January 2, 201412 yr I would love to buy a PMDG made C-17. It's replacing the C130 Hercules and does everything that the Herc can do, only faster. I witnessed the first ever public display of this aircraft at RAF Mildenhall and was wowed by it's performance. Please can you participate in the poll? I know that PMDG don't do military aircraft but this one does a hell of a lot of cargo work too. George T
January 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member I know that PMDG don't do military aircraft but this one does a hell of a lot of cargo work too. ...cargo work for the military. Therein lies the issue. The military is not very open to giving data about its assets, and Boeing won't be able to provide the necessary data because that's the nature of building things for the military. Also, it's the Globemaster III, and not 111 (the former being Roman numeral notation for "three," and the latter being Arabic numeral notation for "one hundred eleven"). EDIT: Wasn't meaning to be snarky. I would probably buy it if PMDG could make a reasonably-well modeled version of one. I just figured I'd point out the issues with getting data from our military. January 2, 201412 yr Not to dampen this thread, but it has been announced that Boeing will not be making any more of these for the US Military and the production line is essentially shutting down. However, I have read that Boeing is now proposing to make a commercial version of the aircraft available for cargo haulers but I cannot find reference to that particular piece. On the up side, this airplane will continue to fly for quite a while into the future. January 2, 201412 yr Doubtfull there will ever be a commercial version. MD considered it in the past but it never got past the drawing board. Foreign military sales (Saudi Arabia, Japan, India) could keep it going a few more years, but that's a big maybe. With no other successor planned for the US military this may or may not be the end for the C-17.
January 2, 201412 yr Commercial Member If I'm not mistaken, doesn't Qatar Airways have one? Seems they actually do... have never seen them, I Pass through OTBD all the time. Edit - just to clarify, Qatar airforce own 4 of them, not the airline They use the 777F, A330F and A310F Regards Rob Prest
January 2, 201412 yr Some of the Qatari C-17s are clad in Qatar Airways colors, but they are still military operated. Apparently the idea was to boost the image of the country and the airline, and the plane is primarily meant for peace operations - airshows, humanitarian support (disaster response) etc. --Peter Fabian
January 3, 201412 yr As much as I'd dearly love to see a C-17 done by PMDG, I can't see it happening. The Hercules, that's more possible but I still don't think PMDG will go down that road for the foreseeable future - if ever. Matthew Bellette
January 4, 201412 yr It's replacing the C130 Hercules and does everything that the Herc can do, only faster. I'm sorry but you really must not know what the C-130 is capable of....the C-17 is not replacing EVERYTHING the herk does. Nor is it replacing MOST of what the herk does. The herk has been and still is the most versatile transport aircraft in the world. January 4, 201412 yr Oh dear, why is it that a simple enquiry for a possible granted request, brings up so much criticism? Dave Taylor
January 4, 201412 yr Would love any dedicated PMDG ramp equipped cargo hauler like a C-17, C-5, AN-70, AN-124, AN-225, C-130, A400M..etc. However I fear those are too 'niche' or exotic, don't think PMDG would commit the resources for such aircraft. Oh well, its worth dreaming about eh? ^_^ The An-124 is fairly prolific, flies oversized civil and military cargo all over the world and there are even new versions with western avionics and EFIS. Of course the Cubs would likely win the world series before PMDG would ever consider somthing like that lol. An-124 offroading. Don't know if you would try this in your 777  "The knack of flying is learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." - Douglas Adams Tejon 'TJ' Stanley
January 4, 201412 yr Along with just about everyone else, I can think of a stack of aircraft I'd like to see PMDG do, and the wonderful C-17 certainly is one of them. The Il-76 is another. Maybe if I win the Euro lottery, I can pay for some private commissions from PMDG...and A2A too ! Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
January 4, 201412 yr The Virtavia C-17 is excellent if you want to get your hands on one. I have added the ISG Avionics pack as well which is great... FS9 Driver
January 6, 201412 yr This is on my wishlist simply becuase I'd love to have a four engine jet that can land in a sandbox...I'm sure it won't happen, but this plane would be an absolute blast to fly...
January 8, 201412 yr Please let PMDG get the B777 patch out first. They cant even seem to handle that properly and here we are polling for a C 17?
