February 14, 201412 yr That may very well have been my post on Carenado with their TBM850 vs the Wilco TBM850. Again just think if Carenado never existed because they are too mid level sim and not like PMDG we would be stuck with the Wilco model only! Yes, it was your post. I agree with you, if it weren't for Carenado, the Wilco model would probably be the only TBM 850.
February 14, 201412 yr I love all my Carenados. Not PMDG quality, but still very good. Anyone got the Nado TBM850? i9 RTX 4090 64gb ram
February 14, 201412 yr I have it, considering its a G1000 its pretty smooth and for Carenado its pretty feature intensive, I believe its THE most feature intensive Carenado product they have ever released. I have the Carenado TBM850, its very well modeled in terms of the FDE, Visuals (no surprise there) and even in the systems depth of the G1000. Given again its not going to be PMDG level systems simulation but it is THE most feature intensive Carenado product I have seen yet and that includes many Carenado products that I own (check "My Simulator" on my profile to the left of this post for more details).
February 14, 201412 yr I've said it before on my blog, but IMO there is a real problem with reviews in our hobby (and anyone thinks I'm pointing the finger at anyone in particular, I won't pretend that I'm not part of it). I'm sure the problem isn't that review sites are telling reviewers to give products good reviews or anything, I just think there's a bias against negative reviews. Reviewers don't want to anger devs or risk their position as a reviewer (because of potential fallout regardless of the rules). Furthermore, I believe reviewers that don't like a product avoid reviewing said product at all, which leaves reviewing to only those that do like the product. Given the relatively small and insular nature of this hobby, I doubt this will change on larger sites. But I also believe that reviews by individual simmers with nothing at stake, such as Q_flyer's here, are a positive force and help counterbalance the endless stream of neutral to positive reviews. you make excellent points. February 14, 201412 yr Q-Flyer, I think I know how this happened....don't beat yourself up too bad. There's a long list of very solid aircraft developers who keep upping their quality. They strive to surpass their previous release with something new and more immersive than before. You were looking at the product page and saw how they were promoting their new plane. You thought surely they're going to up their game to compete with all these other great developers. Surely, they would, right? Say that a couple times, and you start to believe it. Unfortunately, Wilco isn't in this for reputation sake, or praise from their customers. They're in this for the new simmer crowd only. Curt Branch
February 14, 201412 yr Coincidentally, there's a review of the Wilco on the front page of another well known flightsim site posted just today. Hans Soule
February 14, 201412 yr To the OP - If you feel this strongly about this purchase, why don't you produce a comprehensive review of the product and post in the Member's Review section here on AVSIM. I'm sure it would be appreciated and beneficial to all our members. I would love to contribute meaningful reviews for AVSIM, and not just of the 'universally good' products either. However I literally could not bring myself to spend another 5 minutes in the Wilco TBM850. It's just too depressing a place to be. Highly emotive and subjective? ... You bet! .... but nonetheless true. I have been considering buying both the Wilco and Carenado products mostly because I have been a fan of this airframe design. My advice would be to buy the Carenado model - ok theirs doesn't have 'custom' system aspects like working FLCH either; but at least there more up front and honest about what their product is. If you are tempted to go for the Wilco product, my advice would be to take two of these:- .....and a box of matches, and to go into your garden, and burn them. It will be far more satisfying that passing money over to Won'tco Wilco.
February 15, 201412 yr Coincidentally, there's a review of the Wilco on the front page of another well known flightsim site posted just today. And strangely enough that reviewer came to a rather different conclusion than the OP.... It's also hard not to notice the rather large "Buy Now" links on the first and last page of that review that send the reader to that website's very own store.... I've said it before on my blog, but IMO there is a real problem with reviews in our hobby I'm of very much the same opinion. Nick
February 18, 201412 yr Just got the Carenado TBM 850.I think i'm satisfied with the product.Need more hours in it, before i say more. But it IS beautiful. i9 RTX 4090 64gb ram
February 18, 201412 yr I once did the review of the Wilco CRJ product. Initially it looked promising with the visuals and so on. But when I started to fly the aircraft I was really disappointed. It had all the problems this new release seems to have and apart from the negative review, it also seems that no effort was made to rectify the issues. I wrote a polite but firm review indicating that the product was unfinished and seriously overpriced and really just unflyable There is such a big gap in the market for serious commuter jets, but no-one seems to be able to fill it at this stage. There are some promising things in the pipeline from ES I believe though. One can hardly believe that yet another product like this has seen the light. Sad indeed! Kind regards.
