April 11, 201412 yr I'll try that thread. Thanks! This is the thread I follow: http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/forum/77-release-announcements/ I get a Tapatalk warning everytime a new post goes there, as well as an email. Works well. Will Reynolds Flight Sim Addict
April 11, 201412 yr LM is the best! They give us these patches with major major enhancement! Love it! Love it! Love it!. For me P3D is the new version of FSX and FSX lives on! All right.. thanks for the response about taking backup of those folders before I delete them. I now have to figure out what files I need to put back from my backup. The 2.1 update I did not have any issues like some had where they had to delete some folders or had to re-install P3D. 2.2 patch gave me some issue when I loaded old saved flights....but did not have issue when I created new flights but my FPS really has tanked. So I understand the need to delete old folders. and I will do that this weekend and try it out. Re install is not an option for me.. I cannot re-install all those addons. But I want to reiterate, how stocked I am about P3D and LM with what they are doing. OOM issue which was a major problem in 2.1 is gone... I am sure I would manage to bust that..but I am not going to complain about P3D on that front. Other features like cloud shadows and what not are totall bonus. When PMDG moves over, I can retire FSX. For now, I can still get my 777 Fix with my FSX. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

April 11, 201412 yr Sure wish my customers were that sympathetic when I screw up! If your intent is to delight your customers and in that process made a few boo boos, they would have a sympathetic view when you screw up while trying to delight them! Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
April 11, 201412 yr I did that for the Libraries, but then that link got moved. All the updates (downloads) are on the FTX Support Page http://fullterrain.com/support.html Rob, I have linked to your P3D setup, are you using any .cfg edits and nVidia Inspector any longer? \Robert Hamlich/
April 11, 201412 yr Please download and replace fsInsider.dll Thanks very much Gerald - outstanding support as is usual from FS++ Regards Rob Robin Harris
April 11, 201412 yr Rob, I have linked to your P3D setup, are you using any .cfg edits and nVidia Inspector any longer? NO ... not in any meaningful manner anyway (i.e.. visual or performance) - pretty much let P3DV2.2 do it all. I just updated my settings after a flight from PAYA to AK0 in the Twin Otter -- here they are: http://www.robainscough.com/Prepar3D_Settings_2.html It's a remote region so frame rates were pegged at 60 even at PAYA ... but lots of trees ... a few clouds. I must admit, I'm really liking ASN. I did however find what I believe to be an issue ... something I can finally replicated consistently (I saw it happening before but could never replicate, but now I can). I sent details to LM with supporting files/evidence of issue and instructions on how to replicate. It's a tricky one, because you have to have the sun close to the horizon, be facing the sun, and then have a cloud (in the distance) move between your view and the sun (partially block the sun and casting shadow on one's AC) ... as the cloud moves between one's view and the sun there will be a massive drop in frame rates (i.e from 60 fps to 20 fps) ... it can be just one and only one cloud, AutoGen settings completely irrelevant. It seems to be something to do with the cloud shadow casting distance and view position/direction. Cheers, Rob.

It seems to be something to do with the cloud shadow casting distance and view position/direction. Afaik LM is already aware of this problem and it indeed has to do with the very low position of the sun and the shadows created in that situation. This is why people also reported a huge drop in fps during dawn or dusk.
April 11, 201412 yr Afaik LM is already aware of this problem Oh ... ok, just talked to Wes recently ... maybe he thought I was reporting on something different. Oh well, all that work I did for something they already knew about ... ugh.
April 11, 201412 yr I thought adding Affinity Mask to 2.2 making use all four CPU cores, was helping my terrain loading, but doing some testing has shown me just how much... Same thing on my machine. Without the AffinityMask tweak I get blurries all the time. Particularly in ORBX regions with mountainous terrain. Even Beau Hollis from LM admitted that changing the AffinityMask might be a good idea and that they might change it in 2.3 as well. April 11, 201412 yr Same thing on my machine. That's good.. I'm glad someone else sees the same, or similar, results... It would be nice not to have the need to tweak at all, but I think given the vast array of system combinations, that some time spend with cfg lines that a proven to have an impact are worth exploring.
April 11, 201412 yr One thing I've noticed is when I set unlimited frames, my GPU usage shoots up to 99% and cpu usage reduces from 100% to about 80%. My GPU ram usage also doubles from 500MB to 1GB. It appears to run better unlimited by shifting some stuff to the Video card freeing up the CPU for Autogen etc. Weird hu. April 11, 201412 yr Its seems rotating clouds are back! Before I install REX 4 the rotating clouds where a non issue. There was some rotation but it was barely noticeable. ASN didn't change this. After the installation of ASN Cloud rotation was still a non-issue. But after the installation of REX and after using the whether tab under themes to create and install a texture set I immediately noticed the Clouds rotating like gears with the slightest head movement. Then when I reverted back to the default textures the Rotating Cloud issue was still there despite the removal of the REX textures. I sure looks to me that REX4 is the culprit here. The last thing I did last night was Re-install my Drivers and the Bad rotating is gone. I think the initial injection of cloud textures By REX4 does something that can only be reversed By a driver re-install. Now I am no expert and I am speculating here but it sure looks like REX4 is the culprit when it comes to the Clouds rotating like they are in a gear chain.
April 11, 201412 yr I found with Rex, some cloud themes will show more rotation than others... so some experiment is needed there to choose the right one. Also, with my mediocre graphics card, after reinstalling orbx/vector scenery, I got a performance hit and blurries in some areas (in seattle). I was able to get some frames and smoothness back by disabling trees and lights via ftx central (orbx). Now I'm back withe the default trees for now, which actually look quite good.... Hmmmm. Last thing. I had some elevation problems with some some airports which I was able to correct by adjusting one of the vector see wry area whose priority was what to low. So, some tweaking is needed for sure... but things are looking really good.
April 11, 201412 yr it sure looks like REX4 is the culprit No it not REX its the way the clouds orientate in P3Dv2. Do a search on the LM forum and you'll find lot of info there... as well as posts here. BTW some cloud types show rotation more... Stratus show it the most.
