We really have to start a pinned topic on this subject, because more will join, I'm sure, and of course it would be great to have a list, editable so that we can include new entries, available for anyone new to X-plane 10 to find a first general guide... It should focus on install options and configuration / optimization, add-on sources ( freeware mostly ), tweaking etc...

I'll see what I can do about it!

Meanwhile, in the FREEWARE Class, here are some suggestions...

To start, the Main developers Blog: http://developer.x-plane.com/  to find out what's going on behind the scenes....

SCENERY:

=========

- Murmur's post a few days ago, regarding photo scenery: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/429099-can-i-get-a-primer-on-what-to-install-want-to-fly-photoscenery/

  Also at SimHeaven non photo sceneries available - very good!!!

- This site ( there are other ... ), to find detailled freeware / payware sceneries available: http://www.xpscenery.net/

- Some good enhancements from here: http://isdg.com.au/scenery-add-ons/

- Alpilot's site ( MANDATORY ) : http://www.alpilotx.net/

- XPFR Site: www.xpfr.org ( scenery and aircraft )

AIRCRAFT:

=========-

- Many to choose from at x-plane.org and also flightsim.com - their libraries are filled with aircraft and scenery...

- XPFR

WEATHER:

=========

- The NOOA plugin - a weather injector for X-Plane 10: http://x-plane.joanpc.com/plugins/xpgfs-noaa-weather  and the required Python interface from here     http://www.xpluginsdk.org/python_interface.htm

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

Don't forget X-Aviation, the Saab 340 is definitely in the top 3 payware aircraft for XPX. Also, you absolutely need SkyMAXX from this site too ;)

the site is XPFR.org ;) .. if JComm is referring to the one I'm thinking!

Why can't we have a sticky post for this subject ?

No need to open several different topics about the same subject.

Not SkyMaxx, the NOAA plug-in become unusable with 10.25.  I had to disable it to have the wind behave normally again.

As to the OP:

Top paywares:

- FF 757-200

- FlyJSim 727 package

- Carenados: most all of them are good, much better than the FSX counterparts due in part by the rework in XP by Dan Klaue

- LES SAAB 340

- MU-2

- JRollon CRJ-200

Top freewares:

- PA18 Piper Cub

- Eclipse 550

- The top three from http://www.xpfr.org/?body=aero_accueil

Jcomm, do you experience this as well?

Though not a XP10 user, and being a high-and-fast tubeliner simmer, those, FF 757-200,  FlyJSim 727, and JRollon CRJ-200, lok to me as 'triggers' to start using XP. I would appreciate some user/simmer  comments  regarding the Boeings (757, 727).

Waiting for the 64-bit PSION Flightsim for ZX-Spectrum ////

The good thing about X-Plane is it doesn't require as many add-ons. I just grab the free HD Mesh V2 and a few freeware airports from XPScenery.net and I'm ready to go. Even the default C172, C90, Lancair Evolution and Baron in particular are very good. Carenado and others of course offer superior models.

I don't even have UrbanMaxx at the moment. I found that with the HD Mesh and the new built-in urban textures, cities already look built-up enough. It's a matter of preference. If you have a slower system so you can't nearly max out buildings and roads, it's still essential however.
