Giving a fair view to both weather injectors Opus/Active Sky Next

Featured Replies

Yes. That is exactly what we mean.

Just wanted to be sure thanks.

Now another question. How is it eliminated? It's pretty straight forward why it happens, the weather is updating thus the cloud position/type is updating and changing. But how would a weather injector solve this? Would they somehow slow the rate of updating or change the number of clouds being updated and do it it more then one go so its more subtle?

I'm just trying to understand because it would seem the problem would lie in fsx code.

Thanks Lee

Exactly right. And, I have no idea technically what ASN does to solve it other than to say that I think they bypass the FSX weather engine itself (almost?) completely. So, they are in (almost?) complete control of what the weather is doing, where clouds are placed, where it's raining, etc.

Lee - essentially we draw the second set before we remove the first so you have a smooth transition.

To the poster who wants screenshots -

The strength of ASN cannot be seem in a screen capture - a video maybe. The smooth transitions, the turbulence and other features are what people are talking about. Whether you use AS2012 clouds or REX or FEX makes no difference. A screenie just shows pretty clouds and colors which are more a function of the graphics used than ASN. Accurate depiction, accurate temps, accurate winds and turbulence - can't get that on a screenie.

he whole purpose of the 7 day FREE trial is for YOU to make up YOUR mind - and please share your thoughts both pro and con - there are always those who need assurance to even take a free trial.

Thanks for the explanation Vic.

I'll give the trial a go, I'm fairly certain no harm will find me from it lol

The free trial sounds good. I hope there is an uninstall that completely removes, only, the files that are installed.

Not really, when I uninstalled the demo, it left the *.dll files in the  ?ASN folder in the fsx dir. I will be installing the full version in a couple of days, so I am not too concerned.

Cannot remember if the DLL.xml is cleaned up after either.

So Vic, you're part of the development team? I've never seen a beta tester take possession of a product before...

I always use a program like Revo Uninstaller when uninstalling. It gets rid of everything left behind.

ASN is amazing. I've used ASA, ASE, OPUS, FS Global and I must say ASN is the champ at the moment. I did a flight out of KATL to KMCO during rainy conditions and did not see a thing until about 16,000 feet. Most satisfying was the fact I had perfect VFR over the top and could not see the ground after breaking through.....awesome!

Sounds you had FSX running during uninstallation? This should not happen. ASN removes itself completely as tested countless times during beta. If not, please contact support.

LOL! I was saying the same thing in the beta forum. I've been a beta tester for HiFi for a long time and feel like I've invested a lot of my time and effort. This is one of the few releases where I've seen beta testers pitching to this degree in on support questions.

The entire team, Damian, Kostas & Chris as developers and the beta team - we work together well and have a great sense of pride in this product. And it's just going to get better................

I use OPUS for cameras and DHM, REX essentials for textures and ASN for weather.  No more cloud popping and extreme wind shifts at high altitudes! Sim heaven! B)

I need and use all three as each one has its strengths and weaknesses.  ( I see no reason to upgrade to REX4).

( I see no reason to upgrade to REX4)

------------------------------------------------------

"Then, you are missing out on most advanced yet, water animations and their graphics as well as lightning action, treatment, and aural upgrade, that make P3D's water attempt, look like FS9.  If persons think that the weather injector, ASN is a huge technical leap frog (of which I personally, do)..then REX4's handling of FSX water body and lightning animation is of a such like, leap frog. I own ASN, I own REX4. My comparison is based on having user knowledge of both.

Spending what amounts to $16.00 for the each of these components of REX4  (after seeing what it does for FSX and the technical advancement of such) is in the opinion of this purchaser, most reasonable compensation.  Those  two 'features' of REX4 advances FSX as output, and not merely eye-candy. It scales up real life mimicking and what we call 'virtual reality'.  Seriously, you are missing out huge..but will never know, unless you take the leap, and purchase. This can not be conveyed in still-shot screen grabs, or bandwidth constraints of uploaded video and/or its recording quality. This must be seen live, upon the user's own system and its monitor.  What I have done, is marry the best of REX E, and REX4. You can do that. I have a most favorite REX-E cloud set running alongside value added features of the REX4 injection.  What I have in combo..is just beautiful...and I now truly have less incentive if ever, to carry over to P3D for such improvements (?!?) as water and other texture graphics.  I could now stay with FSX (post REX4 water and lightning animation treatment) indefinitely. An absolutely user-true statement.

Post Edit:  Don't delete REX E. No need to.  I suggest this...rerun your favorite theme and or selections in REX E. Then fire up REX4, and see what each injection element (you can...) is...its description, and whether you want it or not. That element will overwrite (for instance, if you like your REX E clouds set..then you bypass anything to do with clouds in the REX4 injector.  You move on...and there's lots. Same for sky color, etc. What I did, was to leave my cloud and sky color as injected by REX E, but then added the fabulous, new water animation graphic treatment of my choice (I chose Cinematographic, and outstanding, takes your breath away as you climb out over the ocean) and added in the equally fabulous lightning renditions (I picked Twin Strike!)., and chose of the two triple thunder sound sets, set number 1.  Then, added in the upgraded airport property variances...and was done.  In my opinion, post REX4/FSX...it surpasses in the area of virtual reality, even the present incarnation of P3D.  So...keep both...treat REX4 (as I am...) as not a true stand-lone entity...but a generational leap forward, and support for REX E.  Yeppers!  The two of them on your system desktop will make you smile...let me tell ya ! :) So to end, I will always use REX as a two step dance. First, I run REX E...and then I allow REX4 to overwrite and inject whatever I want to see overwritten from the REX E injection. Easy as pie. One, Two,---------------FSX. ;)

Cheers,

Ses

I forgot to add, that I had ASN installed on a client laptop with shared FSX folders etc. I do not need to contact support though, as it did not turn out to be an issue, and will be installing the full version soon. Thanks anyway.

Cheers Marc, will have a look at that.

Now we are really getting somewhere, very helpful discussion now and good points on use of REX E & 4.

Will have to look into software that ensures complete removal as Marc suggested, even if the demo ASN uninstaller is supposed to remove all demo files.  Thanks for suggestion.

I am pushing my now older PC to it's limits for flight simming these days and I hope that if I add ASN and say REX4 I won't go over the top and suffer from terrible performance.
