earphones you clearly hear it.. driving me nuts and I am not technical so have no idea to fix sound file.

Sorry but this is the only plane I have that make this little sound.. sad to see it go again.. uninstalled

I bought the Milviz B55 when it first came out and was disappointed with the prop animation. The rear of the prop is black yet when spinning it showed white tip stripes! I asked if it could be sorted in an update and was told it was impossible. I sent it back and got a refund.

Due to this thread I went and bought it again, SP2 and all that. The prop animation hadn't changed. :(  But instead of sending it back I fired up PS. In ten minutes I had a tipless prop=happy camper. I'm now no longer fixated by the prop and can get on and enjoy, what I feel is the better aircraft.

If this irritates anyone, as it did me, PM me.

@flying bob...  at which point do you hear this noise?

@Ron.  I am sorry that this happened but, honestly, where did you ask?  Because I have absolutely no memory of this one.  (not saying it didn't happen but.. it's the kind of thing we do try and fix generally)

Lol-I found the real bird more irritating....about $250 US/hr to run (may be more now-avgas has only gone up since I sold her 3 years ago). Then those nasty annuals/engine replacements/logbook entries (especially the gps entry every 28 days) etc.

What a bargain to get the true feel and looks at such a low price. If only the prop tips had been the most irritating thing in the real bird! Now that I am retired I find flying the sim version a lot more trouble free-and certainly more cost efficient-and actually almost as satisfying!

.... hey guys ....talking about the E55,.does anyone knows where the Cabi/ Interior light switch .... The B58 got interior lights & panel light switch, with the E55 I find only one switch turning both the Interior & the pane, don't know if in a RW it's like this, but it's really annoying

Look at the first paragraph on page 131 of the MilViz_Baron_55_POH.pdf manual. These three knobs are tricky to get too. I suggest switching to the copilot's seat for easier access.

INTERIOR LIGHTING

Interior lights are controlled by a series of three rheostat knobs located on the center console below the trim wheels (figure 81). A courtesy light located in the door will be illuminated any time the door is in the open position. The cabin dome light is operated by an OFF-ON switch forward of the light. Individual reading lights above the standard third and fourth or the optional fifth and sixth seats are operated by switches between the air and light outlets. Three rheostat switches are located on the control console. One switch adjusts the intensity of the instrument flood lights located under the glareshield.

Lighting for the instruments is controlled by the second switch. The third switch regulates the lighting for the electrical panel, avionics panel and the trim tab indicators. The magnetic compass light, outside air temperature indicator light and map light are operated by a switch on the pilot's control wheel.

Now you're asking! When did the B55 first come out. I can't remember for the life of me!

The response though, is burned in my memory.

I was probably the only one that ever mentioned it. Anyway, I've fixed it to my satisfaction and if that's all there was to fix it's not bad. Most aircraft I've bought have required more.

I can remember your post very clearly as I also did not like the prop animation showing that white stripe and I also remember Milviz developer answer, that it is impossible to do and will not be accomodated then or in the future. If not mistaken (I am 99.9999% sure) it was posted here on milviz avsim site.

The A36 has Aspen glass gauges in the panel.. not everyone's cup of tea.

I've uninstalled mine and fly the F33 instead.

Ron,

I followed the link and read all about how complicated it would be to remove the white prop stripes on the wrong side of the prop according to the Milviz response.

Then I read here that you and PS solved the problem in a matter of ten minutes. Tell us, when did you learn how to remap and recompile a Milviz flight model - both internal and external? I'm really impressed with your hidden talents. You old goat.

I've uninstalled mine and fly the F33 instead.

I have not uninstalled mine, and I continue to fly it occasionally.  That with some fixes that Bert provided for the click spots on the Aspen, and fitment of the RXP Garmin 430 into the panel.

I track and record approx operating costs pertaining to my FSX hours, by type.  I fly the Bonanza when it makes economical sense for the load and distance/duration of my flights, keeping in mind that it is tied down at my base of operation at Easton, Maryland.  i.e if I fly the MilViz B55 from Easton to say Bloomington, Indiana, I do not then fly the A36 back home from there!

Despite Bert's fine help, on my 23" screen the Aspen is still too small to use without popping it up in 2D.  I prefer to fly VC with minimum pop-ups, so as Bert stated, it is not everyone's cup of tea, and in that regard not mine either.

What I like about the MilViz B55 is that it looks and feels to me like the T-42 I gained my instrument rating in now four decades ago.  MilViz did a great job of capturing that vintage look and feel.  And with RXP integration I am able to fly it with the VC with minimum use of 2D popups.

As a sidebar here, I currently own and often drive a 1969 MGB roadster, which is of about the same vintage as the B55 Baron.  Perhaps that is another reason why the MilViz just feels and fits for me.  If I've driven the MGB recently I can almost smell the T-42 (B55) interior when flying it in FSX.  (Please, no jokes about Lucas electronics!)
