December 23, 201312 yr I thought the clouds and water were pretty damned good in OD but REX4 walk away with the prize! Still fiddling with it, loads to choose from. I admit I was sceptical at first but caved in and paid. (didn't get my $5 off mind) Well worth it. EDIT: I just remembered. There doesn't seem to be that intermittent reloading of water now. Is that something you sorted, or just a coincidence? The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA

Is that something you sorted, or just a coincidence? Don't worry, you'll get 5 bucks x 100 out of the 'eye candy pleasure factor'. I think that you are seeing that... If you take a cruise around islands of the Carib...you will also now notice that as the waves off shore head towards, let's say a bay...that the water as you get nearer, will start to calm down (as it would with real wave compression) and soon, you will have gently rolling water, to none. Great effect, via multiple water textures mapped and in play. I really appreciated that...for island hopping realism.
December 23, 201312 yr Does anyone else miss the fact that you cannot tell which textures sets you installed? I know in REX3 you could go back into the texture area and see what you had previously installed. December 23, 201312 yr Does anyone else miss the fact that you cannot tell which textures sets you installed? I know in REX3 you could go back into the texture area and see what you had previously installed. You can do that by creating as-easy-as-pie themes. Then...just hit up the theme you want in...and THAT,and what makes up that theme will be your guide. And fast? Well, you know....
December 23, 201312 yr Maybe I need to look again, but even in the theme creation, you can't tell which specific texture sets you installed. December 23, 201312 yr Maybe I need to look again, but even in the theme creation, you can't tell which specific texture sets you installed. You can, but it wasn't immediately intuitive to me how. If you select a theme, you'll see the textures you've got selected for that theme displayed graphically for each sub-category in the bottom half of the screen. If you click on that displayed texture, you'll see the actual texture set that theme has selected (and be offered the choice to modify or cancel). Scott
December 23, 201312 yr Just a question, now that I know the new REX textures will cost me about $30, for my existing REX+OD, will I have to pay for the new weather engine over and above this, and if so, do I delete all of the existing REX stuff and start over with REX4??.....Problem is, I have had sooooo many patches and upgrades I am not sure I know how to delete everything, unless of course, the new one auto-deletes whatever not needed.. PS, talking now only about FSX, will go to LM later this year............thanks to all those doing the expore work......B42L8
December 23, 201312 yr If you use REX weather, leave REX+OD alone. I'm not sure, but I think they may be bringing out a standalone weather engine. But don't quote me. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
December 23, 201312 yr Yes, I read that that was coming "shortly", and I wondered if that is another purchase for the real weather type.............I suspect it will be as they talked about a completely new platform, etc...........so if I buy the new textures and keep the old, how does my existing REX+OD know which to use??...............B42L8
December 23, 201312 yr Your REX anything doesn't use the textures, it provides them. It/they simply replace FSXs textures. Keep up! The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
December 24, 201312 yr Your REX anything doesn't use the textures, it provides them. It/they simply replace FSXs textures. Keep up! Er... sure it does. REX E + OD is a wx engine as well as textures, and REX E's wx engine works fine with the new ones. so if I buy the new textures and keep the old, how does my existing REX+OD know which to use? The weather engine (whether it's REX or something else) doesn't need to "know" anything. It uses whatever's loaded. So if you've loaded using REX4 and then start REX-E's wx engine (but don't load new textures) it'll use those. Scott

Opus man myself. To me REX has only ever been a texture provider. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
