November 26, 201312 yr Hello Avsim Members I have been away for a long while. I continued to Fly my sim (FSX) but since August this year I have been taking lessons. I am at 41.4 Hours now and am scheduling my CheckRide for PPL in two weeks. So Excited (and aprehensive)! My instructor is an Active Duty Naval Aviator (Rank of Commander) He is currently doing shore duty as Commanding Officer of Local Navy Individual Augmentee Center Training. To keep flying he has been a CFI here at our local airport. He spent 10 years training Naval Aviators at Pensecola. Being an Ex-navy Guy It has been great being instructed by someone I used to have to salute . He still uses terms like "wave off" instead of "go-around" and "180" inplace of "Abeam" the numbers....ETC..... So anyway, He has told me that I have been the fastest learner he has ever had, He said my instrument work was incredible. After 3-4 flights he said i should continue to do whatever it was doing on the sim. In truth, for the last 4-5 weeks i havnt simmed any. There are alot of things that are just so different from the sim but with that said alot of stuff is RIGHT on target. Forward Slip To land seems hard to to in the Sim but in the plane its an Awesome manuever. Crosswinds int eh sim and nothing like Real life. Oh I could go on and on..... I was wondering is anybody knew of a thrid party Bendix/King KLN89b gps I could add on to FSX. I need to get better with using the one in My training plane. (99 172sp) Only weeks away from CheckRide! Wish me Luck! Gary
November 26, 201312 yr That SP looks very like the R that A2A released... though they stick with Garmin type GPS units... Good luck on your checkride! A Andrew Entwistle

November 27, 201312 yr Author Good luck and please continuento post on your progress. Are you planning on continuing on to your instrument rating? Yes, I am planning on getting the Instrument rating just at a slower rate. Allready spent more then I have getting to this point.
November 27, 201312 yr Yes, I am planning on getting the Instrument rating just at a slower rate. Allready spent more then I have getting to this point. Good idea, it'll make you a safer and sharper pilot. Use FS to your advantage and practice your holds and all the basics.i would plan and fly my lessons on FS before my real lessons. Less time and money than in the real one. I did that back when I was getting my instrument and breezed through it. Have fun! Reik Namreg
