1,000 times better than default ATC? ... maybe, but if that's true there are products out there which are better and more importantly they are actively supported by their developers.

IMO (as a RW pilot, RW ATC licence holder and a RW ATC simulator developer) there is noting 'Pro' about ProATC. Its better as a flight planning tool than an ATC simulation add-on and there are enough of them on the market, thus far it cant even speak/say airline call-signs ... how basic is that!!

Save your money, spend it on something that has a proven track record and is supported.

Don't get too drawn into 'I must fly a SID or STAR', in the real world there not used every time, there are many other factors determining when/if SID's & STAR's can be used. Yes its nice to fly the NGX in a SID and use the CDU/FMC to control the aircraft like a real pilot but this doesn't always happen and in many cases there not the most expeditious routings that pilots prefer fly to save time and fuel ... bit of a 'can of worms' this subject but at the end of the day its what you the end user wants to do.

If you want a budget ATC solution try Radar Contact, it works well, if you have a few $/£ available try VOXATC, its the only ATC simulation solution where you talk as you would in the real world, what it does VERY well is add to the cockpit workload just as in real life. It works well and there is a demo 'try before buy' version, it also injects its own traffic (from your add-on traffic program) AND controls it.

There isn't a 100% realistic Flight Simulation ATC solution available and because its such a complicated subject matter I doubt we will ever see one, however there are solutions, there not all perfect and they all have strengths and weaknesses, just go careful where you spend your $/£'s I don't think ProATC is ready yet, I hope it gets there but its got a long ... long way to go and the developers have got some bridges to build with their customers for 'lack of support' (I know the main man has been ill and I hope he's well on the mend)

Good luck with what ever ATC solution you get ... but most of all enjoy it!

Yes, since nearly a year now an update is promised.

"Pro"ATC is currently full of bugs without any support from the developer.

So, until the next version of ProATC is isn't out, I would highly recommend to NOT invest into this software.

Even then I would wait several month and see how development and support will go on.

I have PATC on my computer and used it extensively. I have now purchased VOX ATC and have been using it for about a month now with routes from Flightaware or Simroutes which I rebuild in my trusty FsBuild, to export to my aircraft FMCs. It assigns SIDS and STARS, the procedure and terminology is very realistic and if you are really busy in the cockpit at any time, you can hand the coms over to the FO, which also cut's down on voice interaction by you, if this side doesn't appeal to you.

This is my most realistic (ATC) flight experience so far and until something better comes along, VOX is my choice. (I have used FSX-ATC, RC4, PFE and PATC)

Of all of the available ATC programs for FSX, VOX is the only one that is still being updated. Granted, the updates for VOX don't happen regularly but the developer is still active and will respond to emails.

So since I am using UT2 it would control all those  planes on the ground and in the air?

Yes, but you will not see many in the air. That is one of Vox ATC drawbacks, you will see ai on the ground, but once you take off, you might see some follow you, and that is it.

I agree with Rick though, the terminology is the most realistic of all the ATC addons.

With the new PATC patch supposed to be released this month, it will be interesting to see if it has lifted it's game.

I guess that's why I have just kept using RC4. If there was a newer program that would control everything and give you sids/stars or whatever that would be the ultimate program. Maybe this program will do that at some point which would be awesome.

Actually, VOX does all of those things. It's just a little funky in the way it generates enroute traffic.

So it just deletes the UT2 traffic enroute or what exactly does it do with the traffic?

On the ground the traffic is fine. Once airborne, it generates traffic behind you mostly. You will occasionally see enroute traffic but not as much as with RC4 or PFE. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the way VOX works.

The process is that it looks at the traffic at the departure an destination airfields and then populates your route with a selection of those types and liveries. If either or both of those airfields are small with few schedules, you'll get a limited choice, but the quantity is determined by the option selection for the number of AI.

The support forum for ProATC is here:

Good luck getting help from the developer though.

So after reading the almost unanimously negative opinions in the thread you still went ahead and bought the product.

Good luck with it, you are now in the same situation as all the others that bought this unsupported buggy product,  you now have to live with totally unrealistic ATC procedures that may never be fixed.

For a lot less money you could have bought Radar Contact which is more realistic, works reliably and has a large community of users here at Avsim.

Oh well....
