April 10, 201412 yr Something else I stumbled on in 2.2 release, I seem to gain about 25% performance using Unlimited frame vs. Locked frames. I noticed that too. Thanks for the heads up on the .fxml file. I tried that and It does seem to make a difference to VAS. I really have every setting maxed out and all the boxes checked with the exception of aircraft labels. Even all the traffic sliders at 100% With all the demanding addons. In the windows tack manager I am seeing the Mem usage at 5.5gb at the point of OOM. Tomorrow I will add REX4 and hope the rotating clouds issue does not arise again. Not seeing rotating clouds in 2.2 with default cloud textures and ASN. I will also add my 400 or so WOAI packages for AI traffic. Flying in the same setting with all those addons I fully expect to get OOMs but at the 10 FPS I expect who cares. I like to work way down to my ideal setting and I am sure once I arrive at a point where the lowest I see is about 40 FPS I beat that I am miles away form an OOM. I am guessing 3.5GB in Task Manger. That's it then. I am to start playing with the multitude of tube liners I have. None of them are the NGX of the Milviz 737 but I Guarantee you all I will have more fun than I ever had with FSX  Where is the shader folder? ShaderHLSL? Do I delete the entire folder within P3D? PS: Yes, the OOM thingi is so so much better.... VAS usage is good so far. April 10, 201412 yr Commercial Member Thanks, I've removed all additional tweeks and P3D seems to be running great. I still get 'flickers' of lights in the distance -- annoying. Should I be using Nvidia Inspector (bioshock profile?) to minimize this aspect? I went the upgrade route. Initially had some issues but deleted the shaders folder... info I found at the P3D forums. Stuttering and low frame rates. Came here today.... saw the sticky post at the top of the threads by Fr. Bill. Deleted the 4 folders (watch your customization files).... rebooted the machine.... re ran the patch installer. BOOM! Looking great. Even bought the REX P3D license.... wow! It is very encouraging to see that P3D works very well as long as the installation is done correctly. I know I installed it incorrectly in the beginning, but I got good advice on this forum and things worked properly as they should. Hopefully more FSX users see that P3D is a platform to be embraced as it will carry this hobby into the future. REX AccuSeason Developer REX Simulations
April 10, 201412 yr Did you delete these directories before running a patched 2.2? %PROGRAMDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 %LOCALAPPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 %APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files Wouldn't that delete the scenery.cfg where all my addon scenery are? That would also delete all the DLL.xml etc.. Hmmmm That's why the first step is to make a backup of those files! Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
April 10, 201412 yr Well I have to say I will be putting a lot more time into P3D now... good to be back. I did a test flight from KIAH to KSAT with FTX, ASN and I purchased the ifly 737 since IMHO P3D is severly lacking a decent tubeliner The ifly definitely had an impact on performance... about 10 fps... but the simulation was still very smooth. I am not so obsessed with ironing out every hiccup, and it was plenty good for my 4770K and GTX 780 system. If anyone is curious BTW, the ifly 737 functions beautifully! Of course, no OOM, and the visuals looked fantastic. Must say ASN is easily the best weather engine I have ever used! Well done LM, 2.2 is a huge improvement! Phil Long
April 10, 201412 yr Wouldn't that delete the scenery.cfg where all my addon scenery are? That would also delete all the DLL.xml etc.. Hmmmm Yes it does... BUT that's why you save those folders somewhere else so you can copy back the files needed like the scenery.cfg etc... worked like a charm for me bro! i9 13900KF @ 5.5Ghz | MoBo MSI PRO Z690-A WiFi | Corsair Vengeance Black RGB RS 64gb DDR4 3200MHz | MSI GeForce RTX 5090 Vanguard SOC 32GB | MP33 Pro 1TB M.2-2280 NVME SSD for OS | Samsung 870 QVO 2.5" 4TB SSD SATA2 | Samsung 990 PRO 2TB | Corsair RM1000X 2021 1300W 80 Plus Gold PSU | Antec Dark Fleet DF700 Flux Gaming Case | Win 11 home | Samsung 65" 4K TV | G512 Keyboard | Razer Basilisk V2 Mouse | WinCtrl URSA MINOR 32 Throttle Metal / 32 PAC Metal | WinCtrl Ursa Minor Sidestick |Velocity One Rudder | MiniCockpit FCU and EFIS | WinCtrl MCDU | Stream Deck XL | Tobii Eye Tracker | Pimax Crystal Light | Doug
April 10, 201412 yr Just backup that particular folder then delete it. then reintroduce your previous files. But if nothing was really installed, then i would keep and use the originals. 2.2 is a huge stride forward. Im seeing big improvements. Breath of fresh air that LM is tackling this so aggresivley. Lots of work to go, but its very smooth, and performs well as long as you dont go crazy with it. P3D never looked so good and better than FSX is. Still fiddling around with settings for my hardware but even with aggressive settings, even if fps dips lower, its still smooth. Still some compatibility issues, but until devs catch up, this will be ongoing. We definitly need a new FSUIPC though. Had one CTD im guessing is incompatibility and or FSUIPC. Have some studders I havnt figured out yet. Bottom line.... If it wasnt for PMDG stalling to support P3D, it would be bye bye FSX. It needs to retire. Its old, and worn, and this is the way forward. Cant wait to ditch it. CYVR LSZH I7-14700k 64gb 6000Mhz DDR5 ASUS z690 ROG STRIX Gaming RTX 4080 Super,
April 10, 201412 yr Really cool to read all these reports. But my fear is when the PMDG 777 gets it's port to P3D. If they don't manage to make it run more efficiently, I think it would make any 32 bits simulator run close to OOM. Alexis Mefano
April 10, 201412 yr If they don't manage to make it run more efficiently, I think it would make any 32 bits simulator run close to OOM. IMHO, I believe with DX11 and P3DV2.2 (and it's SDK) they will be able to reduce the PMDG 777's VAS footprint considerably ... they have MANY more doors open now than they did in FSX ... heck some of their processing could in theory run outside of P3D's VAS entirely. Cheers, rob. If it wasnt for PMDG stalling to support P3D I doubt they're stalling, probably very busy figuring out all the stuff they can now do with the P3DV2.2 SDK and DX11.
April 10, 201412 yr Coming from someone who just did the same - - post a misleading post, or at best a very optimistic view based on one person's experience. How can you speak for everyone else like that without being misleading yourself? FYI, I HAVE to tweak it using NVIDIA Inspector or it's a jaggy mess, using 8x MSAA. I was referring to the some of the more sensationalist posts of the type:"Prepar3D v2.2 is broken!" "Prepar3D is a stuttering mess!" "P3D ate my hamster!" For those sitting on the fence it is not going to encourage them to make the jump. However with a little research there is a lot of useful info in this forum, some stickied, some not, which can solve most of the general "issues". For your AA problem I feel your pain, but thankfully during beta Rob A posted some NI settings which work well for me. http://robainscough.com/Prepar3D_Settings_2.html Give these a try and let us know how you fare.
April 10, 201412 yr I doubt they're stalling, probably very busy figuring out all the stuff they can now do with the P3DV2.2 SDK and DX11. For one, the external camera tail will now be a non-issue
April 10, 201412 yr But, I just really wonder if it's because of the extra headroom you have now(obviously that helps) in 2.2 w/ the corrections they've made or if it's just simply the fact that you don't have anything really "heavy" to use yet for an aircraft in this sim Well in V2.1 the heaviest VAS user I had (aircraft) was the QW Avro 146 (more than the P3D iFly 737 suprisingly). One had to be extremely careful where one flew and for how long, otherwise an OOM was a certainty. Yesterday I took the same plane on a long flight (longest I have flown in P3D to date), in V2.2, VAS usage over the flight was mininmal, a small fraction of what used to happen in V2.1. In V2.1 vegetation was the culprit; now that that is wel and truly fixed in V2.2, there is way enough overhead for some serious aircraft addons IMHO. Rob Robin Harris
April 10, 201412 yr I just completed a short hop in my A2A C-172 from KCCR to KSQL using ASN and it was an stunning flight ... weather depiction was spot on perfect and winds and turbulence marine layer at the coast ... I got say big congrats to the HiFi with ASN ... weather stayed true, no weird shifting of clouds ... take a bow HiFi, you've set the bar. Considering my settings and location (SF/BayArea), frame rates were exceptionally good ... especially with Orbx NCA and Vector 1.1 with all features enabled ... road traffic was spot on from side roads to freeways. The environment was just "alive" with activity from small GA taking off at KCCR to commercial aircraft lining up to land at KSFO. Even though it was a short flight, it felt ... dare I say it ... "so real" (of course I'm not really qualified to say such a thing not being a qualified active pilot and all). I think I got all my 2.2 release tweaks all sorted ... basically very minor message changes (no FFTF, no Affinity), even NI is minimal with no AA settings at all, no compatibility settings, just all Application Controlled. Think I have plenty to hold me over until 2.3. Cheers, Rob.
April 10, 201412 yr First and foremost, thanks to all the previous posters about the new v2.2...its much appreciated. I am sold for P3D and am jumping on board as soon as PMDG has released their "beauties". I looked into iFly and I dont like it. Not saying it aint any good, its just that I started with PMDG and I guess "first impressions last". Anyway, at this point, the vast majority who has already purchased P3D is flying GA aircraft...can this be? Did none of you fly complex commercial airliners that are very heavy on FPS? Do you not miss them or do you still have FSX installed to fly them? Junst pondering really, as I cant get enough of my 737 NGX and Vatsim/Ivao. Best regards, Rene

Cant wait to ditch it. O.k., o.k. o.k.! I had that same problem as well. Thanks to Rob I found all those folders but only deleted the Shader folders becasue I didn't want to reinstall all my add-ons. So maybe someone can give a little more information on how to do these steps: I delete the shader-files (not the folder itself). I back-up what files (Scenery.cfg, Preparr3d.cfg and ??? [what else is relevant for TrackIR/FSUIPC/Traffic/REX/ASN, etc]) I run the installer of the update .exe I copy which files back (or do I copy only parts of the backed-up files back to the "new" files?)? I would be great if this information could also be part of the sticky-post regarding the deletion of those four folders. Thanks for your help! P.S. 2.2 runs well on my system but I see stutters here and there and would like to know that I have the best possible 2.2 experience I can before I lower my settings.
