  1. Finally, after all these years, a c-47 that is not only free but blows the payware version out of the water! Congrats on a fine job and thank you for all your hard work. It's a beauty. Lon Duncombe
  2. And there it is! Many thanks. I should have dug deeper
  3. Hi Guys: I just bought the PMDG 737 base package for P3D V3 and every time I try to activate it rejects the code I was given. I am assuming the activation code is the serial number found just below the order. The other weird thing is that, although the order appears in my download page I never received a confirmation email. I sent off a ticket and am just assuming they have some sort of backlog at HQ. Or am I doing something incorrectly? Thanks for your help. Lon Duncombe
  4. I just fly p3d now. I fly the A2A Cessna 182, Realair Turbo Duke, both with the GTN 650, the magnificent Q400 PRO edition, oh, and also the Aerowinx 747 with p3d scenery. That's it. I find these aircraft challenging and systems deep enough to keep me happy. I may get the PMDG V2 when it comes out, depending on price, and eventually will rebuy the PMDG 737 (I have the FSX version) when the Canadian dollar strengthens. The triple 7 is too pricey for my blood :( Hats off to Majestic for making the Q400 available in both FSX and P3D for one price. It is probably my favourite single aircraft bar none.
  5. Rien de rien, je ne regrette rien!
  6. The video above doesn't really do it justice. Since buying Aerowinx PSX a year ago I rarely fly anything else. I run it on 3 27' monitors and one 40" 4K at 72 fps with FSX providing the visuals. I am able to expand the visuals over all 4 monitors with no loss of detail running 3 separate networked instances of the program. The experience is totally immersive in a way that FSX can never be. Every single breaker of the 747 is present and operative, and there are failure option combinations that no other simulation has. ATC is accurately modelled, along with a functioning copilot. A recent Mutley's Hangar review explains this much better than I could. The way I see it, I have saved a ton of money by not bothering to buy, indeed not being interested in, the latest & greatest FSX/P#D add ons. Aerowinx will keep me busy for years to come
  7. The Majestic q400 PRO for superb graphics, high FPS and system fidelity (you can even pop the breakers which I have done on occasion). In its class (twin prop or jet) it blows everything else out of the water, PMDG included (and PMDG aircraft are excellent, I own them all). I have never tired of it. The FSlabs Concorde for steam gauge era complexity and system fidelity (graphics are a bit dated). Seasoned pilots who qualified for training spent months mastering this baby, and you will too. Nothing compares to the thrill of flying at 60,000 feet, Mach 2.2 once you have learned how to handle this very complex, demanding aircraft. Lon Duncombe
  8. Try flying Majestic's wonderful q400, fully loaded, from Kathmandu to Paro, with the Paro addon. Using ASN, Kathmandu is often fogged in and the approach to Paro is hairy regardless of the weather. Never a dull moment
  9. I have a 40" LG 4K monitor I picked up last fall for about $800 CDN. I'm running a 4790K with a 780 GTX in 4K mode and frame rates are tolerable. What advantage would a 34" curved screen have, other than perhaps improved FPS ? Lon Duncombe
  10. Or for something completely different try the Aerowinx 747 (PSX). It's a standalone with unbelievable systems depth, ATC, ACARS, its own weather system and world modelling. It runs on Java and is OS independent (I have it running simultaneously on my mac and PC) and fires up in about 10 seconds. Never crashes. If you're into eye candy this one is not for you. Also very expensive, flight schools use it, but if you want the ultimate in 747 training, take a look. Lon Duncombe
  11. Be careful about Asus MOBOs. Some of them have a defective bios clock. I know - I have a Z97 deluxe with a defective clock. In which case if you are using PMDG add ons (737 & 777) they will malfunction. PMDG does not recommend Asus MOBOs. Asus has been working on finding a fix but to my knowledge have been unable to do so. Lon Duncombe
  12. The same thing happened to me - I had 3 monitors and one went dead. Replaced them with a 40" 4K monitor running at 2440 x 1600 and I would never go back. I can sit close to the monitor, very immersive, and get better fps than I had with the old ones. (I'm running a i7-4970K @ 4.5 with a gtx 780) Lon Duncombe BTW, cost of the LG 4k 40" was only $700.
  13. I picked up an LG 40" 4KUHD for $700 Cdn. I'm running FSX DX10 at 2560 X 1440 with good frame rates. Transformational. For me it's a whole new sim.
  14. Asus Motherboards are prone to the dreaded bios clock freeze and PMDG don't recommend them. the NGX and 777 go all wonky. I know. I have one. Asus can't seem to find the problem. Lon David
  15. I posted the pics over at Facebook - FSX Tweaking and Tuning. Memory usage dropped from 2.1 gigs at ORBX YBCS to 1.1 gigs over the Phillipines. Using all the add ons - 737 NGX, ASN, REX etc.
  16. Hey guys,I've tried to copy my google drive url to this reply but can't seem to. It will copy to notepad without a problem. Any suggestions?
  17. I'll be posting screenshots as soon as I can squeeze in a flight between work. I have no idea how they do it, but words may be eaten B)
  18. I would be glad to provide screen shots. It recovers unused memory in FSX, at least for me, without question. OOMs are a thing of the past. How, I have no idea. It also trashes Window's voice recognition software so that's a big downside for those of us with VOXATC FS2Crew etc.
  19. Did anyone read my earlier post of today?? System mechanic definitely works. (I think the title was SYSTEM Mechanic FSX or something like that. Just beware that it trashes Window's voice recognition software, which means bye bye VOIXATC, Fly2Crew etc. Lon Duncombe
  20. Hey gents: I bought System Mechanic many moons ago and promptly dumped it due to its proclivity for trashing window's voice recognition software. For those of us with VOXATC, FS2Crew etc. a full reinstall of Windows and FSX was required to repair System Mechanic's damage. HOWEVER......... I no longer use Voice Recognition software with FSX (or anything else for that matter). Too many instances of my better half staring at me strangely as I muttered to myself in my monitor-illuminated man cave. I recently therefore re-installed System Mechanic , not for FSX, but to handle all the crud and accumulated detritus that comes to any computer as time goes bye. AND..... I noticed the new System Mechanic has a memory scavenging module that supposedly "rescues" unused memory locked in software. I know, I know, there is no method of freeing unused memory from FSX, it just can't be done. Try, for example flying from Orbx PAJN to Orbx YBCS in the 777 PMDG using REX textures, ASN, Orbx Global, Orbx Vector, PNW and OZ Orbx scenery installed. I am doing so now. I checked my memory usage over Papua New Guineau, should be around 2.6, 2.7 gigs AND IT IS... 1.5 gigs! What is even stranger, hit escape, go back in after a few minutes and memory usage reads .4 gigs and gradually builds back to 1.5. Landing in YBCS memory used will be back to about 2.1 gigs, approximately where it was departing PAJN. I have replicated this several times on different routes. I find it hard to believe. So, in short it appears that, unless FSX has somehow magically evolved on my PC alone, System Mechanic should pretty well eliminate OOMS in FSX. Just be aware, however, that System Mechanic will do other things to your PC as well, and if you ever want to run voice recognition software, stay far away. Lon Duncombe
  21. I have a similar problem (in P3D). I start with the default F22 at Langley, engines running. I switch to the Lear, shut everything off and wait for the engines to spool down. I recheck that every switch is off, do a visual inspection to ensure the turbines have stopped and save the flight. When I load it either one or both engines are running (with batteries off). Occasionally it is cold and dark but then the engines will spool up but not light (after which the battery goes dead. This should not be that complicated. I have build 1.1 Lon Duncombe
  22. Is there a dedicated forum for the P3D version of the iFly 737? The Flight 1 Tech site appears not to have one and I can't register in the FSX forum. I have ASN, have done all the FSUIPC iFly and ASN updates but the weather radar will not work :( Any help would be appreciated. Thanx. Lon Duncombe
  23. I have a 2700k running at 4.9 Ghz and a Corsair h60 cooler. Temperature never breaks 70, usually around 64 C., voltage around 1.44. I get great FSX performance, no stutters. I've had it for almost 2 years, see no reason to upgrade and will run this sucker until it implodes, hopefully not for a while
  24. Actually APU="Automatic Pilot Unload". Three mistakes & he's ejected out the door!
