January 30, 201412 yr Hi Scott...knew the "quicksand" would probably draw ire/comment..... might explain that I am new to REX products....seems to me it would be much easier to make what ever state you have when you install REX be your dafault that you could always easily go back to if you liked while leaving REX available, instead of having to do what apperas to be a complete reinstall of your original textures, which I assume wipes out all the REX ......and that the questions I asked could have been explained in the manual....perhaps that is asking too much....the product seem very nice...I just didn't want to get too far into it without knowing exactly what is was doing to my sim and the REX program itself
January 30, 201412 yr No ire, just confusion. The state you have when you install REX4 is whatever state your system was in at install time. There can be only one set of active textures in FSX. You do a backup before replacing default textures with any REX textures so that your original FSX textures are preserved somewhere. Once you load a set of REX textures (which basically moves them into the folder replacing equivalent FSX ones) REX has no way of getting your FSX textures back without a restore, but you can switch between all the available REX textures any time you like. The only reason you'd need to do a restore is to put default FSX textures back in place. Yes, that wipes REX textures from the active folder, but it doesn't wipe out REX textures. Any time you want, you can still load available REX textures, but again... once you do that, the only way back to default FSX textures is another restore. Basically, REX can move its own sets in and out at will, but it cannot do the same for FSX defaults other than through the backup/restore mechanism. Scott
January 31, 201412 yr Hi Scott...thanks for this thorough explanation ...feel like I can explore REX4 with full knowledge of how it works....
August 30, 201411 yr How do you install REX4 into P3D and FSX? I only get the modify, repair or uninstall when trying to install into FSX after first installing into P3D?
August 31, 201411 yr REX4 Texture Direct has one version for both sims, so it is only installed once. It has a setting in it's UI which directs the copying of the REX textures to the specific sim. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5379637/REX.jpg
October 12, 201411 yr guess this thread is getting outdated and people are happy with rex 4, good. I bought it yesterday and i think im doing something wrong cause im not that impressed yet. Im wondering with the very very fast texture install if everything goes well. Its like under 10 seconds to install a theme. Im guessing its in the name textures direct it loads texture into fsx as i fly? Im wondering if i need to delete the rex 3 textures which i didnt and if rex3 textures are blending in with rex 4 textures. I read here you dont need to uninstall rex 3 and thats fine but im still wondering if my rex 3 textures are messing with the rex 4. I have the wx engine from rex 3 ticked and when i start fsx from rex 4, rex 4 closes and rex essential starts. Do i need to click fly now in rex 3 for the wx engine to come alive with rex 4 textures? I have a screenshot of clouds that makes me feel a bit odd and gives me a feeling rex 3 are blending in with rex 4 but i dont know how to post a screenshot. I cant log in to rex support forum since yesterday when i installed rex4 so i ask here. Some of the screens earlier in this thread are looking awsome but thats with p3dv2 but still.
October 14, 201411 yr just wanted to pop in and say im very happy with rex 4. I did things wrong, settings etc but i can only recomend this now.
October 14, 201411 yr Its like under 10 seconds to install a theme. If P3d is installed on an SSD, it doesn't even take that long. But if you look at the REX 4 TD theme install log file, it doesn't really copy that many files.

Im guessing its in the name textures direct it loads texture into fsx as i fly? It definitely loads them in before you go anywhere. You can test this by the fact that if you have shut REX4 off you still get all the new textures. I don't know the inner workings of 3.x vs. 4 but 3 seemed to do a lot of decompressing of whatever sets you wanted, plus if you had custom colorized water it had to deal with that. I think 4 must just have a large set of static textures that can be quickly copied over once you generate a theme. I thought something was wrong as well when I first tried it but the changes in the water were very obvious to me that it had indeed copied new textures over. October 15, 201411 yr The textures alone in REX4 Texture Direct are utilizing new texture enhancements that has never been done. Which enhancements would this be, please? Sascha Rieger | EVO Developer What is EVO • How to get Evo 2016 • FS9 Evolution Forum
November 10, 201411 yr I have tried to install rex4 texture direct, but I got this problem, maybe you can help me. I can't select different destination :-( Regards Capt. Frank L. Rose
November 10, 201411 yr Any news regarding the plastic water surface and the strange horizontal clouds in REX4 ? Michael Michael Moe
November 10, 201411 yr I was hoping that the REX updates for the P3D water would have been available by now, but presumably they are still being tested, or maybe improved even further? Either way, it would be nice to get an update, Tim  Christopher Low AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU / 64GB DDR5-6000 RAM / 12GB Nvidia RTX 4070 Super GPU / Gigabyte X870E Aorus Elite Wifi 7 / 1+2TB Samsung Evo Plus M2 Nvme UK2000 Beta Tester
