What's your WORST Flightsim Payware of 2013?

777 worldliner for x-plane 10...

the sounds are way way overdone.. flap motors and apu sounds like they are inside the cockpit.. It does not derate properly, many systems are kind of sort of simulated and do not work like the real thing.Nose gear light does not turn with the nosegear. Wish I could get my 80 dollars back....

I always thought of that one as an 'okay' simulation of the 777 that was decent and got the job done, went ahead and got their 300ER as well when that came out, but yes there are a few strange systems bugs and anomalies present particularly around the FMC which seem the manifest themselves. After getting the PMDG 777 and doing a few comparison flights between the two I find that systems accuracy is fairly off on the FF one.

One thing I will say though is that it DID make my transition to the PMDG a lot easier as I was already familiar with majority of the normal procedures. Unfortunately because of the inaccuracies in the FF model I had to kind of 'unlearn' some of my procedures I trained myself to do in order to properly fly the PMDG 777, also gained a greater understanding of some of the procedures and learned more via the PMDG 777.

Their 757 is a big improvement on the 777 and it shows that they've learned a lot on the way. But I still can't help feel that there are some niggling bugs in the 757 again around FMC functions, VNAV managed descents etc...but trying to raise these points over on their forum at the ORG will give you the usual 'read the manual' response from one their regular support guys (even though I I do read through them).

Overall I'd say I'm not completely unsatisfied with their 777, it does what it does, just the price could have been less for what it is...

I got 2...

Firstly, Ground Services X. I've heard so much praise about this so I bought it, with very high expectations. Sure, the animations are superb and my airports are much more alive, but I'm not sure some animations is worth 30USD. I had expected more communication with ground staff etc. The only lines of spoken dialougue sounds like it is generated by a speach engine - which it most likely is. It's not directy bad, but I'm not sure it's worth the money.

Secondly, the JustFlight Dc-6. The visuals are good, but it suffers from some serious and obvious bugs that I can't understand the creators missed. The original product is seriously a piece of junk - it can hardly be flown at all. However, with some simple modifications on my side it's a completely new aircraft. The price was 25 euro. In it's current state, easily worth it for such a nice vintage aircraft. However, with all those bugs, no way!

Nose gear light does not turn with the nosegear.

That would be because the real one doesn't do that either...

The list is too long to mention, so instead of being annoyed and bashing anyone in particular I'm just using freeware and have stopped purchasing any payware. Seems certain payware developers are more interested in insulting customers and creating bloatware and copy protection crap that ruins the joy of the hobby than creating quality addons. And those few quality developers I still care to support haven't moved on to Prepar3D, so my cash is piling up...

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

In my case, the term 'worst' payware would be misleading, and would denigrate the product unjustly. I'd rather say the payware I am least happy with for now - and that would be Orbx Vector. The reason - well, various reasons, including the mesh controversy, which I'm not going to reopen. However, I am obliged to provide a reason, and thats the main one. Plus the roads look awful in places. Of course its early days and Orbx has stated that it will be improved, so maybe by the end of 2014, it will have become my favourite software. I just wish I'd left it till then and bought something else in the meantime.

On the flip side, I bought a stack of Orbx regions and airports in their Christmas sale, which I know will be first class once I install them - I'm waiting for the P3D installers to be released. Which brings me to the best add-on this year - P3D Version 2 !

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

Two for me:

The first is the First Class Simulations Lancaster as under Windows 8 the fuel usage goes from one wing only and outside tank to in, you only have to fly it for 5 mins before staring to have to put in some bank. Contacted support and after an initial few back and forth have been ignored since, also offered to test and debug for them.

The second is the Razbam A-6 Intruder as despite a number of people posting on their support forums and also me posting up on their Facebook page they still haven't posted up the manual on their website, the link just 404s.

I luckily didn't buy the worst one nor any bad ones. I didn't buy many add ons anyway in 2013 and the ones I did buy were all winners (FTX Global, A2A C172, can't remember buying anything else, really…!). There is at least one add-on which I was hoping to buy but which was a big disappointment so I didn't get it. And since this topic is about the worst add-ons you actually own, I won't post which one that was.  ^_^

Nothing springs to mind but if I did regret buying a package I wouldn't blame the software. I would blame myself for not researching it sufficiently before parting with my cash.

Indeed, and sufficient research includes reading what other users think. As long as people state their reason for not liking a product threads like this one can be very useful. And yeah, I agree that you shouldn't put the blame on the developer when you make a purchase you later regret.

In all seriousness, the one purchase that I regret the most would be Traffic 360 from Just Flight.

Ditto that, I've just replaced with UT2 but I did stick with it for many years.  The AI looked a bit crude and the interface a bit limited.  Time for a change.  Some others best not to mention but are sitting on the shelf in a holding pattern as my son might enjoy them one day.

Hi Rolf,

Exactly. We have such a valuable resource with AvSim there really isn't any excuse for bad purchases. Well not by the masses anyway. I suppose we should be grateful to those who buy and then report their views on here. if they kept silent it wouldn't help anyone.

But I've never been an impulse buyer. Even now I'm still wondering if the Aerosoft Balearics package is worth the money. At over £40 it's expensive for an airport package even though it includes 3 popular destinations. It's over 4 years old and I just wonder if more modern scenery design tools would make a better job of it.

But if I bought it and later regretted my purchase I would blame myself and no-one else.

Amen to that. As others said, I investigate my purchases before I make them but this was one of them that I bought just because of the reviews. It gave me lots of errors, when selecting a gate or service the appearing vehicles made my FPS drop 50% or more and with pushback I often ended up being dumped in some ditch with the towtruck behind my nosewheel crashed in the fuselage. (those who have been there know what I mean)

Also, the COUATL-engine acted very frustrating. Fact is, after removing all FSDreamteam stuff, COUATL and their AddOn Manager I didn't suffer any more CTD or stutters. I reinstalled AES with the 140 credits I bought over the last four years and wondered why I ever considered leaving it behind.

My list of great purchases over the last year is way longer though. With PFP X, FTX Global amongst others.

Absolutely. It's just a shame the user reviews section on Avsim is in such a sorry state. There's not a lot in it and everyone is super-positive about everything they write about. Reminds me of that one episode of The Simpsons where Homer is hired by some magazine to review restaurants.

I urge everyone who reads this to write more reviews. It doesn't need to be loads of text, just explain why you feel as you do towards the product, list the good stuff AND the bad stuff, and write a proper recommendation and clearly state to who you recommend it. Even an overly praised product like the PMDG NGX would be a complete waste of money to some people. Be critical but fair and don't just review the add-ons you liked but also the ones you felt was a waste of money, because those reviews are often more useful to others than the super-positive ones.

Also it doesn't hurt to have more than one review of any particular add-on. Quite the opposite actually so don't let the fact that someone else was first stop you.

I concur with this entirely. We have been thinking about removing this feature because it is so under utilized. It could, in fact, be one of the most invaluable tools for the community. I encourage everyone write a review of a product of interest to them and which they own. That way, users who have an interest in the product can find those reviews and impressions quickly and without having to do extensive forum searching for product performance.

Hmm...while i wouldn't under any circumstances call this product "the worst" perhaps my most disappointing purchase was PFPX.  It doesn't do anything for me that Flight Sim Commander isn't capable of doing and in a much simpler way.  When i format my machine again i don't think i'll reinstall it.
